Default Memory Box Die Cuts

Couple dumb questions. Recieved my first MB dies yesterday.

A couple of them are attached to each other, the stars and the bows. What is the best way to cut them apart, scissors, craft knife...??? Don't want to ruin them.

What do you use to store them in?

Thank for you help, Suzie

I read on Ellen Hutson's blog that she used strong scissors and then a file to smooth the rough edges. She said the cut edge is really sharp so be careful. You can search her blog if you need more info.

Go to the Memory Box website then go to Dave Brethauer blog. He show how he breaks the dies apart. He just bends the pieces back and forth. I break them this way then clip the sharp nubs with wire cutters. After I clip them, I use sandpaper/nail file to smooth the ends.

I went to Dave Brethauer's Blog but am unable to find where he shows how he does this. Do you have a link?

Thank you for your assistance, Suzie

Sorry, I don't know how to do a link to this website.

Go to the Memory Box website then to the how-to videos and then go to the polar bear snow globe card tutorial. About 2/3 of the way through, Dave breaks apart the snow globe die.

Hope this helps.

I store them alphabetically standing up in a plastic shoe box. Lots of room yet to fill

I don't know about breaking them apart. Haven't had to do that yet. As for storage, I just keep mine in the envelopes they come in and have them standing up in a basket with the names facing forward.

I store my dies in the original packaging in a plastic box. I use those free business magnetic card in the envelope for the little pieces from when it broke the dies apart.

Why, oh why, did I read this thread? I never heard of the Memory Box and now that I saw their dies, I am craving them. The only problem, or not, is that there is no store near me that sells them. It seems that they do not sell online or only wholesale. Do all of you buy at stores? I did not see pricing either, and am afraid to imagine the prices....

No, you should keep that secret! Now what will I do? I know, I will step away from the computer, get busy doing something else, get school going, and hopefully by the end of the day the fever will have passed.

They are competitively priced to other brands (maybe a little less). I am awaiting my first order from SimonStamps.com. They have free shipping on orders $50 domestic/$75 international.

You know they will haunt you until you place an order. I had not heard of them either until a couple weeks ago. Now I own seven of their dies and love them! More to order but will have to wait until next month...maybe...LOL

Besides Ellen Hudson, Frantic Stamper and CropStop carries them. The trick is to find who has what you want now as they are a very popular item. I had to order from two places to get my initial order. All three of these online stores have top notch customer service and shipping.

Here are two links to the first cards I made with my new dies:

Hope that helps your fever!!!

It was a bit better, until I decided to check on the thread again. Now, if I just would see something rather ugly or a prohibitive price, my fever would certainly disappear. Since I have more school to get done, I will be safe for a while.

You can also order them from a local store in Seattle, called Impress Rubber Stamps. Here's a link to their website. The dies are in the tools sections: dies + tools: Impress Rubber Stamps

Colleen

p.s. if you "like" Ellen Hutson or Impress on Facebook, they often announce special discounts for online orders.

Too bad most of them are shown as out of stock. Do they honor the sale price if the item is out of stock?

Unfortunately her sales usually say "in stock items only". You can also order online from impressrubberstamps.com. They have quite a few of the MB dies in stock and if you use code "thank you" you get 20% off your entire purchase. The sale is on through Jan 2, 2012.

Default Memory Box Compatibility

Does anyone know if you can use the Memory Box dies with the Original Sizzix? I've read that you can use the Spellbinder NEstabilities with it.

Thanks. We saw a few videos like this for the Nestabilities but nothing for the Memory Box die cuts. Not sure if they are similar enough that they'd work the same.......

I just got the scalloped corner notches and the twiggy tree dies. I would love to see what y'all have done with these. I read somewhere the corner notch one is perfect for gift cards.

Also, occasionally check ETSY. I recently picked up a Tags stamp and the matching Tags Die--both for only 15.00. I usually go to ETSY first whenever I want to buy something. If I can find it there, it's usually cheaper and the shipping cost isn't too bad (at least with the experiences I've had on ETSY).

Memory Box Dies are fabulous ! I have ordered 4 times from Ellen Hutson and each time
the order arrives within a few days. Excellent customer service. I love every single one of the dies. The only problem is that my Cuttlebug is getting worn out from constant use. It's several years old now and I find that center of my latest order of intricate MB dies doesn't cut all the way despite running them through several times, using shims and even using a metel plate underneath. I think my roller has worn & I'll have to buy a new Cuttlebug !

Don't know the answer to your Cuttlebug problem but did find a solution for glueing those intricate dies. I put the card stock on Sizzix permanent adhesive, then cut the die. Now all you have to do is peel off the backing and stick the die image where ever you want. No more putting little dots of glue all over the back. It also makes the intricate cut die more stable so you don't tear it. Much easier to work with. IMO

I think the thickness of the Nestabilities and Memory Box dies are similar so it should work for both.

They are in the SU cattie, page 216, Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets. 12x12, 12 sheets per pack for $14.95. Both side have adhesive on it. I also use it when I want to apply glitter to a die or punch shape.

Here's a link to a card I made last year using the paper and glitter:

Valentine Lollipops by crazysuziestamper - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Since I have a ton of glitter I use the adhesive sheets instead of buying glitter card stock. Little messy but fun to play with...LOL

Great idea. I have so much trouble gluing down those little cuts. Are you able to use this with the Memory Box dies? I've tried with the Sookwang/Scor-tape and it doesn't cut all the way through because it's such a thick layer. I guess I could try shimming more, but am afraid to break my Cuttlebug.

Thanks,
Colleen

Can you use the adhesive sheets on intricate dies that you cut on the Cameo? Anyone try that?
