Default Wizard vs Spellbinder

I was looking at Overstock.com for nesties and see they have the Spellbinder and Wizard. The wizard's appear to be a bit cheaper. Anyone know the difference? thanks.

Here are the sizes for the Scallop Oval Nesties Large:
1: 1 x ¾"

2: 1¾ x 1¼"

3: 2¼ x 1¾"

4: 3 x 2¼"

5: 3¾ x 2¾"

Here are the sizes for the Scallop Oval Nesties Small:
1: ¾ x ½"

2: 1⅜ x 1"

3: 2 x 1½"

4: 2¾ x 2"

5: 3¼ x 2½"

It doesn't appear that they have one that is the exact dimension of the punch you were speaking of. Wish I could be of more help!

Also, the stamps that have "knobs" to fit in the scallops of the scallop oval punch won't work in nestabilities because there are not the same number of scallops around.

I have the nestabilities petite ovals and bought the SU small oval to fit inside the smallest small petite scalloped oval. It leaves a more pleasing border for me, but there is more border on the ends than the top and bottom. The smallest petite oval leaves just the very edge of those tiny scallops showing. That is why I like the SU small oval punch with it.

Hummmm. Thanks stampers. That's not the information I was wanting so now I'll have to decide if I want ONE punch that fits or 5 dies that don't really fit :>)

Sorry if you didn't feel that your question was sufficiently answered. I thought it got covered, but perhaps we are unclear as to what you want to know? The Nesties are NOT an exact fit with the wide oval punch (which means they won't work as well with the "Oval All" stamp set). Will you get more bang for your buck with the Nesties? Absolutely! But if you want something to pair with the stamps, then the wide oval punch will better server your needs.

Oh! And by the way, a "Spellbinder" and a "Wizard" are one in the same ... Spellbinders is the company that makes the Wizard ... not sure what you were looking at with a price differential (maybe the old purple Wizard vs. the newer raspberry colored one?) ... both do the same job. The raspberry is a bit more ergonomic and the mats have a longer life ...

Oh no, I received exactly the information I wanted; but I now have to make MY decision as to what I want to do. What I meant was that I was hoping one of the Nestie sets would be real close to the SU punch. Sorry I misstated my reply. Thanks Wendy.

I think that the Nesties are such good value and so useful. I went to a S.U. workshop and loved what the demo did with the Top Note die, but it was $42.95AUD! I bought a set of Lables 8 on U.S. Ebay for about $25AUD and I use them a lot, much better value for money.

I ordered Spellbinder's tan mat and in the package I found not one but two of them, why two? I have the cuttlebug, do i need to use both of them when embossing?

Thanks in advance!

They are sold in packs of 2. I don't believe you need 2 for the Cuttlebug. It's always good to have a back-up, don't you think? You can cut one of the tan mats to any size you need. Sometimes there are times when you don't want to emboss the whole area - like when using the Borderabilities Petite line.

Here is the sandwich for embossing Spellbinder dies in the Cuttlebug:
A plate
Spellbinders Die Template, cutting ridges up, paper in die
One Spellbinders Tan Embossing Mat
2 or 3 pieces of cardstock - for shim
2 B Plates

I am in need of white plates for the old purple machine. I thought I saw a source in this thread, but now I can't find it. Does anyone know a company that still has some of these?

Thanks in adavance.

I have the old purple machine. I just use the new plates even though they say only for the raspberry, and they work fine.

I do the same (using the new longer white mats with the Purple Wizard). I found them recently for $17.99 online at WalMart (I chose ship-to-site so the only additional charge was sales tax and I picked it up at the store of my choice.) Wal-Mart has a surprisingly large online craft selection!

Good to know. There was someone from the design team here recently to teach a class and she told me that I could use the new plates, but that I would have to shim everything. That just sounded like it would be more work than it was worth.

I'll check that out and compair prices to Ucut@home. I usually order my Spellbinders stuff there using a 40% coupon.

Okay I'm confused. I have nesties - scalloped ovals, scalloped circles and scalloped squares.

Is there a way to ONLY cut and not emboss?? I use them in my big shot

I'm not sure about using a big shot, but with the wizard it is a two step process, so you would only do the cut step and skip the second step which embosses.

Well, I certainly haven't shimmed anything with the new plates that I wouldn't have with the old ones. Come to think, it's only the Bigz dies that I shim, and that's with the Universal Adapter, not the white or cream plates at all.

I have a Big Shot Pro, so I'll be able to use the Grand Nesties without having to buy the Calibur. However, I read a post on another board that said the Calibur machine is under $100. That's a great price for a large-format cutter, IMO.
OMG! It looks sooooo cool! And so do the new dies.

Thank Sabrina! I took your word for it and ordered the extended plates for the 12" border dies. They only come in the new style. Now that I have them ordered I can't wait to try them.

Default Tim Holtz plates in Wizard?

I've searched the thread and can't find a reference.
All the sites I've seen say the TH texture fades are only for Sizzix and Big Shot.
Is that just marketing, do they work in the Wizard?

I would guess that is just marketing. I haven't found a die or folder yet that I can't get to work in my Wizard. May have to play with the sandwich, but I would start with the same one I use for other folders. If they are made by Sizzix they would be the same thickness as any other Sizzix folder.

That's rather what I thought. But then, I've never tried a Sizzix folder, just the Fiskars texture plates which I've had for years, and the Provocraft ones. OK, I'll order the one I have my eye on . Thanks.

The Tim Holtz/Sizzix folders will work just GREAT in the Wizard (they are the same, just named differently!. In the raspberry Wizard you just need to put some cardstock in the folder and run the folder between the two white plates and you are good ta go!

Do any of the stores (joanns, mikes, acmoore) carry the magnetic folders to hold these?

From the videos I have watched on the Grand Calibur, it appears that there is an extreme amount of cranking to get the plates through. I'm guessing this is to make it easier to turn while still giving a good amount of pressure to the plates. I just wonder if it would get annoying if you were cutting a bunch of the same die over and over. I looked for any reviews and there don't seem to be any available yet.

I was fortunate enough to try the machine while at CHA and I have to say that even thought it seems to need alot of cranking, it takes no effort to crank it! Plus you can fit so many dies on the plate at once that you will get your projects done so much faster, too! When I tried out the machine, I cut/embossed 3 In-Spades Pendant dies and centers all at once! No issues with cutting and the embossing was outstanding!

Did you cut 3 different dies at the same time, or 3 thickness of card stock at the same time?

I cut 3 sets of the same die at one time. So there were 3 pendants, 3 centers and 3 accents on the cutting mat at the same time. That is 9 dies! The Grand Caliber cut them all at once plus it was super easy to emboss. I have to say, I can't wait to get my hands on this machine.

Does anyone know if the ric rac border die-cut is supposed to cut on just one side? I'm really bummed. That's not what the picture looks like.

I called customer service. She said the packaging was wrong and it's supposed cut only on one side. Shoot!

The write-up says that the one with holes to thread ribbon through cuts on both sides and the other one cuts on only one side. Is that wrong?

Nope! You and Jen are both right!! I went back and read the description myself on Spellbinders' website ... the wavy die cuts both edges, but the zig-zag one cuts on one edge and embosses the other. Totally missed that!! Sorry ladies!!

By the way, Jen ... your p/m box is full gf!! I tried to send you the following message, but it wouldn't go through ...

'Before I had actually come back on the Nestabilities thread to see your responses I went back to Spellbinders' website to double-check my answer about the zig-zag Borderabilities die ... I TOTALLY biffed my answer!! I am sooo sorry about the misinformation! I don't actually have this particular die and did a "look before ya leap" kinda thing!!

On a side note, your new avie look fantabulous!!"
