@Txhoneybee: yes I do have the hands-free kit and I totally love it! I definitely couldn't go back to using my Slice without it. I find the cuts are cleaner and I'm sure it's kinder on my blades, too.

@mswhittaker23: thank you for your comment! It's nice to find another PL-er/Slicer I am a big Slice fan and I pretty much try to accommodate it into any creative project, hehe!

Caroline, I love your PL projects. I never heard of it before and think it's a wonderful idea! I too have had my Slice for years. One of my pet peeves with it is that it doesn't make nice round circles like yours does. Might this mean it needs to be re-calibrated? I also find that it doesn't cut through some of my papers. At first I just thought it was the weight of my paper, but I'm finding it happening more often. Any clues?

Thanks, camerabuff! Project Life is totally awesome... Like I explained on my blog, I'm not using PL in exactly the same way that most people are, but it's been incredibly freeing to be able to scrapbook in that way. I'm finding I'm looking at my Slice design cards in a totally different way, too, as it's opened up all these new opportunities. It's like having a bunch of new design cards without paying for them, hehe!

About the circles: actually those circles on the journaling cards were punched - they're 0.5" circles. But your Slice should be able to cut round circles. Are you using the hands-free kit? I recommend it to solve a whole range of Slice issues! Also make sure your cutting mat is clean when you respray it (I use Krylon repositionable adhesive) rather than respraying over the top. The other thing you might want to check is your blade - see if a brand new sharp one makes a difference. Hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply, AngelStory. I do have the hands free kit and love it. Maybe my mat needs to be cleaned. Also I haven't tried the spray on glue. I still use the old-fashioned glue in the tube. Maybe I'll have to try some this weekend. I've been using my Slice for more than just cards or scrapping. A friend and I are doing a craft show on 3/31 and I've been using it to decorate candy wrappers and little boxes and such. I'm really glad I do have the Slice. Thanks for your input.

I am wondering if all the Elite and Fabrique cards will work in the original Slice?? I have not used my Slice very often and but am loving some of the newer cards.

TIA

I read on another website that the fabrique cards will work in the Slice but no one seems to know if you can actually cut fabric with the Slice. I am hopeful that you can because it seems like the machines are the same and I would not want to have to double purchase.

Marlene have you tried emailing Making Memories? They are really good about answering questions. Sometimes you have to be patient with waiting on the answer, but they do answer.

Hey
I'm in the UK and have just heard about MM selling off the slice machine's at 'Michaels'?
I'm really sad that we can't access these bargains.
On another note has anyone tried the smallest cuts on the salutations card? Mine come out really distorted. (with the slice elite) MM changed my machine (I had to pay postage for the part I had to return to show I had disabled the machine).
I've tried calibrating the new machine, but the cuts are still distorted? Any suggestions

I would love to have the Expression I own the Slice and (since mine is working fine) think it is a great value!! HOWEVER- I would stick to what you have because Customer Support(read reviews & I have a friend who had bad experience trying to get response or help when her Slice stopped working and she did all the trouble shooting). Her experience discouraged me from any further purchase in fear for my Slice going out.
But from what I have, I still enjoy using it. No, some of the cut outs are not perfect but I am usually able to fix the problem if there is one.

I have a faulty design card ..... Was okay but suddenly slice machine won't read it. Have tried Making Memories Customer support but getting no response. I am in New Zealand and emails to them going unanswered and their support site seems to be out of order. Can anyone offer some advice as to where to go from here. Middle of a project which is now on hold.

Christolen I would try posting on the making memories blog if you can't get through to customer service. What design card are you working with? Maybe someone who has the card you need would be willing to cut the designs you need. I have seen people ask for die cuts on message boards before, and they usually get some fellow crafters to help them out. Hope this helps.

Anyone still liking the Slice Elite? I understand they are not making them anymore but wondering if anyone knows where you can possibly still find them for a decent price. I noticed they have a new slice out but thinking it is going to be hard finding that in any store. Anyone have info on the newest one as well? I like the idea of them being portable and the cards are my style. If I could find one for the right price I would be willing to take the risk .... I think Give me your recent feedback please!

It seems like it. I love my Slice and hope it works forever because I have a feeling that Making Memories will not repair on older model.

Amymac,
Here is a link to Oh my Crafts website they have a good special on pink Slice bundled with a lot of accessories: http://www.ohmycrafts.com/slice-elit...ve-bundle.aspx. If you sign up to their e-newsletters you get 20% or more off your order (be aware they will send many emails) so it takes the price to $159.
I have heard they are only making the fabric (green) one and will no longer repair the regular one. Be aware that there may be a risk buying the bundle as the Slice machine has had a LOT of problems - I am on my 4th one, the first three became faulty after a few months of use. I also know others that sent one or more machines back. I have found there it was a long and painful process to getting a properly working slice, and while many problems have been ironed out, I suspect they are not all ironed out, and this may be why they dropped the product. However, best wishes if this is the way you want to go!

I'm so sad to hear this! I spent a fortune on my Slice and design cards, but haven't used any of my scrapping things in a few years. I just pulled everything out and came on here to see if there was any exciting new Slice news.

Hi Erin in Okc. I, too, spent a fortune in my Slice and design cards before I realized it was no longer being made or repaired. I have some problems with mine, but I still use it as much as I can. Some times when it cuts a shape, the blade will slice through the shape before it's done. I have to make sure the tackie glue holding the paper is the right thickness and not too old. With patience I can get a good product out of it. I have some samples in my gallery. Hope yours works for you. Have fun!

I sometimes have the problem of the Slice blade cutting through the design instead of the blade lifting in the end. I found as long as I use my Slice while it's plugged in I have no problem. If I unplug it I get wonky cuts. So much for being totaly portable. But I still love it.

I love mine, too! But I haven't scrapbooked at all in several years. I hope I can remember how to use the thing! Ok, I played around with it this morning, and I know how to use it. Just can't remember my little tricks for when it was giving me trouble. At least I found my charging cord!

I keep mine plugged in while using it. It doesn't seem to get enough electricity if you don't. I still have problems once in a while, but I've been able to make some really neat things with it.

I too was having problems like stated on here. I had kept mine plugged in for more than a year yet it wouldn't stay on. I had a first Gen Slice and the Elite. This was happening with my Elite. I contacted Slice and the nicest lady helped me. She instructed me to swap the batteries (very thorough instructions) and low and behold they both worked after that, the cutting through the image she said was machine needing charging. I charged it...and it didn't do it anymore.

Thank you Jen Kelley!

Yes there are.... under the design card, there are two little screws... unscrew them. You will see the batteries, wrapped in green plastic film. There is a wire, or wires, that go to the motherboard. Using your fingers or tweezers, pull that out. Leave it out an hour, she said, and then plug it back in. Charge it for an hour and it SHOULD be good to go... she said its called "purging" your batter or something like that... it kinda shocks it and/or freaks it out... lol. Anyhoots, I did that and mine has been working ever since. Hope this helps.

Oh, Peezie, you don't know how excited I am to learn this. I can't wait to try it out. I went on a shopping spree this past week and found a cartridge I didn't have at a yard sale for $10.00! Even though I have difficultly with the Slice, I thought $10.00 was a good price and couldn't resist it. Now I really can't wait to try it. Thanks for your tip. I'll let you know if it works for me.

Can anyone help me out. My Slice says ROT VALUE : 5 on the screen. Is this normal? It is not completing its cutting and then this shows up on the screen again. Do I need to change some setting somewhere?
Thanks

I've never seen this error message. Have you tried homing it recently? Maybe that will re-set it.

Not sure if I am to reply to you or just post. Went to bed and today looked at the machine again. I had read many users required it to be plugged in to work properly. Even though my battery did not say it was low I plugged it in today and it did cut the complete image properly. That being said I still have a rot value message on my machine the whole time blocking out my programs. This value seems to change numbers as it cuts. I wonder how I can get rid of this visual. I have homed it and that does not change this message. At least it is cutting right now fingers crossed it will continue. Thanks for your thoughts. Any other ideas and suggestions are welcome : )

Yes, it has been discontinued. The company does make one for fabric cutting, but I'm not sure if the paper cartridges will work in it.

I know I'm late to the party, but... I've had mine for several years. Didn't really work right from the start. Put it away for while & just brought it out to try again. No luck. As Camerabuff said it'll slice thru before it's done & more times than not it just doesn't even cut. I have a handful of design cards, does anyone know if they can be used with anything else? I'm saying good-by to that machine!

karenanddennis,
Before you get rid of the design cards, do some research on the Slice for material. I've been reading a lot about it and don't hear anything negative about it. I've heard that the cards can be used in that machine. You just have to use the paper blades in it. I've been thinking about it.
Let me know what you think about it.

I was wondering too if the fabric slice would take the paper design cards. I wonder what kind of blade is used for fabric?

I'm going to do more research on the fabric slice and report back here. If anyone else does research, please post it so we all know what's what. Thanks.

thanks for the replies guys. but I have so many other ways to cut shapes & letters I just don't want the hassle w/ it. but the cards do have some useful pics I wouldn't mind using. That's why I'm wondering is there is any other machine (not a Slice of any kind) that I could use these cards with. Or if anyone knows where/how I would search for that. I'm really at a loss. thanks again for the help.

I have just posted a baby shower card that I used my Slice for most of it. I have to say, ever since I unplugged the battery for a couple of hours, it has been working fine. Also the other trick is to make sure the machine is fully charged. If it isn't, it will not cut properly. I made this card in 1 afternoon. I'm trying to use my Slice since I have so much money invested in it. The other card I just did was for a 50th birthday. You'll find them both in my gallery.
