ETA: If you're interested in the Slice Elite @ Scrap-Mart, I suggest you don't wait. When they say they're selling out, they mean it. I had the Zootopia card sell out while it was in my cart - guess I was distracted too long by the awesome prices on Copics. Oh well, my loss, but the person who got that card for $25 - LUCKY!

Ok, I could have probably saved money at scrapmart, but I didn't see this until after I ordered from craft-e-corner. BUT, I got the Elite for $99, and two design cards, all for $180 shipped.
I was disappointed this morning when I went to both Michael's and Hobby Lobby and neither one of them had any Slice stuff on sale. The lady at Hobby Lobby said it's always in the sale ad, so now I know I haven't been missing any sales.

I watched a youtube video this morning and you still need the adhesive but a light coat (a la a quick spray of the making memories repositionable spray adhesive).

I'm telling you, I BARELY need any adhesive at all. I'm still using the last of the vellum spray that I have, because it works great. But each time I get out my mat, I use a wet paper towel to gently wipe it down. After it dries, it's ready to go again. It sticks just enough that the paper doesn't move when it's being cut, and it is easily removed when you're done. Love it!

I should take advantage of the $99 Elite, but I want to read some user reviews first. So, you guys be sure to report back after you've given your Elites a shakedown cruise, please. Thanks!

I went to Stop and Scrap.com and can't find either the Slice cart or the 1/2 price Slice Cartridges. What am I doing wrong? I sure would like to look at both before it's too late!
Thanks!

I can't wait to give you those reviews! I wonder if I can take it for a test ride while my husband is at work/kids at school? Just to make sure it works, ya know? By Christmas the 30 day return period is almost over, right? Yes, I'll have to try it out first. It already says it's shipped, so it will probably get here sometime before the end of next week.

Ooooooh! I got it now! Slice Carts ~ Slice cartridges ~ DUH! I was anxious to see something I could set my cute, little pink Slice on. I went to Scrap-Mart and bought two "carts" (what a deal!) and got a whole lot smarter!!!!

Ok...I played a little tonight...I (unfortunately) was working on extremely thin paper. Some cheap paper pack form Paper Wishes when I firs got started. I was so used to my Slice ruining my paper I wanted to start with my el-cheapo first. First I got my original one out and make some cuts (awful) It has been sitting plugged in for several months and after two cuts it was blinking and saying battery low and my cuts were mangled.
I got my new Elite out and make the same cuts and they were perfect. I have not calibrated it or messed with the blade tension yet. Because I was working on such thin paper I made several cuts of the exact image so I can adhere them together to make it thicker and they were exact matches to each other. They perfectly lined up. I was working with the new Noel Layers Cart. and only had some minor problems with the paper lifting and tearing during a cut with the scrap was smaller than the square base so there was no magnetic pressure holding it down. My adhesive is probably needing to be replaced. Remember it has been sitting for several months with wax paper on it.
Even my 8 yr old daughter walked by and said that "It's Working Mama!!!"

So far I am pleased. I wish that the original one was at this caliber since the "Get Go" So much frustration for me with my machine. I really wanted to believe in it and I have so much money invested in it already.

Because I have to work on my dining table I had to put it up for dinner. (I HATE that...all of you ladies who have your own work space...please, please, please be thankful...I have to take it out, and put it away, take it out, put it away...you get the idea)

I am looking forward to playing some more with some thicker papers like DCWV glitter. and Papertrey Ink. I will let you guys know.

Valerie

P.S. I would like to know more about the "Vellum Spray" you mentioned.

I will try to remember to be grateful for my space. As cramped and annoying as it is, it is a space, and it's mine.

You don't need the vellum spray. I'm not even sure they make it anymore. I bought it back in '03 or '04 at a scrapbook convention, and only discovered how handy it is on my slice mat when their repositionable spray adhesive came out. I'll be buying that when I'm out of this. I'm just trying to be economical finishing this first. Unless you want it for adhering vellum? It was told to be the best thing for adhering vellum at the time, without showing your adhesive. Like I said though, I don't know if they even sell it anymore.

I'm glad to hear you love your Elite so far! My original actually works fine now, but I have had frustrating moments in time with it, so I do understand. I got the Elite because:
1. It's supposed to cut through thicker materials, and I'm hoping it's now easier to cut through my SU cardstock.
2. It's supposed to be faster, and I like faster!
3. I'd love to be able to give my original to my friend with no die cut machine. I'm not entirely sure she'll use it, but it may give her that boost she needs to get scrappin' again. She's always lookin' for her mojo!

Well, I did it. I told my friend I'm giving her my old Slice when the new one comes. She was more excited until I told her how much design cards are. There's a reason she doesn't have a die cutter! She doesn't want to spend any money. So I'm going to loan her one of my cards so that she can play with it, and send her a link to the slice website so that she can look at all of the different fonts and shapes available. I really need to print out some of those pages myself so that I can put them in a notebook to see them better than in those pamphlets.

JoAnne's had the original Slice on sale today for $49.99. But better yet, they had some of the design cards for $19.99. I just picked up Mistletoe and Remember This! I went in to look for a guillotine paper cutter (didn't find one) and came out with design cards. lol So Merry Christmas to me, I wasn't supose to be shopping for myself.

That's great! It reminds me of how I got the Slice in the first place. I was looking on the making memories site to see if they made those Tote-ally cool totes, or something like them, and the Slice was on the front page. I hadn't ever heard anything about it, and it had JUST come out. I went to two peas in a bucket to see if anybody was talking about it, and somebody had gotten it at Joann.com for half price, because they hadn't yet put a restriction on the online coupon. So I did just that! It was the most spontaneous purchase I've ever made, and one of the best! And I love it when I go looking for one thing and leave with something else, when it's a great deal!

Yea...I did notice that my Joanns had recently put out the Slice and Martha Stewart items in their own isle but it was in the fabric section!!! If I was not looking for the Ott lights in that section and needing to get some fleece...I would not have even known.

Well, I was going to wait a bit because I've been burned a couple times as a first-launcher (one who buys something right when it comes out), but I couldn't pass up $99. Even if the machines go on sale here for 40% off, ScrapMart's price is good because if I bought locally, the tax eats up the difference. I've had great luck with SM's customer service, too, so I know they'll help me out if I have any problems. MM's CS is also wonderful, in my experience.

I ordered the Elite, in blue to match all my Slice stuff. I also bought the MS versions of some older cards I have. So, I have the original Slice and 4 cards to give to someone, probably one of my 8-year-olds since he loves crafting with me.

Erin, I also use SU paper, and I hope the Elite will cut it like buttah. I love that the paper is so thick, but it does require more pressure to cut with the electric cutters.

I, too, am glad that you're happy with you new Elite. Mine just arrived today, and I went to the slice the handheld cordless digital design cutter by making memories site to register mine online, and the form indicates that the serial number is "not valid." Have any of you tried to register your new Elites online yet? I took the number directly off the machine, and tried to do it several times.

Would really appreciate any help that any of you might have! Thanks!

My only suggestion would be to e-mail them and let them know. Or call them and find out.

I got the Mike's email too but are you sure it is the Elite that is on sale? Also, it says that Slice products are excluded from the extra 15%. Hope I'm wrong.

What is your favorite cartridge. I've thought about ordering it but shipping to London is spendy. Pray for me, I am stuck here another few years as I was supposed to be back in the states and my job is keeping me here. bummer.

Karolyn!!!

I noticed that there is a screen in the "Setting Mode" when you are adjusting your settings that digitally displays the Serial number. See is you numbers match up...

also I was up to 4 am playing with the original and the Elite side by side....
And...

1. I do not notice any noticeable in speed between the two machines...Even in the Elite when I switch between slow and fast not big difference.

2. the Basic Design Card that comes with the Elite is DIFFERENT than the Original...DO NOT Calibrate your Elite with the original replacement card that they sent you for the original. I made that mistake and THEN realized that the card that come with the Elite is different and designed to calibrate the ELITE.

3. Take Note what the Original Calibration setting are on your machine...Because if you start messing around with different settings (like I did) you might want to restore the factory set calibration settings and "start over"

4. There is an additional setting on the Elite so you now have 4 main settings which are...
Radial Backlash Compensation (factory set on mine @ 2)
Rotational Backlash Compensation (factory set on mine @ B) which is diff than original.
Radial Home Offset (should always be set at 0)
Rotational Home Offset (factory set on mine @2)
and you also can set the TIP HEIGHT (This is probably what will allow thicker materials to be cut.

5. I just got off the phone (ironically with a "Valerie") and she is making me a ticket to send it in!!! BECAUSE...All the basic images like circle, square, star, heart are all wonky!!! Even after first calibrating it with the original calibration and then with the new card it came with. Of course I got different setting...but the cuts were still wonky. I could not believe it...I thought they had fixed this problem. I really had high hopes that the Elite had all the bugs worked out.

Hope this help some of you out there and I would love to hear what your experiences are as well.

OMG I'm so excited. I just purchased the Slice Elite. Was curious which design carts you would suggest purchasing? I'm going to use it for card making and craft projects. Thanks

Deb!

So excited to see that you've come over to the "dark side." LOL You're going to love your new Slice!! I haven't bought a design card that I didn't love, all for different reasons. I most recently purchased the Noel card, which allows you to layer more. But really, any of the cards are super fun to work with, so I'd go with what images speak to you! LOL

Hope you enjoy it!

Hugs!

Thanks, Val! I just looked like you suggested and saw that the number was completely different than the one on the machine and the box. BUT it wasn't the correct number, either. So I called Making Memories. The gal that I spoke with indicated that there was a batch of machines that didn't get the numbers entered into their system. So if you have one and the serial number doesn't register, just call Making Memories Customer Service (801-294-0430) and they'll enter the number into their system and will register your machine for you while you're on the phone with them.

Now I'm just hoping that I don't have the same problems with mine that you've had with yours. I, too, have the regular and Elite and plan to do a side by side comparison of speed, etc. Will let you know how that all comes out. By the way, I bought mine at ABC Toys & Crafts and they have a Cyber Monday sale going on right now - 25% off if you use discount code BFCM2010. I think the sale ends today, so if you're interested, you should jump on it NOW!

Thanks so much for your response. I really appreciate it and am so grateful for everyone sharing their experiences here.

Hugs!

I upgraded to the Elite myself when Mike's had all Slice 40% off, a week before Thanksgiving, i think. All I've cut so far is a circle but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! The circle is smooth and clean. Machine is less grindy sounding and sounds more electronic than the original, if that makes any sense. I also think it's a little quieter, probably because it doesn't make the grinding noise as badly. I haven't changed any of the settings on my Elite, by the way. Worked just fine out of the box after first charging it overnight.

Worked just fine out of the box after first charging it overnight.
I am not upgrading for a while (I'd say "never", but we all know how you should never say that, LOL!); I got the PINK one *just* this last summer!!!

And, a new Silhouette SD a couple weeks ago, which hasn't yet sailed on its maiden voyage . . .

Hi Novell!!!
I am so glad you your is working great...Do you mind if I ask if your tried your cuts at 1 and 1.5in? I was just curious. My small cuts were all wonky but got better the bigger it got. Please let me know.
Also...can you please tell me what your factory setting were set at for all 4 setting. I would love to give it a try on what yours is set at. I have not wrapped mine up yet b/c I am going to send in some of my cuts that are all wonky so they can see for themselves. I am really hoping that it is just user error and not a defect.

Thanks so much,
Valerie

Amber, we should get our Elites around the same time. I received my shipping notice yesterday. I'm going to try some SU paper first thing. That will be the litmus test for me. Love SU paper, but it requires more pressure than most other brands.

If I get wonky shapes, I'll need a drink. I returned my first Slice right after buying it because it cut wonky, and it took a couple months for Erin to convince me to give the system another try. The calibration card had come out by then and it corrected the problem enough that I jumped in again. (The symmetrical geometric shapes are often imperfect, but I have Nesties and punches for those shapes.)

I now have quite an investment in design cards and a second machine (the Elite). I really don't want to go back to wonky shapes. Fingers crossed that I have Novell's good luck!

I'm crossing my fingers with you! I already promised my original Slice to my friend, so if I get wonky cuts I WILL cry!! But I'm confident. It will be fine. I'll plug it in overnight, calibrate it, and it will be FINE!! Mine is supposed to be here tomorrow.

OH, you'll love your handsfree! That's how I've been cutting my SU cardstock up until now. I use the handfree, and after it's finished cutting, I just press cut again, and the handsfree keeps it in the same spot for the 2nd cut.

I did it backwards. I bought two new design cards, then after some thinking, I went back and ordered the Elite.

I've held off on the Hands-Free system. I know it gets rave reviews, but I really don't want to store it. I got the Slice specifically because it's so portable. I carry everything I need in the cute bag (the older style) -- though I need a third zip case for design cards now and I'm not sure how I'm going to cram it in there!

I hope I won't have to double-cut SU paper with the Elite.

Do you still use the 6 X 6 mat that came with it?

Most of the time. I have a 12x12, but I don't take it to school when I let the kids cut things for crafts or decorating the class. The small mat is easier to pack and it also keeps the kids from wasting too much paper.

I would probably use the HF at home if I had it, I just haven't gotten to the "gotta have it!" point yet.

I hear you on the third case for the design cards...I too will need another one soon. They have such a great variety to choose from and I am getting some smoking deals on Ebay for new cards right now.
blessings.

OH my gosh, you guys are so lucky to have so many cards! I have one case, and it might be half full.
My two new cards came today, though!
