Which machine should I get????

I really want to get a die cut machine. I saw Michael's has several different ones but don't know which is better. Cuttlebug, Bigkicks, sizzix.... I was considering the BigShot from SU but now I have this 40 percent off coupon for Michael's. Any suggestions??

Rosiebudstamp 01-19-2013 05:24 AM

I have my ♥cuttlebug, Electric Big Shot, and my hubby got me a Grand Calibar....my go to machine is usually the cuttlebug...but I have the old shrek green one

Leeann34 01-19-2013 06:49 AM

I had a big shot but I sold it because I couldn't get the hang of it, but I regret it now. I'm thinking I would get a Cuttlebug though and probably soon.

PS. You might want to read the fine print on your coupon, it may exempt die cut machines, especially anything from Provocraft. If it's good, please let me know so I can find a coupon and run to M's today :)

Bellegirl 01-19-2013 06:58 AM

I have both a Cuttlebug and a Big Shot. I love them both and use both. However, I do find the CB easier and just a bit quicker to use. I probably use it with almost every card I make because I like embossed backgrounds and use them most often. Yet, the BS will do things the CB can't as it's a bigger machine. So..if I had to pick just one machine, given my usage, the CB would basically work for for me. If you are into a lot of bigger dies though, the BS is the way to go and it's a nice sturdy machine.

Leeann34 01-19-2013 07:02 AM

I just googled and couldn't find that what I previously said was true. Apparently you can use a coupon on either machine :)

dzuckerman 01-19-2013 07:40 AM

Thank you ladies. One more question. If I go with any of the machines from Michael's, am I able to use the big shot dies in them? Or do I only use the dies sold specifically for those machines?

horseygal 01-19-2013 08:35 AM

I love my Big Shot~ You can do any die with it!
I also have the Vagabond and Cricut. I like them all for different purposes, but if I could only have one machine, it would be the Big Shot.

This is one of the best videos I've seen to explain the machines. It's long so grab a cup of coffee!

Awsome youtube video. So much info. Thank you for this. I believe I will be getting the big shot. Seems to be the more versatile machine. To avoid disappointment, I called up Michael's to make sure I can use the coupon towards the bigshot. Thank goodness...I can. :D

Hallupino 01-19-2013 12:41 PM

Enjoy! I love my BigShot, especially since I never have to worry about compatibility issues with any brand of die or embossing folder. It works with everything!

happigirlcorgi 01-19-2013 05:58 PM

Good luck with the choices... I chose the Cuttlebug after much contemplation because I had to think about what I wanted to use the cut images for...
I have bought a few of the Sizzix/Big Shot dies as well as Memory Box, Spellbinders, and so on. You can use different "recipes" to stack each die and cutting board to make everything work. I love my cuttlebug.

I am looking at a JoAnn coupon. It states....Offer excludes previous purchases, purchase of.....all paper crafting machines, cartridges & dies....

The Michael's coupon does not exclude paper crafting machines but does exclude ...Cricut brands (the new Cuttlebug embossing folders now are labelled Cricut Cuttlebug so are excluded from use of a coupon)

I bought myself a Cuttlebug as my first paper crafting die cutting machine. Love it and still have it. I have been given a Big Shot and Vagabond and use them also.

Can't help it- love them all and use them all!

I wonder if I can use my educator discount with the Michael's coupon. That would be a nice discount.

DianeinSparks 01-19-2013 07:29 PM

I have both a Cuttlebug and Big Kick [same as Big Shot] and like them both. The Cuttlebug is easier to move around and you can take it with you easily; I use it mostly for my embossing folders. I found that the Big Kick does a better job cutting intricate dies and it's a much heavier machine. I got both machines at great prices and use them both.

nenebird 01-19-2013 07:46 PM

cuttlebug

It will do 90% of what you need. I got a grand calibur just because I wanted to do multiple cuts at one time, but the cuttlebug is great machine.

Phantom 01-19-2013 08:53 PM

I started with the Cuttlebug - too unstable for me. Switched to the Big Shot and loved it - more fun to use than the Cuttlebug, stable, and for me it was easier to store and use.

But. . . then I moved on to the Vagabond and I do love not cranking.

If you'd prefer true portability and not an electric machine, you can't go wrong with the Big Shot.

Glitter Gypsy 01-19-2013 09:34 PM

I love my Big Shot. It's very sturdy and gives great results with all types of dies and embossing folders. I've had mine for years and use it every time I sit down to craft. It's my favorite tool.

yes...saw that...I am interested in MORE folders...a girl never can have too many y'know! Lol

Just picked up the big shot at Michael's with a 40% coupon but those spellbinders are sooooo expensive. I see people posting that they pick up spellbinders for a few dollars at Michael's. I seem to never see those kinds of deals. Where else do you folks shop for dies?

Leeann34 01-20-2013 04:51 PM

I heard from another poster that Walmart has dies so I checked it out. They have a lot of Nesties for @$18 and under and shipping is only 97 cents.

Excellent....Joanne's online often have things on sale and something's less or free shipping. Check Amazon also

Ccrops123 01-21-2013 07:38 AM

Tomorrow starts the SU Sale-a-Bration and you could order the Big Shot and one other small item to reach $100--then you qualify for TWO free SAB items, one of which is a really cool Embossing folder. If you order up to $150 (before tax & shipping) then you qualify for THREE free SAB items, plus $25 hostess dollars and a free pack of Silver Sparkle Glimmer paper!

OR, you could sign-up as an SU demo during SAB ($99), then you can get the Big Shot as part of your kit with some to still spend on other items as well!!! :) Their promo during SAB is $99 for the starter kit and get $156.50 worth of product!

dzuckerman 01-21-2013 01:21 PM

Yes, I was strongly considering signing up as a demo for that deal as of tomorrow. I already got the Bigkick and just ordered a bunch of dies and embossing folders at Jo Ann's online. I don't know how much more my wallet can handle.
