If you have room to twist them apart, I would do that. It doesn't take much effort to separate them. However, I use Wiss snips to cut mine apart, getting as close to the die as possible, so nothing will get caught on the tiny wires, especially me! If there any tiny rough spots left, you can file them or just leave as is.
I think many companies are doing this now, especially if there multiple dies in a set, so nothing will get lost
