Is this a stupid question? The square eraser rather like a rubber thing that is used to remove glue that is unwanted gets gummy around the edges. How do you clean it or do you cut it away or what ? Large square, but once you use around each side. Useless. Advice please.
I don't know what you're supposed to do, but I tear off bits until it isn't gummy anymore. I may try using Ultra Clean or sandpaper or something just to see what happens...
I use a pair of scissors to trim it up. I have one new one that's still actually square...and one OLD one that keeps getting "reshaped". I'll use it till it is too small to hold!

Ditto that. Sometimes I actually snip a small piece off and use the clean side of that because it's a little easier than using the whole square.
DreamsInPink, I just took a photo for you! As you can see, I just cut corners etc off mine. I have some spare in packets, as one of our supermarkets had a pretty much complete clear out of stock after venturing into the craft market. These were reduced to literally pennies each, so I got half a dozen!
OMG I absolutely hate this thing, and you do have to trim it! Luckily I purchased two now discontinued adhesive erasers several years ago that are awesome. I don't know why, except for the fact they last forever so no repeat sales, they stopped making them. Plus gum doesn't stick to it and it's so fast 'n easy to erase adhesive, works like a pencil eraser, and never tears paper! Maybe someone can remember the name??? It's grey, rather thick in diameter, pencil shaped, and appropriately 2" long! Awesome product if you can find one someplace.
These are just so handy if you do artwork..cards included! I have had one since high school (l96 and it is still working great! When it gets all gummed up I just rub it in a circular motion on a self healing cutting mat that I use to protect my work desk and pull the sticky 'nobbly bits' off. Presto..good as new!!
Didn't find one for pennies (love those bargains), but Walmart has them for $2.09 plus free ship to store. That is easy for me. Hobby Lobby has Ad Tech ones. Haven't checked yet to see if in the store or on-line only. I was wishing last week I could get some glue off a card... so this is timely. Do hope I can make it work for me. Thanks again for letting us know about them.
Does it just work with the tape runners or does it work with liquid glues like Tombow Multi too?
Yes, they can be used for glue. I assume they work for tape runner removal also, but I'm not sure. I love mine!! I use Tombow Multi (green & white bottle) glue ALL THE TIME!!! This thing wipes away any excess that you have (let it dry first). I call it my booger eraser, because it looks like boogers smashed together to me. Sorry, I know that's gross.
I've used mine with DST, which is pretty similar to tape runner, with no problems. DreamsinPink, it just rubs off any glue that spreads where you don't want it, basically. It's funny, but I'm pretty sure it's the same substance that the soles of summer shoes used to be made from when I was a kid. Looks and feels exactly the same.
Thanks Brenda for the info about using it with Tombow Multi (green/white bottle). That was the glue I used last week. It "leaked" out over the edge of a die cut and although it dried clear, it still showed. Thought maybe I'd have to look for another glue, but sounds like the eraser might do the trick.
I saw the video Kristina Werner did on using the eraser with tape runner glue. Jennifer, that helped me visualize how it's used.
OT but related - the only glue I've found that doesn't show - or barely shows on a couple papers - is Ranger's Multi Medium Matte. If you swap the tip on the small bottle with one of the skinny metal tips that Jennifer McGuire shows in several videos, you can also apply the glue extremely thinly, or stick the tip under an edge of something to apply a tiny dot, minimizing dreaded glue leak.
They are adhesive pick-up erasers so they should lift any excess glue from your project. Wait for the glue to dry and then rub over it with this.I just pick off the excess glue from the corner afterwards. If it starts to get too gummy, then just snip the tiniest amount off the corner.

Thanks! Believe I have Ranger's Multi Medium Matte (the search is on...). Looked over Jennifer's posts and found the bottle you mentioned. Then where I could buy one as the ideas you listed would be useful. The Tombow glue itself is fine...it's me. I have fought with glues since starting card making... 30 years ago. Big area of frustration for me. Do like the Sakura Quickie Glue pen for small die cuts, but can't get locally. It was a larger, narrow frame I glued down last week. Thanks to all for your tips and suggestions!!! Between the glue ideas, new bottle cap and eraser, may conquer this yet. SCS's are the BEST! ~ Mary

I think I have these (or very similar - mine are a light green color) and I LOVE them. Mine were from EK Success.

Yes mine are grey but I think there were green ones too. I purchased mine from "cherry on top", if I remember correctly. I think mine were made by EK Success too. I wish they still made them. I think the two I have will be around after I pass, if I don't loose them I wonder what they're made of???

EK Success makes those types of erasers you described. You are correct that they last forever!
As far as the square eraser in the picture, I always cut these in half diagonally. This way there are 2 erasers and it's easier to grip. I trim the gunked up part with sharp scissors.
It's funny, but I'm pretty sure it's the same substance that the soles of summer shoes used to be made from when I was a kid. Looks and feels exactly the same.
OT: Crepe soles, exactly. Nowadays, cheap shoemakers use hard plastic which is just horrible.
So far, I've cleaned my eraser as I go, but I haven't had to do any major cleanups.
EK Success no longer manufactures them, boo. If anyone wants to sell one, feel free to PM me!
Reviews are mixed; maybe they decided the complaints weren't worth the $$, given the very low price point. Or it could be/probably is something totally different. Too bad for us. I like EK in general - their punches are nice.
ETA Wilton bought them out a while back. Apparently things changed at that point.
