I was hoping someone could suggest a good book or website where I can get some help in learning how to use my PhotoShop Elements 6 program. I figured out how to use a few of the very basic techniques to edit the photos I take of my cards for the gallery/my blog. But I want to learn what the other features are and how to use them. And I would like to figure out how to do some digital scrapbooking.
The only two books my library had only showed how to edit a photo. I want to learn how to work with layers too. I had thought about buying a digital kit, but don't want to spend the money until I know what I'm doing. TIA

I can tell you there is a lot of online help and discussion forums that I'll google a subject, and often find the answer or a tutorial. One thing that made me crazy was I used to have PSE 3, and you could use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out. When I upgraded to 7, it didn't work anymore...I found my answer online, and was able to change my preferences to have it work again. Even Adobe themselves has that online thing you sign into, and can learn more about how to do things in the programs.
You may find it easier to read the book then go do it, which then my suggestion won't really help you, but I'm a hands on learning person, so I find the online stuff a GREAT help.
Good luck!
There is a scrapbooking show on the BYU ( Brigham Young University) channel everyday at 1:30 CST. Scrapbooking Memories. I have Dish Network. A friend turned me onto it. Anyway each program has a segment about Photoshop. It is very explainatory. They also have a web site so you might try finding that and maybe watch the show. I have been recording the shows just for that segment. I am going to buy Photoshop. Good luck. If you find a good book please pass the info along.
I'm another fan of Scott Kelby's. His Elements 6 book that I keep on hand and refer to constantly is "the photoshop elements 6 book for digital photographers" published by New Riders. It's an AWESOME book and not one that you have to sit down and go through cover to cover. You can just look up the particular task you want to learn about and he'll walk you through it step by step. I love it!!!!
www.jessicasprague.com She has classes, but you have to pay for them. The good thing is, that once you pay, you can go back and watch the videos forever. She also has a message board where you can ask questions.
Great info! Thanks for asking the question. Another newbie elements user here who's having trouble getting past the basics. I'll check out the suggestions!

My next question... I was looking at the website for my library to see if they have any of the titles available through interlibrary loan and I see some books listed as "Photoshop 6" and "Photoshop Elements 6". I there a difference between PS and PSE? If so, what is it? Thanks.
Photoshop is the big brother to Photoshop Elements, it has a lot of options that elements does not. Unless you are doing a lot of graphic design, elements will likely work just fine for most people.
Ok. I think that explains something. I have watched some of the episodes of Scrapbook Memories and have tried to follow along with the instructions from the lady who does the photoshop segment, but I don't seem to have all the features she has. This was so frustrating because I wanted to try the techniques and thought I must be missing something. Maybe I am not finding them or maybe she is using PS and I have PSE and those aren't features on my program.
It figures the program has already been upgraded. I just bought PSE6 less than 6 months ago.

I did the same thing...I had gotten PSE 3 and 4 came out a month later  Now I've upgraded to 7, but it's still pretty much the same, just some things are in different menus and such.
Hoping you are able to find the resources you need!! I'm a fairly basic user, and would like to learn more about brushes, and actions and all that good stuff, but just haven't had the time.
I'm not affiliated with the website, just a happy customer. The CD has lessons via movies as well as lessons that you can print out and following along with. Best money I've ever spent!

A great source for a tutorial on PSE 6 (or 7 or any other version) is www.scrapgirls.com . They have a beginning digital scrapping tutorial that is somewhere around $30, and is super easy to follow along.
They also have classes that can be taken that deal with specific things--restoring photographs, enhancing, etc.
I've been a very happy customer of theirs!

I'll second this suggestion. I am a digital scrapper using Photoshop Elements 5 and I bought this CD. It is a great buy!
Also, I can highly recommend this book "Digital and Hybrid Scrapbooking and Card-making with Photoshop Elements" by Patty Debowski at TheDigitalScrapbookTeacher.com
I am trying to learn how to use my photoshop elements program. Can anyone tell me any cool things that u know how to do on there? I already learned a few.
Great thread. I just got Photoshop Elements 7 and am lost. I have taked a free lesson from jessicasprague.com, but haven't finished it yet. I found her instructions to be very easy to follow. I am hoping that our community college will have a community education course of photoshop this fall since they have in the past. If not, I will be exploring these options. Thank you!
