So the Spectrum Noir's don't have a brush tip? I see ACMoore is now carrying these in sets at 6 for $12.99. They are in color families. I was going to buy some, but I was confused about the tips. I want a brush tip, not a pen-like tip....and I don't like the chisel tips even on the copics...

I love the SN markers! I initially purchased them at AC Moore but I found out that Consumer Crafts has the 6 marker sets for $8.97 each and free shipping if you spend at least $100. I returned the markers to AC Moore and ordered them from Consumer Crafts. It took less than a week to get to me.

If you use a 50% coupon at ACM they are only $6.50 a set. You'd have to buy them a set at a time since you can only use one coupon each visit, but this would be a good way to get them...

Hi Everybody,
I have read every review and post I could find on SN and think for the most part the spectrum are probably not the quality of copics and frankly with the price difference I wouldn't expect them to be. Having said that most reviews I have read have been pretty favourable. SimonSays Stamp does an excellent review, if I can find the link I will post it. Anyway thanks to all the great comments here I made decision and have jumped in with both feet and ordered the 72 marker set! I had to have them sent to my parents in FLA so won't get them until they come home May 08 but will post how I like them. In the mean time looking forward to reading more posts so please keep them coming

I just recently got a bunch of these. I have some copics, maybe about 100 or so, and while I do love those I didn't really have enough colors. So...I figured I would try the spectrum out while building my copic collection.

The bullet nip takes some getting used to because it is a LOT different than a brush tip on the copic. I colored some yesterday, I'm at work so I'll try to post a pic later, and really like the Spectrum. For the price, you really can't beat it either!

I finally got some and while I can't compare to Copics since I've never used them, I do know they will take me awhile to figure out. I messed with them twice and it was kind of a mess. But since I got them for free (with credits) I don't mind taking time to figure it out.

I have all of the 6 pack sets of SN and I love them. I need to purchase a few refills and then plan to start saving to buy the 24 pen sets. I think these are excellent markers for the price and I have no trouble with them at all. I have even used them on Georgia Pacific paper from Walmart and they work just fine. I definitely recommend them.

I am really liking these markers. I am using them on all my cards now. i have the full set of the colour packs (6 pen packs) and i am going to get the 4 24 pen sets when i can afford them. I have been experimenting with the card I use. I have actually found they work well on some ultra smooth card I got from a craft show for 1 for 10 sheets! I have bought some better quality card to try out too! I am unable to post my pictures on here as i don't have a re-sizing option and my pics are too big! I am trying to come up with a website though to act as a kind of gallery. I do need to point out I am not an expert, i just colour! I am in awe of the fantastic colouring i see on this gallery and i hope to improve as i practice! Sorry to babble on!!

I wouldn't airbrush with them unless you are sure they do not contain denatured alcohol. Copic and promarkers contain ethanol and it is OK to airbrush, denatured alcohol is ethanol plus a poison (so people do not drink it LOL!) and should not be spray applied, that is why you should not spray tim holtz alcohol ink either. I am bummed reading the review because I saw 24 packs on sale for $24 today! I got a pack of skin tone SN pens at ACmoore and my only complaint was that they felt dry but they were really light colors and I find my really light Copic colors feel dry even when fresh and reinked. It is hard to resist cheap markers though

Sharoninkster-
Thank you for posting a link to the side-by-side comparison. I have been coloring with Copics and Bics and am not an artist by any means. Glad to know that the SNs absorb into the paper more than the Copics and it was not me just being too heavy handed. After using them, I think they are okay but need to practiced with them more to learn how to control the bleeding. I really like the brush tip more for getting into tiny places and that is why I have only 2 Copic original pens.

This sale was posted in another thread - in case you didn't see it. Today only at Consumers Crafts. Spectrum Noir markers on sale, and then 30% off, with free shipping. So a set of 6 is only $6.28 with free shipping!

They sell for $14.99 per set of 6 at Joanns.

I just got three sets to fill in my marker stash.

I have some of them...used them at a stamping open house where they had both Copics (have quite a few of them), and the Spectrum Noir...they seem to work the same..and are much less expensive..so I bought some of the colors I didn't have in the copics. I did get THEIR colorless blender to use even though the teacher said it was the same kind of blender. To me, the copic blender didn't remove the color from the Noir marker as well as from a copic color.

The first time I used these it was a complete mess. But the next few attempts were actually really nice. I do like them and intend to get a few more sets. It took me awhile to get used to their tips but now that I have it's no big deal.

Maybe I missed it.... what's the best black ink to use to prevent or lessen the bleeding?

Made in China, Spectrum Noir markers are craft-grade. Made in Korea by art paint specialists, ShinHan Touch are affordable artist-grade alternatives to Copic. They blend well with them and they are definitely superior to Spectrum Noir. I use ShinHans and like them. The new, refillable styles with reformulated ink and replaceable nibs are very good, with 204 clear, non-streaking colors. They come in two styles: 1) Brush and chisel nib. 2) Fine point and chisel nib. Avoid the old style sold unauthorized by ShinHan on ebay.

Definitely beware of ShinHan knock-offs such as the Touch 3, which are not made by ShinHan at all. There may still be some older style ShinHan markers 'out there' that are being cleared out by distributors. Authentic markers will say ShinHanArt and 'made in Korea' on the barrel. These are excellent, artist-quality alcohol markers.

I use Momento ink and just lately discovered that Gina K. Designs black ink works great too. Just make sure all the ink types are dry well first before you start to color with any alcohol ink markers.

I also use Gina K White Cardstock. It's think and will NOT bleed through.

Personally I haven't tired her New Black ink. I still use the Memento ink.
