Are you using the "draw/emboss" setting? I am, and I think I'll try using the embossing tip with the "cut" setting. I'll try anything at this point!

BTW, I've been swapping in/out the entire housing, not just the tiny metal tip.

I tried it with the cut and it worked great. I actually even forgot about the 'emboss' setting. I'll have to try it with that to see what results I get.

Off to watch the tutorial! (Embossing on "cut" didn't do the trick.)

I went back and checked my Slice settings and it was already on 'draw/emboss' so that must be the setting I used, not cut. Sorry for the bad info!!

Neither setting works for me. When I put the blade in and set it on the glass mat, it cuts perfectly. When I switch out for the embossing tip and put it on the black embossing mat, it moves around but produces nothing.

I've tried both loosening and tightening the tip housing. I read your tutorial (Thank you! Great pictures!). I've watched videos. I can't figure out what the problem is!!! grrrrrr

It sounds like the cutting unit is not popping out all the way. When you place it on the mat to emboss, try barely holding it off the page when you first hit that button that starts the movement. Quickly set it down and see if that makes a difference. I have to do that sometimes when my blade doesn't drop when I'm cutting.

I'm asking for a little Flip-type video camera for Xmas so I can make these tutorials a little easier.

YESSSSS! I went all in and decided to really tighten the tip housing. The MM site says to tighten firmly and then, if you're still having problems, tighten another 1/4 turn. This seems counter-intuitive for the problem, but TIGHTENING the tip, tightening it much tighter than I thought was wise, was the solution.

I had tightened it before, but hadn't really cranked it down. Now it works great. I even tried it with design cards that don't have the M+ and it will emboss, but since there's no shadow feature, it won't cut around the embossed shape. It'll still be cute to punch out and use that way, though.

The cards without the M+ can be set to draw/emboss. When you get the the screen with the house, hit the >> key to change the speed and hit the >> key again to change between "cut" and "draw/emboss."

Thank you so much, Novell! I'm so happy to have everything working!!

I'll remember that tip about the housing. I had wondered if that was the problem, but when I flipped the Slice over and watched it working, it did look like the unit was coming down properly.

My older boys will be getting Flips for Christmas.

You can use all the cartridges to emboss but you won't be able to cut the shadow without the MS+ cartridges.

I've only done it the one time, but I've only had my machine a few days. We've put a lot of mileage on it, though!

Do any of you have the cute little Slice bag? Is it big enough to hold the machine, 6x6 mat, cords, two design card zip-around binders, and the embossing kit (the mat & little case with the tips)? I'm considering buying it online, so I can't really return it if it won't hold all my Slice stuff.

Thanks!

I home my blade every time I change my cartridge. It just takes a second to do.

Yes, I have the cute little bag. It's wonderful! I do not have the tool kit but I have the zip case for the cartridges. Inside the bag is a pocket that holds miscellaneous items (I have my spatula and extra blades in there) as well as room for your Slice and power cord. I keep my small cutting mat and embossing mat in the other outside pocket since I don't have the tool kit. I bought this bag primarily because it made it easier to take my Slice to the classes I teach but I love it because it keeps everything together.

Yes, I'd like to keep everything together. I don't have the tool kit, but I do have two of the small zip cases that hold the design cards. Sounds like the bag will work. Thanks again, Novell.

ENABLING!!!!

scrap-mart.com has great prices on all the cards, even have some pre-orders, AND FREE shipping on all slice cards

also here's a code to get 40% off one item. it takes it off the LIST price, not scrapmarts price. enter the code into the COMMENTS BOX towards the end of the order.
they will charge full price, then refund the difference. kinda weird how they do it but hey, i got STudio Essentials for 23.99!!!!

code: Gingerbread.

you must also say which item to take it off of if you order more than one.

I'm with Sempermom re Scrap-mart. I got some cards there during BF and the shipping was very fast. Got a nice email from one of the owners, too, to let me know one of the cards I ordered is now on backorder (Jungle). (The got their cards in, but they were all blank!)

I ordered one from the infomercial last week. I know, I know, but I was up late with my new grandbaby. Anyway, I keep calling the customer service # and all they tell me is that my order isn't even in their system yet so they can't check on it to make sure they received it. AHHHH, I want my Slice!!!!

Sometimes it will stop cutting all the way through, sometimes it tears your paper, sometimes it just goes all wonky.

Hmmmm, I'd say "no".

Like Novell, I home it when I switch Design Cards, and beyond that, it seems to need homing infrequently . . . mebbe when I switch thicknesses of paper and have to loosen or tighten the blade.

You might put in an email to Customer Service at www.whyslice.com tho, and ask what the norm should be.

I find with different cards, I have to home more often. When I use Mistletoe, I have to home frequently. With the older cards, I don't.

hmm...thats odd that it only cuts that one design wonky. sounds like you tried all the things they will ask if you did too.
best thing to do is to call first thing Monday morning, thats the fastest way to get a response.

will it cut other cards ok? is it just this one that is behaving badly? it may be a faulty card.

I'm sorry its misbehaving. hope they can fix you up quickly

Okay Ladies, I need some serious help. I received the Slice last Christmas as a gift from DH. Well, I never had really good luck so I shelved it. So today I decided to give it another shot. It won't cut at all, seems like the blade isn't dropping down far enough. I adjust the blade pressure and even the blade itself no luck.

So if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA
Suzi

did you plug in and let charge for at least an hr?
did you try to tighten the blade as far as it will go, then turn back a little?
did you change the blade?
sorry, i know, 20 questions! i'm trying to think of all the ones they asked me when i called!
lets see, did you change cards and see if it will cut for a different one? soemtimes its the card not the machine.

also does the blade "home " properly?
