I know I must be in the dark ages but can someone tell me about prima flower embellishments? Where do you get them? Are they expensive? Do they come in different colors.
Tracey, you can get Prima flowers at most scrapbooking stores although I don't think Michael's carries them.
They come in color families and you can buy them in cute bottles. Here in Canada they're about $10 a bottle depending on the store of course. They've expanded their line a lot in the last year with different colors and carry leaves now as well.
Cindy (starlitstudio) has the more "fancy" varieties - the hydrangeas and the larger blossoms...and her prices are awesome, she ships super-fast. I get my "basic" varieties through Archivers Online (www.archiversonline.com) because they seem to have the most consistent supply-chain. They're a quick-shipper, too. Other sources:
As far as price: I think it's *awesome*!! About two years ago, Making Memories released their paper flowers. They were $2.99 for roughly 12 to 20 flowers (depending on the variety) and there were only 4 larger (silver dollar-sized) flowers per package and 8-12 smaller (quarter-sized) flowers per package. So in comparison: I think the Primas at $5.99 to $7.99 per bottle are a *BARGAIN* considering how much you get! Some of the smaller, LSSs even broke up the "crates" of flowers for sale individually around here; those were $4.99 and there are *tons* in there, too.

The mulberry Primas, IMHO, are very reasonably priced, considering how many are in each bottle! And, then you get this cool bottle you can do something else with! ;)
As for securing them, I either use mini brads inserted through the centers, OR, mini glue dots.
I just love the darn little things! I have yet to get the more mondo ones--I just have the little ones and then some of the white larger size ones. I'm trying to use up what I have before I get more (of course, this coming from a pathetic *****'der . . . )

I set the Primas with a glue dot, then "...spruce up..." the center with a pre-mixture of DDG/CE. (Go see my gallery if you want to know what it looks like - pink/brown Happily Ever After l/o...) I don't like the "poked hole" centers of the flowers - drives me nuts they look so plain!! I've also been putting some mini-buttons in from Lasting Impressions, dolled up with ribbon/hemp. Oh, the glue dot size depends on the size of the flower... (and out here: they've garnered the name "...snot dots..." because if you take them between your fingers and roll them, well...they look like a booger.)
...fessin' up here: I have like 7 bottles of Primas!! I am using them on *EVERYTHING* under the sun!! Cards, pages, little "doo-dads." My parents 40th anniversary is approaching, so I'm getting pages done in vintage themes. I'm *SO* excited about my photo order later this week: our 1972 family photo - dad is complete with pork-chop sideburns!!
And yup - all those pretty Primas....affixed with Snot Dots...

I went in just a few weeks ago to see if by a small chance they did. When I asked the gals at the service counter where they have Prima flowers, they looked at my like I was smokin' something! I sat there trying to describe them (in the vain hope that maybe they were just unsure of the name) and they sent me over to the floral section where all the silk flowers are. NOT!

Julie!!! You should NOT call yourself such an awful name!!! ;)
Not to keep going on and on about these flowers but...since I haven't seen them up close, what colors do you recommend starting with? I love the bold brights family of SU! colors. What asstd. bottle would work best?
Thanks for hanging in with me and all my questions!
...I like the "White Got Flowers - Medium." They go with everything and you can either watercolor them, brayer them, or marker them to be any of the 48 SU! you need them to be! My second choice is "Vintage Mix Got Flowers - Medium."
I've got one of the fall mixes and one of the spring mixes (but can't remember on either...is it #1 or #2???) and the pink mix - I see you have daughters so I *HIGHLY* recommend the pink mix!! - I've got one of the small primary Got Flower mixes which I needed 3 specific colors for a layout that couldn't be had any other way - *sigh* - but I'm not all that thrilled with either the other colors in that mix or the size...way too small for my liking. [Talk about sounding like a whiny brat, huh?!!?]
Hope I've been a help and haven't confused you further!! ~ K
