Default ProvoCraft Sew Crafty Mini

I picked one of these up at the Salvation Army store, and I'm having a devil of a time with it. First, I'm missing the bobbin, so I have to contact ProvoCraft and see if I can buy one. Second, I'm trying to practice threading the machine, and I don't see the hole in the needle where the thread goes. I have pretty good eyes and even used a magnifying glass. Help! What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

Lisa - before you contact ProvoCraft, let me check in my basement. I have one of those demon machines and might have an extra bobbin (or it might be a standard type that you could get for less $$ locally).

As for the hole in the needle - can't help with that. I know that my eyes are older than they once were and I have the devil's own time threading my Janome Sew Mini, too - unless I set up a desk lamp right by it. One thing that might help is kind of sliding the end of your thread over a bar of soap or over a wax candle to stiffen the thread end - it makes it go thru the needle eye easier.

Lisa,
I had one of these Devil machines and could never make it work and mine was bought new at store. I would hesitate putting much money into it, but hoping you have better luck than I did. Ohh, now I feel real negative, but I do wish you luck and isn't it fun to go to a thrift store and find a treasure?

Hi again Lisa!

Ok, found my machine and the bobbin is nothing special. It's just a standard metal bobbin that you can buy anywhere.

You don't have to worry about any special size; the Sew Mini just uses a bobbin of thread instead of a spool, so as long as the bobbin fits on the post and spins, you're good to go.

THANK YOU! I appreciate the trouble ya'll went to. I must admit -- I laughed because two fellow splitcoasters called it a "devil machine." I only paid $2.99, so I'm not worried.

Love the soap on thread tip, though -- neverthought of that!

That's a good tip. Just don't forget and stick the thread in your mouth to wet the end like I usually do. You'll end up with soap in your mouth.

I have had two of these they are just junk. I threw them both out and got a full size machine for under $80.00 just for my papercrafts.
blessings.
