Sorry..I am not much of a marker girl myself..Dini might have an idea of 2 for you. I would check out the Copic threads..or type Copic Storage into the search tab over to the right of the screen..I bet a gazillion ideas will come up for you. Good storage ideas is a never ending quest for me too ..at least for my pencils.

Hi I just bought the 150 set from Amazon, is there a printable sheet that I can color in to see each of the colors?

Thanks,

Thanks so much for directing us to this chart! It is just what I needed. Now need one for Inktense! Sure wish I had read this post BEFORE typing up a list of what I owned...

Thanks so much, Dina! I will be using this shortly; already downloaded it! I have already been to Dick Blick to buy individual inktense pencils, so the stash is growing! I thought 24 pencils would be adequate, but there are no pastel colors in the 24 set. Had a good ol' time shopping-like a kid in a candy shop!

Must be something brand new, because I thought you owned everything they carry! So what goodies are you buying?? I sure wish you had the opportunity to shop at their brick and mortar store; it was sure fun looking at all their 'stuff'.

Well, Dina, I know that Inktense pencils are on my wish-list. But they haven't made it to the I-can-afford-to-buy-them-now list yet.

And since I'm so OCD, I won't be able to just buy a few at a time like Lee Ann. Rats! Maybe I should talk to myself about that one and make that possible.

I even have it figured out how to fit them into my pencil rack. Well, it requires some combining, but it will work.

So...now that I have PRINTED off the color chart...it is going to be staring me in the face. Empty. No beautiful colors. We can't have that.

I guess I need to thank you for enabling me. But I am still doing some talking to myself about buying singles...just have to find somewhere locally to buy them singly.

Now to find the money somewhere...

Diane, I started with a set of 12 and have added to my collection slowly a few at a time, so do take herat that it can be done! I don't prefer the brighter colors (my color palette is everything with an added splash of brown) so I like the option of going slower but being choosy. Shipping is always the stinker for me.

LOL! No, no, Diane! I bought a set of 24 first, now am adding to it! I ordered mine as per Dina suggested, through Dick Blick. Have fun! Hee hee!

Yeah, I'd like to go through Boone, NC to go to Cheap Joes as well! I love their watercolors! I have to be careful with the catalog...

Some people like Jerry's Artarama...but they're here in town and I hate going in there. Nothing in stock that's up to date and they can never give me an idea of when something will be. Even the website isn't up to date with new stuff. Kind of the Michaels of the art supplies world.

I've ordered quite a bit of stuff from Dick Blick as well...whoever is less expensive at the moment...them or Cheap Joe's.

I agree, Dina, shipping is a killer. Especially for only a few pencils.

Fiona..I grew up in that part of the world..CJ's was maybe an hour or so from my house..I have met Joe and he is just the sweetest man ever. He used to donate a lot of materials to art rooms in the area..I also lived near the one he has in Charlotte . Although it isn't as big, it still has the same personal feeling you get in the main one in Boone.

I am shocked at the way your Jerry's is being run. I lived at ours in Knoxville and it was always stocked..friendly etc.. I don't usually buy from them on line b/c Blick truly is one of the most reasonable places to shop. I don't have anything near me at all now..except for an M's and an AC Moore so I buy most of my supplies on line.

All that to say..you should def. go to Cheap Joes LOL..the town is great too!

Hi all. I colored this image just using pencils; no gamsol, etc. Could it use more shadowing, definition, color? Any comments are surely welcome

This is absolutely charming and you have done a great job! Some shadowing would improve it a bit as it will give more depth, but it is also wonderful as is.

For instance, a darker shade along the bottom edge of the lower two flowers.

Then, I would add a shadow on the left end of the mouse's muzzle, as the flower would be casting a shadow on the mouse's face. Maybe a little shadow on the face where the hand is in front.

Hope that helps, you are doing really well!
Lynne

Yes, thank you Lynne! I could tell by looking at it that it was off. I thought it had to do with the flowers but I never thought about his face. I used your suggestions and it did help. It is my first attempt w/o gamsol so I just wasn't sure about it. so once again, thank you!!

Good tips, Lynne! Adding a pale blue background to your image will make it really pop too. This sample is done with markers, but to give you a visual of what I mean...

That looks great Julie. I love how you did the fur. I have been trying my hand at Prismacolors for a few months now. I don't use gamsol as it gives me a headache. I struggle to get realistic images. Maybe I should try some animals. You did such a good job you have given me some inspiration

I usually use gamsol but I just didn't want to breathe it. I've had a couple bouts of pneumonia in the last few months so I didn't want to add insult to injury! I have been meaning to try it with color layers anyway so this was a good time to start. Thanks for the positive comments!

I use a colorless blender pencil because I don't like the smell of the gamsol. It works quite well for me.

here is one of my cards....using the blender pencil....

Julie, I really don't have any advice to offer as I am too new with Prismas, but this is adorable and I love how you have colored the flowers.

Dina, I think that in your spare time (hee hee!)creating a video on how to color backgrounds would be fantastic! I just finished coloring an image with pencil, and it does not look complete with the white background. I am very unsure of how to go about laying down some color. I thought about a watercolor wash, after watching your latest resist tutorial, but I would prefer learning how to make Prisma and Copic backgrounds. I also thought about trying the technique of Ms Leopold in the video you sent me, but I am afraid to start splotching Gamsol on the paper for fear of smearing the completed image.

OK - that's a fun idea - I have a few different ways that I do backgrounds with different mediums, but I probably fall back to the same theory visually each time - I'll have to video myself doing it and then watch to see what it is I'm doing. Hee!! Thanks for the idea. I have amassed a little unsolicited YouTube following, so I must be doing something right!

Thanks for commenting on my image! And I agree, a little video from Dina would be most helpful!

I usually just use chalks for my backgrounds. I find them quick and easy to apply with either a cotton bud or a ball of cottton wool. They give a nice "soft" looking background.

Aarrgghhhhh... spent this morning videoing myself coloring 6 different images with 3 different mediums, and showing different techniques for backgrounds and grounding images. When I watched them back, there is a terrible glare on some portions of the pencil and watercolor portions - you almost can't even see what I was doing. So frustrating! Anyway, maybe I still have enough to work with - or I may redo those portions... but here are half my before and afters - they're sort of fun to see side by side. More in the next post....

Here are the rest. 1-2 are done with Touch Twin Markers, 3-4 with Prismacolor pencils, 5-6 with Derwent and Faber Castell watercolor pencils.

They are lovely Dini. The backgrounds certainly do add to the effect.

Oh goodness; these are all absolutely adorable, Dina! It is really neat seeing them as befores and afters-You can really see the difference and how the background makes the image come to life. So how do you determine where your horizon line will be-or should I just patiently wait for the video/
Looks like you have a combo of mediums- 1 pencil, several markers, a couple of water color? I really like the one with I think it is what Lydia calls, Boka effect (?)
Thanks! This already helps!
