How did I ever live without this thing??? I had 5 stamp sets cut out of ez-mount within 10 minutes... no goo, no mess. Cut like butter. AMAZING! Off to go unmount some more of my new sets I have sitting around here.
I think it is normally around $16.99 regular price.
Thanks so much! I may have to invest in this ASAP! I have been unmounting stamps for a while now, and I've gotten to where I dread going in there to do it because of the mess. This sounds like the perfect answer!
I *love* mine as well...but I bought a multi-use one that has woodburning abilities and it has a case. Convenient!
One of the best purchases I ever made.
How do you use the Hot Knife to cut out the EZ mount? Is there a video tutorial? I am planning on unmounting some of my SU stamps and there isn't much rubber left for me to trim around when I put them on the EZ mount and I hate the though of getting all the sticky stuff on my scissors.
I got mine from Sunday International when I ordered more EZ mount. I know I paid too much for it since I could use a coupon at Mikes but it was easier than going to go get it. I paid 19.99. Anyway, when you go on their website, they show you how to use the knife. Just click on the Hot Knife link on the left and the tutorial is there.
Help! I get a strong rubber smell and it doesn't cut like butter...I must be doing something wrong! It gets really hot, and the blade sortof changes color, ...am I supposed to cut like a steak??
I just held it upright. Only the tip cut the foam. My tip changed color. Mine started to not cut so I put it down in the holder to get hot again and then wiped the blade on a towel to clean the gunk off of it. It worked again perfectly.

ok I so do NOT like the Hot Knife.. I too must be doing something wrong and went to bare rubber.. was faster for me..
I don't like it either. I do use EZMount but just trim it as best I can with my SU craft & rubber scissors. No problems here.

You MUST hold the knife straight up and down or it won't cut as well. Also you don't have to push hard because the knife is so hot it does cut like butter. Also if you have a ragged edge after cutting you just run the side of the blade along the edge and it looks like it has been professionally die cut!
I absolutely can't live without my hot knife. I have been using it for 3-4 years and am on my second one because the first one I bought didn't have a replaceable blade option. My husband also cuts apart stamps for me AFTER they have been mounted on EZ Mount using the hot knife because if I want to use them separately I can, but when I want to put them together they fit perfectly which doesn't happen if you use a scissors to cut them apart. I bought mine through Sunday International when they had a special (and may still have) to buy the knife and the glass plate together. I use my glass plate to do EZ mount and the new circle cutter scissors that SU sells (bought mine at JoAnn's with a coupon).

I just got a hot knife, too, and I love it! I mounted sooo much rubber in just a fraction of the time. I spent more time wondering where this hot knife had been all my life! :p
I was wondering, though...how often do you all replace the blade? I went through over three sheets of EZ Mount, and by the end it started to seem like maybe it wasn't cutting QUITE as well, although it was still SO much easier than scissors.
I am just wondering about how often to replace the blade. Any thoughts?

We replace our blade when it gets dull. We do clean it after each session of use. I'm excited for you. Best thing that ever happened to us with regards mounting stamps. Have fun!

I just found out there was such a thing as a hot knife. The only one I have been able to find online is made by Hickory Hollow (or Something Hollow) at either Joanne or Michael. Is this what most of you have?
On the product review at Joanne's, someone also mentioned that replacement blades were not available. It was an old review. Has that changed or is this supposed to be considered a disposable item?
I have been doing unmounted for such a long time I can't believe I didn't know this existed. That sticky scissors and the blisters on the thumb after cutting out 3 sheets has amost driven me back to wood mounted more than once. I was soooo happy to find this thread. Your comments have been very encouraging.

This is what I use also. It does come with 2 blades, but so far I have been unable to find additional replacement blades for this hot knife. Maybe if someone else has, they can point us in the right direction.
Can I ask why you are unmounting your already mounted stamps? Sorry new to the whole rubber stamp stuff I have only ever used acrylic before.
The unmounted with an acrylic block is so much more practical. There is less storage space involved. If you go to group stamping events, the weight of carrying all that wood around in tubs made me cringe. There is also the advantage of the see-through of the acrylic. Stamp placement is so much easier. I store my unamounteds on mirrors. I have 9 mirrors in my stamp room. The largest, a full-length mirror, is Christmas. THe next largest is floral. I pick up mirrors at garage sales so I can give categories (postal, cats, frogs etc.) their own mirror. Plus all those mirrors brighten up my west-facing stamp room.
I have shipped off several boxes of wood blocks to people who like to mount their dies on wood. I do try to avoid buying anything that makes be buy wood blocks at the same time I get the stamps. I have held true to that for at least a couple of years now. And as soon as I get my hot knife, that will solve the one complaint I have about unmounted stamps.

How do you store them on mirrors? I have a few rubber stamps that are not mounted but I havent figured out a way to store them yet.
Have you put your rubber dies on EZ Mount foam cling? EZ Mount sticks to glass just as well as it sticks to acrylic. Before I started using EZ Mount I used a foam with a white paper backing that had a film on it that was supposed to cling to acrylic, and it did, sometimes. It was a rigid material with very little flex in it and it seemed to get dusty or dirty very easily. EZ Mount is very pliable and it sticks firmly to acrylic and glass. Hence, it sticks firmly to mirrors.
Do you have your rubber on some kind of foam with a cling back? If you have them on EZ Mount, you can stick them to mirrors.

Gale has said she uses #11 Exacto blades. You might also check Ebay. I checked there to see if I could get a hot-knife and I noticed an auction for a pack of 2 blades. It had a number on the package. Do you know what number blades it takes?

Nope I just use 2 way tape and an acrylic block and it works for me, I change the tape when I need to and use new stuff. I have never seen this EZmount stuff but like I said I am new to rubber stamps most of my collection was acrylic.

If your two way tape sticks pretty firmly to the acrylic, maybe it would stay on a mirror too. I get my EZ Mount at Sunday International. They have specials once in a while. You might want to try a sheet of it and see what you think. Actually, if you want to send me your address, I will send you a small piece so you can amount one or two stamps and you can see if you think it is worth the bother. It does get sticky stuff on your scissors cutting it out, although I am hoping that when I get my hot-knife, that problem will be solved. So, if you would like to try it out, let me know. You could send me a PM.

I use a product called Tack n Peel. It's a clear sheet, permanent adhesive on one side and repositionable on the other. It's the best of both world, lol. Rubber stamps stick temporarily on the sticky side, or I can put the clear polymer stamps on the other side. I can still see through the block, whichever side the stamp is on...
I decided years ago that buying EZ Mount was an added expense I didn't want to have.
ETA: Sorry, should have made it clear...the tack n peel is stuck (permanently) on an acrylic block. I only have to apply it to a few different sized blocks the one time...no repeated expenditure.
My hot knife just arrived in the mail. It is Walnut Hollow. I am so eager to try it out, but it is going to have to wait until tomorrow. I am itching to get that stack of unmounted stamps mounted.
The tack and peel sound interesting. I have a couple duplicates in my acrylic blocks. I think I will give it a try on those. If I understand correctly, no foam is involved. The rubber itself sticks to the tack and peel? If that is right, do you notice any difference in the amount of pressure you have to use when you stamp?
