PTI products are only available from their online store - unless you buy used, like from their For Sale or Trade forum.
Some people ask on the PTI forum for a shipping buddy. There are usually people in the US willing to receive your order, strip out the extra packaging (like the plastic boxes the stamp sets come in), and repackage and mail to you. There are quite a few overseas customers who get their PTI products this way. And if you are not ordering card stock, many things can be sent in a padded mailer instead of a box.
Others pair up with other customers in their country and split the shipping costs for an order.
thanks so much for this info. they have a policy of fastest shipping only and not based on weight, which means you can't even contemplate buying. really appreciate your response. if i get a buddy, do i find one whose state doesn't charge sales tax, since we don't have to pay it? if so, how do i check that out? sorry, more questions!
Papertrey Ink is based in Ohio, so they need to charge sales tax when they ship to residents of that state. I'm in Illinois and don't pay sales on orders from them (although I'm supposed to declare on my IL tax return.) Many states are trying to overturn this, but for right now I think any shipping buddy not from Ohio is free from sales taxes.
If you DO go the shipping buddy route, make sure you set a procedure in place for what happens if you have a problem. From what I've read, PTI seems to be having some customer service "problems".

Many thanks for the advice. I did read a lot of the CS issues and I too had problems with them with a stamp set many years ago and got no response to my complaint. Maybe I will need to look elsewhere, though I really do like that harlequin cover plate!
I have ordered for someone out of the country and when I received her dies I tested them and make sure they cut before sending them off to her. It was a win/win situation for the both of us. She was assured the dies would cut properly and I got a few die cuts pieces that I otherwise would not have had. If they did not cut properly I was willing to contact PTI to get the situation corrected.
Note: I did report to the person how the die cut - if she would need a shim or not. Also, it is possible what cuts fine in my machine may not cut as well in other machines - since as you know all die cutting machine are not the same.
