Default is the ott light on sale at michaels a good one?

I wanted to get an ott light for wo different things. First, to illuminate the area where I'm working often very late at night so that I'm not shocked at my color combinations when daylight comes. And also I was looking for light that would help me take better pictures of my projects inside the house (right now I'm taking my stuff outside to get decent pics).

Is the ott light that's on sale at michaels --a universal craft lamp reg. 59.99. Is that a sufficient light for my purposes?

TIA,
Lisa

I got this same Ott lamp when it was on sale a while back. It is a nice lamp, as all Ott's are, but it is really very small, and you have to have what you are working on right underneath it for good light. I used it on my craft table, and it is kind of "tippy" because the base is also made to clamp on if you want it to. I personally don't think the base is designed very well.

I got a daylight spectrum floor lamp with a gooseneck base at Big Lots for about $30 and it came with 2 extra bulbs. It has a heavy base and stands on the floor next to my table. You can rotate the gooseneck anywhere you need to, and it provides much better light IMO than the tiny Ott did.

I think the Ott floor models are great, but they are always too pricey for me, even on sale. I'm very happy with my substitute daylight spectrum lamp.

I have one desktop OTT lite that I got from Tuesday Morning for about $15. It sits on my worktable for sewing or stamping. It is fine but doesn't illuminate a very large area because it is so small. I have 2 generic-brand OTT lites that I picked up at Big Lots for $30 each. I LOVE those 2 lamps. They are usually next to my reading chairs but I have 1 set up next to a jigsaw puzzle I've been working on lately. I've also gotten my mother addicted to them. She keeps one on her side of the bed so she can read the newspaper in the morning. My father accidentally knocked it over and broke it and we had to go IMMEDIATELY to buy a replacement. If you have a Big Lots near you, I suggest looking there for the larger lamp - you'll like it more.

Well, OTT lights aren't in my budget... so I bought "DAYLIGHT" bulbs (by Sylvania) and put them in my light on my work desk...they provide a natural looking light and I can see real colors....worked so far - no surprises!

Just a thought as an alternative if anyone is interested! much cheaper than the OTT light!
