Memory Box Dies

Has anyone tried using the Memory Box dies on cardstock? How about on heavier cardstock like that from Stampin' Up, Papertrey Ink, or Gina K? Because the dies are solid in the middle, I'm concerned that they may not cut thicker materials as cleanly as they cut thinner paper. Thanks for any insight you can provide!

If you don't get a clean pass the first time through, just run it through again until you do. Maybe that'll help?

The dies are from the same company that makes the PTI dies and those work just fine on PTI cardstock (obviously).

I bought 4 of the new Memory Box dies and I love each one of them! THey cut beautifully. I did find that with heavier card stock - it helped to put a scrap piece of card stock folded in half as an extra shim running it through. But i have beautiful, detailed and delicate cuts from all types of papers. I am seriously considering selling some of my nesties- none of the spellbinders dies that are intricate can compare to the new MBox dies - IMHO. With the Spellbinders, I get stuck papers and poor embossing with the intricate dies like the newer window frame and decorative flourishes - I know I won't purchase another detailed Spellbinder's die. Especially with the beautiful choices from MBox now. DId you know they are coming out with butterflies, birds and more intricate borders and circle die cuts soon? Can hardly wait!

The MBox dies are also made in the good ol' USA - another selling point for me.

Since these dies are very similar to PTI, My Favorite Stamps, ....they do work the same. I have noticed that I have less problems with the border dies. For the Memory Box Woven Circle, I like adding one of those metal shims that many of these sites are selling as well. (Sorry I don't own a micrometer, so I can't tell you the thickness of that metal sheet.) I think any of these dies that start to get very tiny cutouts sort of require some tweaking.

Unfortunately, I have only posted one project and I did use thin paper, but you may be interested to see how I used the Memory Box Pristine Border. Note: this die does make a complete cutout.

Just saw on Facebook that they're coming out with a new set called Orchard Butterfly. I looked at the pics and they're amazing. I can't wait to check them out at my local store.

Got the 'Orchid Branch' (?) die yesterday. I cut beautifully using SU cardstock. This particular die is not intricate though. I'm waiting for my LSS to get more of the initial collection in and stocked for sale.

I watched a tutorial for some Cherrylyn (?) doily dies. The man placed the die on the c/s and use removal tape then ran the sandwich through the die cutting machine back/forth several times then rotated the die & c/s because he said all machines have a 'sweet spot' so rotating the die & c/s will probably guarantee a good cut no matter how intricate the die. Tried this hint on the MFT Die-namics 'High Tea Party' doily die (that baby is very intricate) and it works. I think this die came with a pop out tool to assist with getting ALL the tiny cutouts out of the finished product.

I have cut through all different weights of card stock and even felt with the dies (love the Bubba elephant from felt) but my very favorite is the Delicate Vines die cut from Memory Box Soiree paper (heavy metallic cardstock) it is just beautiful. If some of the more intricate ones stick, I run them through with a layer of wax paper next to the die. (That works with the felt too.) HTH

Yes, the dies cut heavier cardstock. I have also used thin cork and acetate. I did two videos on the dies. You can see them here:

I just received my first Memory Box dies this morning - finally got to play with them tonight, and all I can say is

OH MY GOD!

They are absolutely stunningly beautiful! So delicate, so precise, perfect cutting with my Cuttlebug. I tried the Winterland tree, crisp bows, and bianca snowflake. The only problem I can see is they are soooo delicate that there is not much there to put adhesive on. So I am thinking that I will have to use either some kind of spray adhesive or a very thin liquid glue that dries clear - any suggestions out there? I don't have a Xyron machine so that is not an option.

I will post a card with each one of them later tonight.

flash&rusty, so glad you LOVE the dies! They are amazing. I have done a video for Memory Box on adhesive on the delicate dies. We are having trouble getting it posted, and have to create another Memory Box account. I am on vacation and Dave is traveling the U.S. teaching so hopefully we will get it posted shortly. I do show using a Xyron in the video but it's not my favorite option. Just a quick layer of Collage Pauge, Gel Medium, or Mod Podge works the best IMO. I show that also. Work great, and it's quick! I just received my set of the beautiful Crisp Bows dies! I'm excited to use them, and I'm wondering about the best way to adhere them. Of the products that Patter listed, I do have Gel Medium. If I get any of the product on the front of the die-cut piece, will that show once it's dry?

I'd also welcome information regarding any other methods and products for adhering these pieces of loveliness!

I cut the C/S to size, ran it through a Xyron then cut the image. I have the Grapevine Wreath and the Woodland Branch and both have some very thin parts that stick out. Using the Xyron worked the best for me. When peeling the backing off, you have to go slowly or you might tear off the thin portions.

These dies are the best! Love then all but must control myself because more are on the way!

This sounds like something I can manage � I knew there was a reason I've continued to hold on to those two Xyrons that I rarely seem to use!

I have been having very good luck on the smaller dies, no matter how detailed or delicate, using my old Quick Kutz Revolution.

I have been buying the Sissix brand adhesive sheets from Hobby Lobby! I love them! They work great on the Memory Box Dies. Now --am going to buy the SU ones as they are larger --and can be used in the Cameo as well.

I too love the Memory Box dies...they are so delicate and beautiful. The deer trio is one of my favorites and now the leaping deer. This company has great designers.

I was having major trouble with one of my Memory Box dies (I think it's "whimsy circle"?) but read on here about using roof flashing for a metal shim. I did that (so inexpensive) and they all work BEAUTIFULLY now!
