I'm not sure I don't feel this way because everybody on this board talks about it so much ! I got my Big Shot and my Slice around the same time, and after playing with my Slice, I HATED using my Big Shot and sold it to a friend. But it's funny, as much as I hated using it, I also loved it. I loved the way it looked, and the way it worked. I'm so weird! It was just such a slow process compared to my Slice, and dies were so expensive compared to a Slice card. If I hadn't needed the space I would have kept the big shot, and eventually used it for embossing card fronts.

Scarlette, I use my Slice and my Cuttlebug (which I run my Nesties through), and between those two, I find I haven't needed another machine.....but that's just me!!!

I have a sizzix big kick, Slice and Cricut Expression.

1) First choice is Slice, it is easy to grab, fits where I'm working at. I have about 8 cards for it so any small and semi simple word/lettering/shape is there. I will invest in many more cards

2) Cricut I only use if there is a very particular font I just have to have that is only on my computer and paper piecing. I sold all my cartridges (except one) and only use it with SCAL. I will not get rid of my Cricut, because i just love doing the paper piecing with it. With SCAL there is not really any more inexpense since I don't buy cartridges.

3) I only use the big kick for Nesties and for using the embossing plates. I have a few of the SU dies (Top Note - which seems to be a paper craft staple and the milkbox). I won't invest in any shape dies (other then Nesties).

I can't see parting with any of them, but I've become accustomed to having certain tools to do certain things.

Yeah, I'm talking Big Shot but the Cuttlebug could be a choice also.... but AHHHH I so don't feel like spending more money on a cutting machine!

But I just might because I WANT to do those ovals so bad.

I really wanted to be able to emboss, so I bought a Sizzix Texture Boutique a few weeks ago. I bought it real cheap and that's a good thing, because now if I end up buying a Cuttlebug or a Big Shot it will be useless.

I know! lolll
My daughter is like, obsessed with it.
I might just end up giving it to her, and she loves crafting with me.
She's a great little girl with special needs, and we have an Etsy shop that features her little projects. I do help her quite a bit, but it's been very good for her self esteem to feature her work.
Here's the addy if you'd like to visit.... hopefully I'm not breaking any rules by posting it!

Whew! i'm glad i'm not the only one with different machines and use each only now and then!

i agree they all seem to have a special feature about them

i bought a Texture boutiqe on sale too, its just too darn cute, and i do dust it off now and then to embosss. and when the girls and i get together, it gives another machine to use so no waiting to emboss

I use my slice & Cuttlebug & big kick all the time. I love both tools & use them for different things. I make tons of flowers with the slice. I also made bunny's & grass for my easter cards. They came out great. I love how easy it is to store my slice & cartridges. I don't buy many sizzix cartridges, I just bought 4. I think they're too dificult to store or I'd probably have more. I have many nestabilities & think they are worth the investment. I think they are also easy to store. I love how they emboss & cut. The slice just doesn't do that. So, I think it would be worth while to get a die cut machine & soem Nestabilities. When I buy expensive tools, I research them a long time before I buy them. I just got the Slice & changed over the the think pink this week. I got my Big Kick last summer & my cuttlebug the year before. I'm not usually the first to own something because I want to be sure I'll use it. Heck, I just broke down and bought a Bind-It-All yesterday & have already made 8 books with it. I only buy something to use it right away. So, if you really want the oval nestabilities and know you'll use them, I'd get them. JIL

That all makes great sense Jil.
Thanks so much for your imput.... I realise that many people have a couple of different machines to do different things. I think I'm gonna buy a Big Shot while it's on sale at Joanns.

Thanks again

Too funny Sempermom!

I too have a Slice, and I just LOVE IT! I have 5 cartridges and wanting to add more to my collection. I have two friends that have Cricuts, and they love them as well. The slice cartridges are generic and can be a pro or con depending on how you look at it. You definately cannot find another die cutting machine that is this portable.

Nice Lilyzee..... I don't think I have seen that one. Over to the site I go...The cuttlebug is great for embossing. Tried the embossing a little on the slice, it's okay.

Hi Ladies!!!
I just received the magnetic "hands free" mat.

I am a little surprised because you are not able to "wash" the glass in water.

Also...it has a plastic rim around the glass (I guess this is where the magnets are housed) so for those of you who use the "SPRAY" adhesives...I guess you will have to figure out how to cover the plastic rim to keep the adhesive from covering that part. Since you can't "wash it" in water I guess that will be important.

Furthermore, many of us and "mastered the art" of positioning the Slice "sometimes hanging off the glass mat" to make the most use of our paper. With the magnetic collar on you can not "let it hang of the edge". The lip of the plastic rim keep it from doing that...So you will have to pick up and move your paper if you want to make the most use of the unused space.

Just thought you would want to know if you are considering it.

Hope that helps,
Valerie

yes, awesome info Valerie! Thanks

so, its kind of a trade off to go hands free. but i bet its still worth it if you are doing a lot of cutting in one sitting?

what about using baby wipes? thats what i like to clean the matt with, is that still an option?

I just ordered mine, so I'll let you know when it gets here, but I would assume that would be fine. I think the 'don't get it wet' is meant for the embossing side. You can't submerge it because of the embossing side, but it seems like baby wipes on the glass side would be fine. Anybody know for sure?

Has anyone been stocking up on the Slice card releases from January CHA? I am looking forward to the summer and western ones.
