Warning on SU Owl Punch

Okay ---we have been told and told to use the SU Owl Punch as well as other new ones flat on a surface and not hold them. Well ---they are right! I stamped the Owl stamp and went to punch the owl and held it UP in my hand to squeeze and punch it ---well, not only pinched my finger --but also my belly! Actually got a cut in my stomach from it!! Guess --should tell me I have a couple inches to get rid of! LOL Anyway ---lesson learned! Only use new style of SU punches flat on a surface!! If this saves just one more person from pinching their belly..........

One of my friends got her belly using the Cropadil!!!

Ridiculously Obsessed 06-25-2011 10:26 AM

Ouch...think that would hurt worse!! But --trying to picture that and cannot! LOL

Good Heavens!!!! Gutting by punch! LOL. Hope it gets better soon. I use them all the time in just my hands and haven't been pinched yet. Guess I've been lucky. I have heard that the new triple punches need to be put on the table to be used. I tried my demo's triple punch and it does work much better by putting it on the table and pressing down. Hope nobody else gets injured while punching!

Ouch! Yes you have to be careful with the new punches if you punch them upside down. I've gotten my hand quite a few times. Not a fan of the new design although I love the actual punched out shapes!!!!

Yes, the punching on a stable surface works nicely and saves your body parts from getting pinched, but if you want to punch out an image that you've already stamped, punching upside down is a necessity.

You could if you knew her, she is just the person to do something like that!

Oh my goodness! I've pinched my arm with the cupcake punch before...:( I hope you're alright!! :)

I've used the new punches upside down on a flat surface. I line of the stamped images then push down on the outer edge. This method works for me. Yes, I did pinch portions of my hand when using them upside down and not on a flat surface. Just make sure, after you line the images up, not to move you c/s by accidentally hitting it - done that too. I like the images the punches make but the punch itself is heavier than the old style.

If you had to get medical aid, what would you tell the medical staff???

Good luck.

Thanks for the warning! ;) I've also used the new punches upside down to stamp, and like that they store flat, but much prefer the old style for punching...

:) Thanks for making me smile!

I am looking for ideas using the Owl Builder punch. Can you give me some? Thank you.

lovemycards 01-01-2012 09:47 AM

Thanks to posts like these, I have managed to not punch myself all the time that I've owned the new style punches (since they came out). :)

jwarhank: you can make so many things with the owl punch. It's one of my most versatile punches. You can make penguins, ghosts, monsters, pigs, bats, roses, reindeer, turkey, etc.

Wow...the hand I have pinched, but have never even come close to the arm and stomach(belly) and hope that I never will....too funny lol...!!

Yes, at a stamp a stack I was having a customer gave herself a mammogram! Ouch!

I managed to pinch my finger pretty good with the new style of hole punch by EK Success. This one will lock closed at well, and I wasn't used to the way the moving parts functioned. I had that mark on my finger for a month.

As accident prone as I am, I think I will avoid these new punches, lol!

I have a mark on my thumb from the owl punch. I wondered what I was doing wrong. Who know you needed to read the instructions to use a punch:)

winnieu 10-11-2012 05:29 PM

Ouch!Thanks for sharing the warning!

gr8cards 10-11-2012 07:55 PM

I have an old punch that still cuts beautifully but only if I put it on the floor and step on it. Whatever it takes........

Kate Stamps 10-12-2012 07:15 PM

I used a punch and caught my hand, but the best story I've heard is when a member of my stamp club caught a tiny piece of her breast!!! Yep, she had quite a bruise and vowed to NEVER do that again.
