Spiral wires for the Cinch

Hi, everyone! I just got a Cinch v2 last night and noticed on the side of the box it says that the Cinch takes spiral wires as well as the various sizes of O wires. Just curious if anyone has used the spiral wires and can divulge information as to what type of spiral wires - are there various sizes like the O wires? Any cons to using them and where is a good quality but inexpensive place to get them. Thanks in advance your responses!

Thank you for the link, Vic. Do you know what pitch those wires are? I know for the O wires, a 2:1 pitch is needed. However, I was surfing here Spiral Coils and noticed they mentioned that these spiral coils won't work for the Cinch...which does not make sense to me since I understand 2:1 pitch means there are 2 holes per inch. Instead, they pointed to these wires for the Cinch/BIA Binding Wires. They even commented that the Cinch uses a 2:1 pitch. The only difference is that the first link is for spiral coils while the second one is for O wires. Maybe they were confused? Or maybe I am? LOL

I saw a post about that site and did check out the prices for the O wires, which were very cheap in comparison to other places. However, when I looked at their coil wires, I noticed they did not carry 2:1 pitch, which I assume is what the Cinch needs....but I am still a bit confused about the whole pitch thing because of Bonnie's Best. I wish there was a place that sold a variety color pack in less than 100 counts. I don't think I'll ever bound 100 books of the same size and color! LOL

I will never, ever probably use up all the 100 either, but you don't have to use the total 12" length of the wires. They can easily be cut to the size book you want to make.

Also, I'm not at all picky about color when it comes to bindings, so I got black and am happy with them.

I would rather have some to give away than to pay the outrageous prices that just a few cost - but that's just me.

I only know that the same 2:1 wires for BIA & the Cinch. I know the Cinch coils work for the Cinch punched holes. I don't know anything about any other coils.

I agree, it's hard to use 100 wires of the same size, unless you bind books for resale or give a LOT of handmade books as gifts! 50 is a much better quantity, IMHO. Bonnie's Best binding wires are boxed in quantities of 50, except for 1-1/4" wires, which are available in boxes of 30.

Metal wires are much more likely to get tangled and intertwined than plastic spiral coils. That's why it's not possible -- or at least it's not SIMPLE -- to re-package metal wires in smaller quantities. Plastic spiral coils can be counted and put in plastic bags, but metal wires have to be very carefully boxed in boxes that hold the wires tightly enough to keep them from getting hopelessly tangled. Part of the reason a package of 2 wires is so expensive is the labor and materials required to package them in such a small quantity.

Re: plastic spiral coils, the standard pitch for these is 4:1, but major coil manufacturers also produce coils in a 5:1 and a 3:1 pitch. The Cinch spiral coils are specially produced by We R Memory Keepers in a 2:1 pitch. WRMK is having plastic spirals packaged only in small quantities, and WRMK is charging the same price for plastic spirals as they charge for metal wires. (Normally, plastic spiral coils cost MUCH less than metal binding wires.) Unfortunately, since the 2:1 spiral coils can only be used with these small-niche consumer machines, and cannot be used with other commercial binding machines, the 2:1 coils are not available from major wire suppliers, and therefore cannot be purchased in bulk packaging like binding wires can.

That was very informative, Bonnie. Guess I'll be sticking with the double O wires, then. Of course I can also consider adding a Rubicoil...It just never ends! LOL

how do i use the spiral wires? do i just have to place one hole at a time for each page? I can't find tutorials on how to use the spiral wires anywhere. Thanks in advance for the help.

Are you asking about the spiral coils? After your holes are punched (I use my Cinch) you start at one end and turn them through the holes.

Oh, sorry! I think the coils are only in one inch size. Maybe they'll intro some other sizes at CHA!

I know this thread is old - I am hoping you will see this lol

Did these wires that you purchased actually work with your Cinch machine?
