I have the old style ScorePal, the one with the 1/2" markings.
I think the "odd" (not inch or 1/2-inch) markings are used for cardmaking but I have no idea when or why I'd use them. Can someone in the know fill me in?
The markings are:
Dot at the 2 1/8" mark
Inverted triangle at the 3 11/16" mark
Dot at the 6 3/8" mark
Inverted triangle at the 7 5/16" mark
The markings at 2-1/8" and 6-3/8" are for A2 gate fold cards.
The markings at 3-11/16" and 7-5/16" are for a full sheet tri-fold.
I had the old style Scor-Pal and when they updated it I was able to get a deep discount (I want to say 40% or 50%) on the new one if I promised to donate my old one to a school or other similar craft room. (I donated mine to the resource room at our church.) Not sure if that offer is still current, but you might write to them and ask - never hurts!
Ah! These seemingly mysterious marks are actually the most INGENIOUS part of the Scor-pal!
The 2 dots are for scoring a gatefold card:
- Take a sheet of 8 /12 x 11 cardstock, cut it in half across the middle (8.5 x 5.5 piece)
- Place the longer edge (the 8.5 side) along the top rail and score at the 2 dots. You have a 4.25 x 5.5 card with perfect gatefolded front.
The 2 triangles are for folding an 8.5 x 11 sheet into perfect thirds (imagine folding up a letter to put into a business envelope). I actually use this one regularly for non-crafting purposes. My husband loves it for folding business letters, etc.
Thank you, ladies! I knew they were important markings but for the life of me I couldn't figure out their purpose. I feel a little silly now since their use is so very simple.
After I left my original post I started to wonder if there was a site for Scorepal cards and projects. I may have to do some searching after dinner.
I have the original Score Pal and use it to score the middle on every card I make. I also use it when I make boxes.
I also have the Martha board, but the grooves in it don't work as well as the ScorePal, and my bone folder has a tendency to jump out of the groove when scoring.
I don't make many gatefold cards, but I use those handy measurements on my Score Pal when I do.

Okay here's my tip for the Scor-pal....Because I have awful eyesight and on some projects I must make multiple score lines I buy the Post It Note Arrow tabs and stick them at the top of the Scor-pal to indicate which groove to use. It's a real time saver if you are doing assembly line projects. I also took a black sharpie and ran it down every inch groove to help break up all of the grooves.
