Default Magnetic Placement Mat for Nestabilities

I am wondering if the magnetic placement mat works with the cuttlebug. I haven't been able to find much info on this. Anything I have see is using the wizard die-cutting machine not the cuttlebug.

Does anyone use it with the cuttlebug? If so, how does it work? Is it worth getting?

Can a person use just a magnetic sheet (bought at Walmart). I bought some for storing my dies and did try it in the bug but it wouldn't go through. I am wondering if the magnetic placement mat is that much thinner? Any help would be appreciated. I am placing an order tomorrow and was wondering if I should add this to it.

I am little confused about your question. Are you talking about Wizard tan mat? If you are - here is some info. I use my Nestabilites with a Cuttlebug, and it works like a charm. For cutting, you would do a sandwich (bottom to top): Plate A, Plate B, Cardstock, Nestabilities, Plate C. For Embossing, you would do: Plate A, Nestablities with a cut cardstock still in cutting side up, two Wizard tan mats, plate B. This might vary with each machine. If you're talking about magnetic sheet for storing Netabilites in CD cases and such, I am not sure what that has to do with Cuttlebug. I hope some of this helped.

It is not the Wizard tan mat for embossing. It is a magnetic sheet that you set your dies on and put the cardstock on top and run it through. It holds the dies in place. I have seen it used with the Wizard die cutting machine and was wondering if anyone has used it with the cuttlebug.

Here is a link to what they look like (from Ellen Hutson's store)

Sorry, I didn't even know these existed, so I don't know the answer... Oh, well, I am happy with my regular wizard tan mat in Cuttlebug. :-)

Thanks for asking - I had wondered about that too. Hopefully we will get a reply.

Emily Giovanni had a post on her blog a while ago about using a magnetic sheet instead of the actual magnetic pad. Let me see if I can find it.

OK - I understand about Magnetic storage but I think the OP and myself are talking about the plate going through the machine being magnetic. I know I was of the belief that this is what held the die on the Wizard machine.

I'll go see what I can find.

EDIT - Sorry I looked at the sandwich quickly and didn't see her magnet the first time as she didn't list it as part of the sandwich. Thanks!

Thanks for finding this. I emailed Emily to see what she used - the Spellbinders one or just a plain magnetic mat. I'll keep you posted.

In my Wizard I use vent covers. They come in packs of 3 and can be cut with scissors. They are great for storage too. I kep them in place and then place them in a 4x6 photo album. They take up very little space. Does not answer the question though.

Emily's first post indicates that she just used a 4 x 6 piece of magnetic sheet that you can purchase at the office supply store. The sheets are located in the same area as the printer labels, etc. The sheets are 8 1/2 x 11, and usally come in packages of 4 or 5, I think. I've seen the packages at Walmart, too (again, in the office supplies area).

I am curious to know how thin the Spellbinders sheets are. I did try a magnetic sheet that I purchased at Walmart and it would not go through the cuttlebug with the normal sandwich stack - A plate, B plate, magnetic sheet, die, cardstock, B plate. I had this brilliant idea that I could just stick the magnetic sheet directly onto an extra B plate and then I wouldn't have to worry about it moving around. But it didn't work so then I thought maybe the Spellbinders one is thinner and could try that.

Where does one get vent covers? Is this a Home Depot type item?

As in Karolyn's post, Emily did use the magnetic sheets (purchased at Staples). I tried the magnetic sheet I bought from the craft section at Walmart and it doesn't go through the Cuttlebug. Then I cut a piece off the roll I bought at Michael's (for putting in the CD cases to store the dies) and it worked! It is thinner than the 1st one I tried and it makes a difference. I can now place a larger die and a smaller one inside and make a frame and not worry about the dies moving.

I didn't think there would be such a difference in the thickness of the magnetic sheets. It's still a bit tight going through but it definitely worked.

I got the spell binders magnetic mat. It seems to be thinner than the
"regular" magnetic sheets I have found. I never bought the ones from the office supply and wonder if they are thinner,
I have both the Wizard and Cuttlebug. Never thried the mat with the cuttlebug .

I have the Spellbinders magnetic pad - which I have used in my Big Shot. But I now use the Cuttlebug for my nesties and with the sandwich recipe I got off of here, I haven't had a need to try the magnetic pad.

I just got my Spellbinders Magnetic Placement Mat. It is definitely thinner than the ProMAG magnetic sheet that I bought at Michael's. The ProMAG one did work in the Cuttlebug but this one will crank through much easier. I can't wait to make some neat frames using this. I saw one (can't remember where now) where you lay down the square scallop and put a circle inside and run it through. If I find the blog entry I will come back and post it.
