New Quickutz embossing folders - same as Cuttlebug?
Sorry if this is a repeat but I couldn't find a recent post about this.
I got an email this week from Scrapyland that they have the new Quickutz A2 embossing folders available. When I checked out the link, the pieces I saw looked just like the ones I had read about a month or more ago that were supposedly by Cuttlebug. So I'm a little confused.
Are these Quickutz folders the same type and size as the Cuttlebug (i.e. transparent plastic folder style, about 4.5 x 5.5)? I want to make sure before I order and all I can find are pictures of the embossed paper and not the packing/item itself. TIA

They certainly appear to be just like the Cuttlebug folders. I saw them this weekend, but didn't have a CB folder to compare them to.

Thanks ladies for the info. I like a couple of the designs and was really interested in getting them, but I wanted to make sure they were plastic folders and not the regular Quickutz style metal folders like their "goosebumps" line.
I had originally seen these designs advertised as Cuttlebug folders back in January, and now they are under the Quickutz name. And I don't see any new Cuttlebug folders available anywhere. So I'm wondering if they merged the companies for this product.

They definitely did not merge the companies. Provo Craft just didn't release any new folders, but will be at the summer CHA to my knowledge.

A 12" embossing folder huh? Now that could have some serious potential. I am going to have to look into that, my scrapbook pages wouldn't know what hit 'em!

Are they really A2 or do they emboss short of that measurement like the Cuttlebug ones. That said, they still look very cool.

Hi, Susan! I just picked up a few of these at Archiver's this afternoon and yes, they are practically identical to the CB folders - plastic, same size, everything. However, when I ran them through my CB once I got home, I noticed that they are just a hair thinner than the CB folders. So depending on how tight your CB rolls, you may need to add a card stock shim. My CB is not particularly tight, so in order to get the impression as deep as I wanted, I had to use TWO card stock (SU) shims. But other than that, it worked perfectly!
Which ones are you getting? I got Labels (2x2 four pack), Flowers (A2), and Plants (A2). The Plants folder matches one of the stamps in Pocket Silhouettes to a 'T'! And one of the Labels folders matches up with the Curly Label Punch for a perfectly embossed Curly Label window on a card! I'm in love! Gonna have to go back and get some more. LOL  Anyway, I hope this helps. ;)

OK, so today my LSS got these embossing folders in. I bought four of the A2 and the package of embossing plates. The instructions say to put paper in the folder, lay it on the 12" magnetic plate, lay the embossing pad on top and turn the handle. I did this but where the groove along both sides of the magnetic plate run it is raised and that is the only part of my embossing that showed up. What am I doing wrong? Am I a moron or what? Help! I really want these to work. Anybody understand what I am talking about? TIA Jill

Darn, thanks but it just demoed the smaller metal dies that fit within the edges of the platform. I know a couple of people on SCS have used this and theirs looked good. I am wondering if it is just me doing something wrong. Anybody else got some ideas?

Yes, these are the same format as the CB folders. All mine arrived yesterday and they're fantastic! I ran one of the 12" folders through my BK a little while ago and it's beautiful. The 2x2 Labels set is really nice.
Here's what's available:
http://www.scrapyland.com/category_s/298.htm
I used this sandwich in my BK:
Essentials Platform
first Extended Cutting Pad
folder with cardstock inside
chipbord shim (probably need 2 cardstock shims if you're using cardstock)
second Extended Cutting Pad
(The Extended Cutting Pads are sold as a pair. They're the long ones needed for the BigZ XL dies.)
The result is great!

New to embossing...
I am interested in getting an embossing machine but there are too many to choose from...Does anyone have any advice? I have been looking at the Cuttelbug...but now have found a Sizzix (looks like a purse) and a QuicKutz. Any opinions would help!

I emboss using the Cuttlebug folders on my Revolution. I use the tan mat from Spellbinders when I am making the "sandwich" on my machine.

I would recommend if your budget fits both the Cuttlebug and the Sizzix Embossing machine (Sizzix Texture Boutique), to go with the cuttlebug. The Sizzix embossing machine will only emboss. With the cuttlebug, you can do Nestabilities, embossing folders, and things like that because it is also a die-cutting machine. I have a Sizzix Big Kick which is a die cutting machine and I love it.
I wouldn't recommend getting the embossing machine because that's all it does, and for the same price you can get a die cutter and do more things with the same amount of money.

What if I already have a Cricut for cutting? Would you still recommend buying both or just one?

If you are going to invest in something for embossing, yes, because a Cuttlebug on sale will cost you roughly the cost of a Sizzix Texture Boutique, maybe a bit more but not much. But with the Cuttlebug or the Big Kick, you can also use texture plates (you can't in the texture boutique) and you can use the Nestabilities, which cut and emboss. So my opinion is if you are going to buy something anyway, it might as be a versatile machine rather than the texture boutique which has a very limited scope.

Oh another thing is, with the Texture Boutique you can't put the embossing folder on half of an open card and run it through, because the folder has to sit sideways and the opening isn't large enough. So you would have to cut a piece that would fit the front of the card, then run it through.
However, if that fits what you are wanting to do and you really aren't interested in the Nesties or in the texture plates, the OH MY CRAFTS has the Boutique for $15.99 this weekend if you use the coupon code, which is an awesome price!

I bought a ton and I think they embossed deeper than Cuttlebug orig folders. I made some great Christmas cards! Love the designs, esp. the Holly, but watch out! The Christmas names were artsy and NOT what the folder actually was! My holly folder was called SNOW GLOBE! LOL
