Marti, your card is just darling......

I put an order in at Dick Blick for the Derwent Inktense set, and am anxious to get them. I mainly use my Primas, and play with various brands of watercolor pencils as well when I'm not using my Copic markers. I figure I have all these other mediums that I ought to mix it up once in a while so I don't let these other products go to waste!!!

Just thought I would drop in to say "Hello!"
@ Tim~~I will be curious to see how you like the Derwent studios, I have a set of them, but find them verrrrrry hard. I ususally layer them over my Prisma's. I live about 90 miles south of Tampa, the weather is HOT, so hope you enjoyed!
@Jo, that image was so beautiful, I decided to order some PB stamps! Now I need to color like you!
@Dini~~I have become an Impression/Obsession fan. Just received the Victorian house you did, and BTW, the mime image and coloring was AWESOME!
@Marti, don't you just LOVE LOTV????? They are the most darling stamps!
I'm working on a few things now, might post later on in the week~~Hope everyone has a great week!

cheri, i find the derwent studio too hard for my liking also but i have not tried layering them over the prismas. and YES i LOVE LOTV - i need to branch out my stamping a bit more i think - i get so many with DT work that i am overwhelmed but i feel i need some variety...

Try using a craft knife to sharpen your pencils instead of a sharpener. They don't break as easily.

here are some images i have been working on - part of a new release at SCACD. the girl peeking into the bird bath uses the pencils i was experimenting with - dress is polychromos, the greens are caran d'ache pablo (a little too hard for my tastes) and the birdbath is caran d'ache luminance - the luminance are delicious but too pricey for me for now....the girl in purple is all prisma.

i used cryogen white for the birdbath girl and brockway for the ballerina. i also used the Derwent colorless blender - i like it MUCH better than the prisma blender pencil!

Marti, your Peepers are just beautiful!!! I just rec'd my Inktense in the mail today, and am anxious to try them. Has anyone used them with OMS? How do they work with that?

I've been taking Suzanne's copic classes, and have been so "into" those, that I thought I'd play a bit with these when I saw the ad for your class Marti, and see about signing up for it when I finish my other two with Suzanne..... Never hurts to be diverse, huh??? I used to do the other mediums before I got the copics, so it's like getting back to my basics.

Inktense pencils do blend with OMS... but the colors won't be as vivid as with water blending... in the sample below, the top swatch is blended with OMS, and the bottom swatch is blended with water. Still... pretty vivid, and it's cool that you can use them either way!

Thanks, Dina for the sample. I thought the versatility of these would be good. The comments from others on various threads, along with blogs (like yours) are so helpful.

Your work, by the way is so beautiful. I feel like I can lose myself in the pictures, they're so peaceful and inviting. But then, that's what a beautiful watercolor does to me, it moves me so.... It's a medium that is unlike any other, the way the color puddles and fades, moves even outside the lines, begging you to go with it..... I love it!!!

Cool bananas Dini - I didn't know you could blend Inktense pencils with OMS - I guess I just never thought to try assuming that they wouldn't! I just bought a set of Derwent Inktense pencils and have been madly watercolouring with them. Now I have another 72 colours to add to my Prismas - woo hoo!

I am using Memento Tuxedo Black ink for EVERYTHING now. I love it and I can stamp images ahead of time and not worry about what I can use to color the images. It does not bleed or smear with ANYTHING! I use Gamsol, watercolor pencils, and even copics with Memento and I have NO problems.

For white card stock to stamp images on, I now use Neenah Classic Crest Avalanche White 80lb. cover. It's great and I can use that for everything, too.
Wal-Mart carries a paper by Georgia Pacific. It is 110 weight and has 150 sheets to a pack around $5. It is 8 1/2 by 11 in size. That is the cheapest heavy paper I have found. I go through so much white paper and this is a cheap way to get a lot of white paper.

I just got my Prismacolors that I ordered from Carpe Diem today. Can you believe it? Most of them are from Mexico and...I haven't had a chance to compare them to the ones I have from the USA....BUT, they came presharpened. Now how wonderful was that! Here I was all prepared to sit down and sharpen for days (as I ordered 132 set).

Okay, ladies let me ask your opinions.... I currently have a set of 24 prisma pencils and I LOVE them. So, my anniversary is right around the corner and I have told my DH that I would like a bigger set. Should I ask for the set of 72 or should I go for something bigger? What is your suggestions?

I was teaching at a LSS so I got the 120 set, and glad I did. Of course, I also got it at 50% off, which was great; and I love them, good investment!!!

I think Michael's carries that set, and will sometimes have that 50% coupon as well, or at least the 40%. They may even honor JoAnns coupons too. You may want to try that as an option or others depending on where you live.......Good luck!!!

Kristy, I had the 48 set and wanted more so, I took advantage of the 50% of sale at Michaels and paid $120.00 for the 120 set. Then I found the 132 on Amazon.com (via Carpe Diem) for $95.99. I ordered them on April 5th and got them yesterday. I returned the other set to Michaels. I am really glad I got the 132 set. They color beautifully and came pre-sharpened...which was a bonus!

Doea anyone know if there is a chart out there that I could use to convert Copic tutorials to the best possible color matches with Prismacolor Pencils?

Kristy, I bought the full 120 set of Prismas and haven't regretted it as I have such a fantastic colour range to choose from. I also purchased the additional 12 colours singly that Prisma make - so I have a set of 132.

hi all!
finally got some playing done with the new polychromos - they arrived saturday. the first thing i did was make up a coloring chart and then i colored this set of bunnies for some easter cards that i had on my desk. i printed them on Papertrey Ink rustic cream cardstock and really like it for coloring too!

the pencils are dee-lish - slightly more blendy and creamy than prismas. BUT one drawback - there's not much in the pale color range which seems a bit odd.... the bunnies weren't finished when i took this pic. these will be appearing in an article i am doing for Craft Critique later this month.

the pencils are dee-lish - slightly more blendy and creamy than prismas. BUT one drawback - there's not much in the pale color range which seems a bit odd.... the bunnies weren't finished when i took this pic. these will be appearing in an article i am doing for Craft Critique later this month.
Gorgeous pictures - the bunny is adorable! Make sure you post the finished pics - I would love to see them. What stamp is the bunny?

{happy sigh} - is there nothing more delicious than a new pack of pencils? Ahh, they smell so good.....and when you open the pack to see them all sitting there looking pretty, they just make my heart sing! Yes, I'm a little nutty about pencils.....

BTW Dini, I am waiting on Dick Blick to get back to me about the cost of shipping some Faber Castell Albrecht Durer pencils to Australia (I mentioned your name in the email to them). The cost of the full set is less than half of what it costs here and with the exchange rate US$ to $Australian being so fabulous, it makes it even more tempting!!

OK, you made me want to pull out my Polycolors to play... I still haven't tried them out yet! Sorry to throw yet another option out there! the Polycolors are by Lyra and they are oil-based. Glad I'm not the only hopeless pencil addict in the world... the smell, the sharpness, pretty colors all in a chromatic row.....
