Default Sizzix: Which die can you not live without?

I just bought a sizzix die cut machine and the sizzlits machine for doing my baby's album. Which dies can you not live without?

I bought the funky brush alphabet but am looking for more. Got my eye on the hydrangea sculpting die. The scuplting dies are so pretty...

Thanks

I, too, have my eye on the hydrangea die, but have yet to buy it. The one that I own that I use the most for scrapbooking is the bookplates.

I have all of the bookplate and tab dies and use them A LOT. Also, the file folder dies are wonderful for both scrapping and card making. Oh, almost forgot the tag dies -- love those!

I'm not familiar with file folders. What layouts have you used them on? Do you use brads with your tags?

Thanks.

Have you used chipboard with the Sizzix? How hard is it to use the Sizzix with the adapter so that I can use my Sizzlets?

I don't own a Sizzix, but know of friends that have had great success using Sizzix ORIGINALS dies on chipboard with their machine.

I have a Big Shot, and it also will cut through chipboard with the Thick Cuts and the Sizzix Originals Dies.

I think it depends on whether or not you've got a well made Sizzlit die; I had a bum Big Shot Thin Cut (same as Sizzlit), and it would not cut. The manufacturer sent out another (Thin Cut) die to me, but it wasn't identical to the one I had; I was kinda bummed cuz I liked it--it just didn't cut worth a darn.

Anyhoo, if your Sizzlits are in good working order, they should cut well with the adapter. They are not designed to cut through anything thicker than paper or lightweight cardstock, however. In other words, with the exception, supposedly of the new Cuttlebug dies, wafer style dies will not cut through materials thicker than lightweight card stock.

HTH,

I own the Sizzix and have Big Shot/Cuttlebug envy but I do love what I can do with my Sizzix. It works great with the Sizzlet dies, but as Julie did mention it only works on lighter weight materials such as cardstock, transparencies, vellum, etc.

As far as favorite dies goes here are some of my faves:
Paper Clips, Luggage Tag (any tag for that matter ), Charms-Flowers #1, Hinges and Clips, Clipboard, File Folder. This list could continue but being that I was trying to limit it - I'll leave it at these.

Julie made me an addict - LOL! We went on a cutting frenzy and so now I have used the Sizzix on chipboard, matte board, felt, leather, transparencies, epoxy stickers, and yes, even plalin old cardstock.

I love them all but what I use most are:
bookplates
photo turns/hinges/etc.
circles
circle frames
Hope that helps.

Does anyone know if Sizzix will come out with new large die cut alphabets (other than Lollipop & San Seriff)? I noticed so many for the Sizzlets but lacking in larger. I would like to do chipboard alphabets. Can I use dies from other companies to do this?

Hi!
I've had a Sizzix for 3 years now and just love it. One thing I did learn is that the adapter for the Sizzlets to use in the Sizzix works just fine, it has a magnet and just sticks to the machine and cut away. I had a lot of difficulty getting good cuts with the Sizzix machine and adapter for a couple of the really intricate dies, like the wind blown fence. A friend loaned me her Sizzix Sidekick while she was on vacation and wow, what a difference. It cut the the fence die so much better than the Sizzix with adapter. With a Michael's 50% off coupon and a week when Sizzix weren't on sale I picked up a Sidekick and I get better cuts with the intricate designs. For the rest of the Sizzlet dies the Sizzix and adapter work great. I like having both machines, comes in really handy.

Dies I couldn't live without - wow, that's hard.

For our DD it would be the doll dies (both sizes) and all the animal dies we've collected.

For stamping it would be the hardware type dies. I bought them so I could always have the right color for what I was doing. So I have the bookplates, the hinges, buckles, photo turn die, button sizzlets. Things like that. I also use the file folder, frames and seasonal dies a lot.

Have fun

I love my Lollipops. Other I use a lot are the star border & heart border. I especially use these for decorating small hand made albums (like 5.5X8.5).

Depends on how they're made.

Sizzix Originals, Big Shot Thick Cuts and Alphabars, and the very newly released Cuttlebug dies will ALL cut through lightweight chipboard. And, all are evidently cross compatible for use on Sizzix Original, Big Shot, and Cuttlebug die cutting machines.
