I discovered the same thing. I now use Georgia Pacific White Card Stock...110 weight from Walmart. The ink I use is memento...usually the tuxedo black. It works perfect with my Prismacolor pencils and my colorless blender pencil. The ink doesn't smear at all.

i am thinking the paper is too smooth. i use rangers archival ink and have never had it smear. i use PTI stampers select and it works pretty well tho it is still a bit smooth...

I think you should only use Stazon ink with Prismas, that's all I ever use and I also use the SU Whisper White a lot of the time.

Cerridwen,
These are so lovely. The highlights just make it I need to keep working on my highlighting.

I went to Cerridwen's site, which sent me to Color Me Creative Classroom. I can't find a challenge anywhere, just offering classes. Did I miss something?

hi all! thanks for the posting cheri. YES the challenge will be on the color me creative website - as of now they have a copic only challenge group. if you want to play you can and you can enter your pencil project on the copic challenge group - there is a great prize too BTW. suzanne will be setting up a group just for us over the weekend for the next challenge. their current challenge is to color non-traditional hair colors and it ends this evening. and then if everyone can help spread the word to other pencil enthusiasts - i know we're out there - that would be awesome!

ok - get out your colored pencils folks - we've got prizes!!!

Suzanne has posted the next challenge at color me creative and the prizes up for grabs are AMAZING!
  • it is a holiday challenge - use gold, cream and white (things like hair color and stuff on your image are exempt just the project itself must be those colors)
  • the challenge runs through jan 5th.
  • prizes include a cricut mini, a kindle reader, gift certificates
  • there are 4 different ways to enter
  • there is also a charity fund raising drive going on too

let's see how many pencil folks we can get! when you upload your photo on cmc be sure to make a note if you used colored pencils - the tag when you upload is sparkle, perhaps add pencils too so we can easily find you!

if you want more details you can see them on my blog

on another note - i got my giant dick blick catalog in the mail yesterday and have been slowly browsing through it ever since - well guess what - there are 18 "new" colors! altho some are not really new - they brought the deco colors back (yay!) now there are 150 colors total! looks like i need to place an order!

I saw that card when I visited your blog last night. I love it! I just got an order from Dick Blick last week- more prismas of course! I even have a few more colors on my Christmas list! Wasn't it me who said, "I really don't need any more colors 100 are quite enough?" lol

The Stampin' Up! Whisper White is specially designed with a lot of sizing in the paper, which allows it to hold up to some water, like painting with reinkers. But this can gum up with other techniques. It is a GREAT paper for playing with your Distress Inks!

Try using a waterproof ink like Jet Black Archival maybe or an India Ink pad? Versafine is an oil based pigment ink, so the gamsol solvent will surely "melt" it.

I like using the cheapo Georgia Pacific card stock from Wal-Mart for Prismas and Gamsol, but there are probably better paper options. I discovered my blending problems were because I was not laying down enough Prismacolor before blending with the Gamsol. Since then, the cheaper paper is working fine for me

Hope this helps!

Great minds... Doesn't the chart look pretty all colored in? Do you put your chart in color families too? I didn't until Dini shared hers and wow! I really use it a lot while I am coloring. It helps me to see what the colors really look like instead of just looking at the pencils in their case.

Oh cool - thank you SO much. I will print it out and get busy colouring. I've been meaning to do my own chart for a year but as soon as I go to my Craft Room, I just get distracted and hadn't got around to it. Thanks again!

I looked at your chart and said to myself, "all on one page - landscape duh me!"

It has always bothered me to have to keep turning the page in my colored pencil book while I'm working as my chart took up two pages.

Soooo being the silly little OCD girl that I am, I went back to my chart and changed to landscape - all on one page yeah!

thanks Cerridwen

My chart is in the Colored Pencil Tutorial on my blog.

Now that I'm looking at all my colors on one page, I'm wondering if I need some more blues? (Dini I hear you laughing)

What do you use blues with? Which are your favorites?

I don't have all the colors because I try to be practical and thrifty. Some colors are so very similar, for example:
  • blue lake a caribbean sea
  • rosy beige and clay rose
  • periwinkle and mediterranean blue
  • celadon green and jade green

What do you do with such similar colors?

Here are the colors I have - Do you have any suggestions for must have colors?

i was thinking about how similar some of the colors are when i was re-coloring my new chart and yet the thought of doing away with any of them makes me twitch!

2 i notice you don't have that i like and use alot, especially in skin tones are nectar and sand. as for the blues i think you are ok there other than maybe denim blue which i really like....

I thought I had to have Denim blue for jeans etc, but I much prefer Indigo blue for jeans. I certainly find that I use some colors a lot more than others and although I have about 120 pencils (just because I HAD to have them) there are a lot I don't use much at all.

I really wish they had a really-dark-almost-black blue.

My longest pencils are the true greens, blues and purples. I tend to like everything a little more tertiary in general... funny that way. I never use neon either.

I love my Muted Turquoise and my Powder Blue. I don't venture beyond those too too much. My go-to colors are in a chart in this post:

Thank you for the chart. I have one other one that I use but having the colors grouped together is so handy.

Thanks for the feedback on the SU Whisper White, and for the color charts that have been shared. Both very helpful.

I placed an order with Dick Blick for some replacement pencils and the new colors, and so got 2 shipments, first the ones in stock, and then the new ones when they came in. In both boxes the pencils were in a plastic bag on the bottom of the box, with plastic bags filled with air on top. As fragile as the Prismacolors are it seems to me that wasn't very practical, and I'm thinking about calling and suggesting they wrap the pencils in bubblewrap in the future. I wanted to see what others thought about it first though. Anyone have problems with the cores being broken with the way they ship them?

Ok ladies I have a few questions if you don't mind giving me a hand here. First how many colors of Prisma pencils are there? I got the 150 set from Dick Blick. Well actually my husband bought it for me for Christmas. I actually get them today since we are having our Christmas tonight with our family. They all came sharpened. Where can I get individual pencils. I have a Mike's and Hobby Lobby but they are about 40 miles away. We have no art supply stores close to us. I live in a rural community in NE Missouri. I have been using Crayola colored pencils and gamasol. When I decided I liked this coloring medium I wanted the Prismas. I am a Copic person and I love them but pencils give a different look. They can be so beautiful. So any help with my questions would be appreciated.

SC Magnolia I will be getting those images out to you soon. Just been too busy with the holidays! I'm sure you know all about that.

Blick also has the individual pencils - there are currently 150 available, but there are some other colors 'out there' that have been retired that you may see on other charts and lists. That is soooooo great that your pencils came sharpened! You will love them!
