OK, here is the skinny on the pencil cases... I'm glad I wrote, and impressed with this response and Blick's service in general, which is why they continually get my business.... ahem... I may or may not have placed *another* order after I got mine last week...

Hello Dina.

I spoke with someone at Global Art Materials, and she advised that there was a design change to all sizes of these pencil cases last year. The intention was to actually make it easier to get pencils in and out of the case, so it’s not too surprising that your friend preferred this new design.

Right now we have a mix of the old and new designs for most sizes, except for item 22996-8048, the Pencil Case for 48 Pencils in Antique Brown, item 22996-2096, the Pencil Case for 96 Pencils in Smooth Black, and item 22996-8120, the Pencil Case for 120 Pencils in Antique Brown, which are all new, and item 22996-8096, the Pencil Case for 96 Pencils in Antique Brown, which we only have in the old design. If you or a friend should happen to want to order one of the new design in a size where our stock is mixed, you can specify with an order taker over the phone or in “Special Instructions” in our online checkout that you only want the ones with the single row of elastic.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I’m going to let our buyer for this product know that we need to take some new photos for our website and catalogs.

I have only ordered from them one time but I was also really impressed. I love that they answers you like you have a brain, and that they gave an honest and detailed answer. I thought it might have to do with making getting the pencils in and out more easily.

Thanks for doing the research!

They are a great company aren't they? I'm so glad you shared their response, because I will be needing another one soon. I'm in the process of developing a product for sale, if it works out I'll have more money for art materials

May or may not have... hee heee

OK, hereit is - officially my first card made with a Prisma colored image. I know she's far from perfect but it was fun! I welcome constructive criticism, always.

Also, I feel like the photo was too... close or the lighting was weird or something. So many techniques to practice.

That is awesome Tiffany. The colors you have chosen are my favorites. I think you did an excellent job with your coloring. I especially like the color choice and shading on her face and hair.

I haven't posted any of my card here recently....but, thought I would share. I really like how these turned out with my pencils and colorless blender pencil. I've been mentioning the colorless blender pencil on my cards...thanks for the suggestion!

These are all so great, Suzy! Much closer to what I am normally drawn to than the style I just posted . The staging of your photos makes a big difference too. And of course the coloring is fab.

Great work with your colorless blender pencil Suzy. Your cards look beautiful. I have used the colorless blender pencil, but it never seems to really do too much of anything. I don't know if I am doing it wrong or if I need to lay down thicker color. I think I will search this thread to see what info I can find after seeing your beautiful work.

Suzy - I forgot to mention I love the look you got with the blender pencil. I have one but haven't tried it out yet. I'll have to do that!

Thank you all for your encouragement, I really appreciate it. I am pretty critical of myself and I know I have a long way to go but it was fun.

Mary - you are crazy! I am sure if you watched a few tutorials you'd be better than I am, I'm just starting out. I love the cards on your gallery, btw. Welcome!

Thanks, Tiffany. I do my pictures outside. Sometimes I feel like I'm chasing the cards with the wind....or the kitties think they need to be up helping!

Thanks so much. I blend with the pencil after each color....and probably put it on a little heavier at times. Like with the butterfly card. But, the color really popped after blending.

Thank you....I've been looking at some vintage cards. Figured this set was perfect for it. I still have a few more to get done. I'll post them when I'm done.

Heart Prismacolor 150 Color Chart Awesomeness!

Hey everybody -
I was looking for a way to manage my prismacolor collection since I did not start out with the 150 case. I found this awesome color chart that has all the colors. My plan is to color in the pencils that I have so that at a quick glance I can see what pencils I need to buy. I'm so excited I had to share.
Here's the link to the pdf: https://www.artspan.com/images/other...or150Chart.pdf

Enjoy!

Have you ever tried lightly layering all your colors and then using the blending pencil to work all the layers together? Here's a small sample of what that looks like...

I have been using the old stampin up pencils and their chaulk. I have not been able to use markers and blend them. I wish I could be good at one of these techniques!

Suzy - I have an almost 5 year old so I know the feeling! It's way too hot to color outside here right now. I really need to get some better lighting but it will have to wait until we move. :/

Mary - Thanks for the link! Dina K and a few other people have done various charts in ROYGBIV order too, if you search the thread for 'chart' they should come up. Great resource though!

Ranalouwho - I'm no good with markers either, and I decided to spend the money on nice pencils instead of a fewer number of copics. Maybe someday though! Reading through this thread will give you some great pencil ideas, links to tutorials, etc. I'm not sure what kind of pencils the SU ones are or if they will work with the blending techniques we talk about here, but you can definitely practice shading which is the hard part.

Dina K - Thanks for posting that picture. I'll have to try the blender pencil for sure now - I like that look!

Hi there! Here's a tutorial in the resource section that may give you some ideas for pencil shading and choosing colors:

I've seen a chart similar to that one before with pencils on it. It seemed like every chart I saw had an error or two on it so I just made my own. Then Dini and I were talking about color families and how they looked so pretty in rainbow order, so I reordered a chart in rainbow order. That's the one I use while coloring. I use the number order one for inventory purpose.

I have a couple tutorials on my blog with info. I've collected from all over the place:

Marti, are the polycolors more creamy in texture as you lay down the color?
The last image reminds me of Dr. Seussville Who makes that stamp?

I really like that image, and this is quite a compliment because I'm not usually drawn to whimsical. It's very cool!

I have to agree - I follow your blog, Marti and it makes me want to learn Zentangles (which is the style of your doodling, right?) and buy those houses! Not my usual style either, but they are SO CUTE. I have to wait until we get moved to buy ANYTHING ELSE though.

oh tiffany you made my day! i am always wondering if anyone reads my blog or if i should keep doing it and thank you to you and sc both - i am glad you like the stamps! the zentangling/doodling i have been playing with HAS been fun but i have yet to feel it as relaxing like most describe! hahaha! i get very tense and have a lot of difficulty with my hand shaking.

I should comment there more often! It's on my RSS Reader actually, so I see any new posts the same day .

I really love the look of that style of doodling but I have never been 'good' at doodling (it's just a mess) and I think I would be anxious about it being good enough and it would not be relaxing for me either!
