I thought that it was a pretty good question, if I do say so myself.;) I know that it would be fine for cards, cuz cards generally aren't made to last a long time. But my main passion is scrapbooking, what with my 2 monkeys around. I would just hate to do all of that work and a few years down the road it ruin the pictures or the pages.
I have seen the card stock at Wal-mart and I love the price, but is it really worth it in the long run?

Between doing swaps and hostessing swaps, yes I am! I'm in:
12 atc swaps
6 pages swaps
1 card swap
I'm hostessing:
5 atc swaps
4 pages swaps
I admit that I'm a little nuts! And those darn atc swaps are addicting! (BEWARE!);)

According to GP's website, the Walmart cardstock is acid free: http://www.gp.com/officeproducts/spe...html#cardstock Funny, though, the other cardstock line sold at Sam's Club is described for scrapbooking but does not specify that it is acid-free.

Does anyone know if WalMarts in Canada sell the Georgia Pacific Card Stock under a different name? I have found Card Stock at WalMart in Canada with the name Paperbilities which is acid free, just wondering if they are the same with different names?

I looked up the term lignin and it says that if the paper that you have is not lignin free that it will break down in time and turn to acid. Yikes! Isn't that what we are wanting to avoid!?!
Erin, I really hope that you are right about it being lignin free as well. Like I said earlier, I love the price of it at Wal-mart. If I remember, I will call them tomorrow to verify.
Jackie, I'm sorry, but I have no clue.:( Hopefully someone will know the answer to your question.

My package says acid free, but it does not say lignin free. I only use it occassionally on cards. Mainly I use it to print things on. I don't use it in my scrapbooks.
Hope that helps!

Well, I called Georgia Pacific thanks to the link provided by GypsyRoseStamper. I didn't even think about looking up the company.
Anyway, the lady that I talked to said that the card stock was acid and lignin free. I'm not sure if I trust her though.
Is there a way to test for lignin?

I buy this cardstock at sams 6 reams at a time and then go next door to Office max and have them cut it into halves and sometimes quarters for all the soldier cards I do. Having it cut, costs me .50 per cut. So if in half it is ..50 for the whole ream. Quarters cost me $1.00 but this saves me so much time and wear on my cutter at home. I love this cardstock. It suits the purpose very well. I also use it for stamping and other stuff. Good cardstock in my opinion. Blessings.

I have seen Paperbilities brand, and I am not positive but I believe it is different from the GP. I found the GP along with other printer papers (in the craft section), whereas the Paperbilities is with the scrappin stuff, at my Walliemart at least.

I have looked both in the craft section and the section where the printer paper is and I have never found any GP paper. I'm not even sure if they have it in Canada.

I use it sometimes for cards, but it really doesn't have the quality of Stampin' Up or Papertrey cardstock. I'd be happy to send you a piece before you run out and buy a pack! I have heard it's great for using Copics though. It really soaks up the ink.

I've had poor results watercoloring on it. It doesn't seem to absorb the water very well. Now, with markers (Copic, Prismacolors), it is awesome! I can't speak to pencils and gamsol.

Here ya go.....
* Lignin: Lignin is a chemical substance found in wood that bonds (glues) cellulose, making wood stronger; paper without lignin is not as strong. However, lignin breaks down over time, turning the paper brown and releasing acids.
* Acid: Acids actually can make paper better for writing or printing, but they gradually deteriorate or disintegrate paper -- whether used in the paper-making process, leached from other materials, or released during the breakdown of lignin. Over time, acidic paper becomes brittle.
* Buffering: A "buffer" in paper refers to the addition of alkaline materials into the paper-making process, in order to offset or cancel out the effects of acids. However, some studies suggest that excess alkaline materials may also damage paper.

Our Wal Mart in BC doesn't carry the Georgia Pacific Card Stock anymore. Apparently Georgia Pacific in Canada was bought out by another company. I have found that the Xerox brand from Office Depot...110# is pretty well the same cardstock. Seems to work great with Copics. Office Depot often has this cardstock on sale too.

I love GP cardstock for layering. It's not as thick as SU or Papertrey, but it is perfect for layering. I use prismacolors and gamsol all the time, and it is perfect!

I used the Georgia Pacific for years but then started noticing that the ink bleeds and I wasn't getting a crisp image. I now use SU's white for all my stamping and use the GP for other things.

I haven't bought it for years, though, only one pack. It definitely didn't stamp as well as SU's paper. My kids were given that pack of paper, and they were really happy with it
