Hey great idea why didn't I think of that earlier. I have been diligently stamping on drawing block to practice.

Don't like the smell of even the odourless spirit. When the wind is still I can smell it. Thinking of changing to baby oil. Is there any difference in the blended effect between using spirit and baby oil?

I find that OMS blends faster and smoother, but both work quite well. I don't like the smell of OMS either, faint though it is. I use an eco friendly version called Zest-It made from orange oil, so the only odor is of oranges. It works beautifully, with the side benefit that I don't stress out if my little monsters try sticking their fingers in it.

Zest-It is only sold in Europe, but they do ship to the US. However, Dick Blick carries a similar product from Eco-House.

Zest-it:
Zest-it Art Products - Zest-it Parchment Blend for blending coloured pencil and pastels n parchment or velum.

The sponge is awesome, but you should get a spare refill bottle as I find it to be a little on the dry side.

Eco-House:
Eco-House 115 Extra-Mild Citrus Cleaner - BLICK art materials

What do you girls use to keep ur loose ones? I got the 72 set but find that the pinks and purples are insufficient for me. I an a sucker for these colours. So I bought a few as well as a shade of blue.

I appreciate all the great information everyone gives. There are some very creative people here! Dini, I love your work and remember you from last year.

Everything I know about coloring I learned on-line and here. I LOVE doing it! I wondered if anyone would like to give me feedback on how I'm doing and what I can do to improve it? I need to work on my photo taking, but these are a couple I recently did. Thanks! Kathy
Those are darling! Fabulous job on the coloring!!!!

I have a couple of the shorter plastic Crystal Lite containers I altered that I have on my desk with extras in.

Some where I saw a thing Tim uses made from PVC pipe. It isn't all that pretty, but I can see where it would be super handy. The pipes are different heights and I think different diameters.

I keep mine in Global leather pencil cases, sorted to match my coloring chart.

Default Pencil Case

I purchased one some time ago at Hobby Lobby using a 40% off coupon. It's really handy when I can keep shades of green, etc. together.

everything i tried only worked until the pencils started getting short so now i just group them by color family and put a hair rubber band around them.

I think they are very pretty! lol. One is made from old wormy chestnut and the other two are made from mahogany. The diameters are the same... 1" but I do use two different heights. But they come out easily and I just changed some to the lower height.

I happen to have bought a similar system made out of heavy duty plastic BUT it was kind of pricey and I needed two because Hello my name is Lorraine and I'm a colored pencil addict. I don't want to say where I got them because I want you to make yours and sell them. And....for anybody who doesn't want it to be brown/wood colored, just get some paints or whatever and decorate them to have the look you want. Ok Tim, that will be a 10% commission on all of your sales - LOL.

cute idea tim - the decorating possibilities are endless! so what do you do with your pencils once they get short? do they get lost in there?

They make pencil extenders you can use. When they get really stumpy, and you don't mind an extra long pencil, just super glue the flat end of the stub to a new pencil. Eventually, you'll just sharpen past the glue spot.

I use plain old super glue. It only takes a little dab. I've never had any problems sharpening through it. I've also used to to glue a broken tip back into a problem pencil.

I haven't tried the super glue yet. I need to. Mine can hold a 2 1/2" pencil, after that I have a little box I put them in.

I would just love one of those Global Classic pencil cases! Can't find them here in Australia though. I see one at a place called Cheap Joe's Art Stuff and it's only $29.99. I have emailed and asked a shipping price but have not heard back yet. It was late Saturday when I emailed so maybe I will hear this week. I would live to get it before we head off in our caravan for 6 weeks touring the northern (warmer) parts of Australia!

OMGOSH! Tim I am so embarrassed. I didn't mean it to sound like it was a put down or anything. I thought it was super creative way to have all of your pencils handy or I wouldn't have mentioned it.

I have flagged Tim's solution for a future reference....right now I have the wallet that holds 132. I have used the PVC pipe pieces to make a storage system for my Stickles etc.

I finally broke down and purchased Zest-it and it is on it's way to me. My migraines have been getting worse lately and with DH's algeries...I figured it was about time - even though the shipping was more than the product!

I bought Gina K OMS and I found the smell really strong and carried through the house. I then bought Gamsol and I really can't smell it but, I really didn't want to take a chance triggering another headache. I read the Zest-it is based on citrus oils with no chemicals and a slight citrusy smell.

Zest-It rocks! Ever eaten an orange and found your hands smelled of oranges an hour later? That faint scent is what you get from Zest-It. I agree that the shipping is stupid priced though. That's the only draw back I've found so far.
