Jennifer - I think they both look great, but I agree, the one on the left has a little more dimension to it! I love both images! I haven't bought any of them.....yet!

Thanks! I am happy with my 1st try at them You NEED to get some pencils! hahah
Well here is my first coloring with the pencils.. I like the one on the left better. The one on the right I colored it full and just blended on top, where as the one on the left I just pulled in the color. TFL!
Looks good! Yeah the one on the left does look better. Keep on coloring!!
Here's a pear I used in my coloring class last week.
I used:
938 white
915 lemon yellow
912 apple green
923 scarlet lake
939 peach
945 sienna brown (stem)
1052 warm grey 30% (background)
I stamp the images in advance of class and everyone got 4 pear images. I walk them through the first one step by step/color by color so they can see how I layer and combine the different colors. This is the image we use to make a card or some other project (in this case, a teabag holder). Then they are free to color the rest of their images any way they want. Some chose to use the same colors. Others chose other color combinations. I encouraged my students to "Go Andy Warhol" and make pop art pears. It was so much fun! I need to remember to take my camera with me to class.
In order to keep class costs to a minimum, I try to select colors within the set of 24 Prismas. Some of the students have bigger sets than that. But to get started and to take my class, everyone has to have at minimum the set of 24. If I use a color outside the set of 24, we just share. This is just our 2nd class and it has worked well.
These are what I use:
I have 2 of the largest ones for my Prismas and other regular pencils (holds 120), and one more smaller one (96?) for watercolor pencils. They are perfect for traveling. I've gotten mine from Dick Blick: http://www.dickblick.com/products/gl...-pencil-cases/
These ones are made by Global Classic - they are really nice. My watercolor pencils I just leave right in the case and pick up pigment from the pencil with a waterbrush - don't even have to take them out. The color of the leather varies, I guess - all 3 of mine are brown and 3 different colors!
Here is how I decided to store my pencils on my desk. I bought these 2 a while ago in target dollar spot to store other items. I like how they are each divided into 4 sections so I have 8 spots! I grouped the pencils by color..

Jennifer, That is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks ladies.. I have to have "homes" for all my toys since my room is really small.. I like it because it just sits on my desk and easy for me to see what range of colors I have in each color

That is a great idea. I am always searching through my container for the right colors!
PS thanks mr hambo and doggonecrafts for your very sweet and much appreciated comments on my daffodil.
Good morning! Well, afternoon now! I just got home from walking dogs at the humane society, then taking my own dog to the vet. Hopefully NOW, I can sit down and start some card creations!
Have a nice day everyone!
One of my favorite pencil artists is Terry Medaris
My attempt after learning his technique. I'll never be as good as Terry, but I really love his bold use of color.
stamphappy1650, love your "attempt"! I think I'm also going to try out the blending technique without the gamsol. Though I like blending with gamsol, I find that it takes away the sheen (or the wax) which kind of disappoints me.
WOW...I just got my set of pencils...132 of them. I also ordered the OMS and a jar for them...blender pencils and stumps...it's all here, arrived by courier!!
Now...I'm amazed at all the pencils...I'm definitely going to have to find a storage solution for them. There are too many to leave in the tin and I think it would be best sorted by color.
Can't wait to go play...oh I have to sharpen first. I bought the sharpener to go with them but I also have an electric one so I'll have to see which works best.

Woohoo! Yes, sharpening the lot of them is the big job. I did all of mine by hand with the little sharpener in the tin and got a blister for my troubles.

Hi Everyone I found this thread last week and wow...I have lots of reading to catch up on!
I've had my pencils for 2 years today actually, lol. My daughters friend lived with us the last semester of their senior year, she didn't want to move in the middle of the year with her parents who were being transfered to Guam. Anyhow, she had to have the 120 set for art class. When she moved out for college, she gave me her pencils...explaining that they wouldn't travel well (as talked about earlier with the leads breaking). Anyhow, I've since purchased 11 out of the 12 new ones, one of the blues is always out when I go to the store for it.
I love my pencils, though I'm not very talented with them, just pretty basic. I was using a paint thinner that gave me a massive headache upon opening (lived in a small town at the time and had access to nothing) then went on to trying the baby oil technique which worked ok for me then. A friend gave me a bottle of Mona Lisa OMS last year and what a difference that made!!! No more headaches and much easier to blend with (IMHO).
Thank-you for starting this thread and sharing such great information.
