Question Feeding embossing folder hinged edge sideways

Does any one have advise on whether or not I can feed a embossing folder hinged edge.... SIDEWAYS on the feed table of a big shot Plus?
(Before I buy it) Looks as if in all the tutorial I've been watching that the hinged edge of a embossing folder is ran towards the rollers.

Thx....needing input
Anita

The "rule" is that the fold goes in first (toward the rollers), but I've sent folders through the "wrong" way occasionally (on purpose, due to the orientation of the design) and it's worked out fine.

There's a higher risk of ruining the fold of the folder if it's sent through the wrong way, but it's still unlikely to cause any problems.

Imtoo somtimes feed them sideways...so far no ill effects. I would never run thru fold last.

Thank you for info. Thinking maybe a bit of tape on edges (If possible) may keep embossing folder from getting ruined.

I run regular sized folders through sideways sometimes and have had no issues at all (bigger folders won't go through my regular BigShot sideways). There is slightly more pressure at the edges of the rollers that in the middle but the folder has to withstand it anyway if you think about it (the outer "corners" of the hinge are always going to be towards the edges of the roller when you feed the folder in hinge first).

I never even knew you should not run the "hinge" last!

The risk with not putting it hinge first is that if it's slightly "off" as it heads in, the weak point is the hinge and it can break at that joint - I've had this happen in class when my students either feed it in sideways or with the opening towards the rollers. If you're careful, and it's at a true 90 degrees to the rollers headed in you'll probably be fine!
