Default Stampamajig/Misti

Does the Stampamajig do the same thing as the Misti?

The Misti makes doing several cards alike much easier. I have used the Stampamajig and feel they are two different tools, but have a similar concept. The Misti to me is so much easier to use.

The concept behind both is the same (or at least similar enough to say so), but the MISTI can do more than the Stampamajig, in my opinion, and is DEFINITELY more foolproof! There is still plenty of room for user error with a SAMJ, and not much with the MISTI. If you watch videos on the two, you will get a better idea of the differences. I know that I've done things with the MISTI that I would never have even attempted without it. Some people feel that the SAMJ fits their needs and budget just fine, others (like me) feel like the MISTI is worth several times the price - it's a personal thing, just like everything else in the art world...

In one way they are similar - they are both positioners - but the comparison ends there. The MISTI eliminates human error from positioning - so for me, I always manage to bump the sheet and end up getting my stamping wrong with the SAMJ - as Sue said, the MISTI is foolproof.

But there are all sorts of things you can do with a MISTI beyond positioning - check out the video channel in their forum to see if that's something that interests you.

Keeping my SAMJ to use with wood-mount stamps. I haven't yet figured out how to position multi-layer stamps with Misti.

Me too - I don't have the energy to unmount all those

I did a video on multi-layer rubber stamps with the MISTI here

Thanks for posting this. Once I deleted the pop-up "How to get rid of your toenail fungus" I could see the whole thing. Do you have a video for layering with red rubber?

It's such a good video, thank you Lydia! Now can you help me use that same technique on stamps that look like stitching? Feel slow today.

I would stamp the stitch (only 4 inches long) on the plastic, place over and line it up with my previous stamped "stitch" that I want to make continuous, then pick up the stamp with the MISTI lid right there off the plastic sheet, then remove the plastic sheet and stamp, right?

Sorry to OP for hijacking – I have the SMJ and the MISTI now, and I can tell you that the MISTI is miles easier to use. I never had the hand strength to keep that SMJ in the same place while I grabbed/inked the stamp and brought it back to the paper. Made me feel like a klutz! But no more.

Thank you everyone. Now, one more question for those who have the SMJ - can you use acrylic/cling stamps with it?

I use a stampamjig for most things. Acrylic and cling work...but...if you take the stamp off the acrylic block and realize you need it again, you need to re-stamp on the plastic sheet. Or even if you clean it and it moves...

Is that the kind of thing you are asking about?

MISTI type tools are more useful (to me at least) for making multiples.

Thanks for your help. The MISTI is nearly $150 here in Australia and I am trying to get something that will do both mounted and unmounted.

If I'm understanding you, you can use the SaMJ with both wood-mounted stamps and clear stamps mounted on an acrylic block. If you're very dexterous, you can probably even use it with red rubber cling stamps without a block!

Thanks Annie. That is what I needed to know because I can afford the SMJ but not the MISTI which will not do wood mounted anyway. And, like you, I do not make multitudes of the same card and have to watch my money as I am on a disability pension (Australia).

Thanks again Annie for your help. Will look into a SMJ as I already have acrylic blocks.
