My girlfriends and I four (four total) give each other our favorite things at Christmas. I was thinking everyone always needs one great pair of scissors. Fiskars makes a pair called Mixed Media, I believe. Anyone have an opinion on them? I'd love to know what everything thinks is a great pair of scissors.
These are my favorite and very high quality IMHO. They're much higher quality than Fiskers, I've had my 9.5" pair for 4 years and have even trimmed my rose bushes with them, and they still cut beautifully! https://www.amazon.com/Studios-819-T...+tim+holtz+819

I have a slight permanent injury with a bit of arthritis and I could cut with these for hours if I had to. They work with a reverse action. The handles are open and you squeeze them to cut. I'd tried quite a few pairs others liked previously.

I was thinking about my favourite pair, which are a shear-type scissor. Great for relieving pressure on fingers/hands, especially if a lot of cutting is required. Link HERE is for Amazon.co.uk, but they are shipped by a USA company, so I'm sure you'd find them on .com.

I have these in my stash too. I can't remember the last time they were used, forgot I had them, but they do work well. Bjeans suggested scissors has great reviews and a durable look too!
I have Marvy Squishy scissors for fussy cutting, two lengths of Tim Holtz Tonic scissors for tougher cuts, and a small pair of pink Tonic for cutting ribbon.

I dropped them of course on the tip! My darling hubby fixed them again so they still cut beautifully. My card group always borrowed mine until they each bought their own.
I have some Tonic small scissors but they are very tight and I hate them. There must be something wrong with them in the mechanism.
My absolute all time favorite are the "Cutter Bee" scissors by EK Tools. As the package says they "are great for detail cutting". I probably have gone thru about 2 or 3 pairs and of course keep "standbys" handy. I also have a pair of the Fiskars Easy Action that are good also but I miss that they don't have the loops for fingers which sometimes makes me feel like I don't have control of my cutting.
These black ones are my favs, although large, I always look to see where a scissor is made and what the warranty is (that is a big deal with the company I work for versus other company's tools). Stanley 8� Piranha Premium Titanium Scissor with a Non-stick Blade and Ergonomic Handle, Gray/Black (SCI8TINS), the non stick is great for cutting tape and such.
I also have the teeny pointy spring loaded ones (others have mentioned) that is wonderful especially since you don't need to put your fingers thru the round holes. With arthritis, that is an issue and the spring helps a lot. Someone mentioned going through more than one scissor in a few years, but if they are good quality, you should never have to replace them.

I also love the Cutter Bee scissors. I have a pair that is Pink with titanium blades that I got at Hobby Lobby about 10 years ago. I use them only for fussy cutting and they still work as good as they did when they were new.

I have a bigger pair of orange handle Fiskars that I only use for cutting fabric, and another pair just like them that I use only for cutting paper and cardstock. I have a couple of inexpensive small scissors that I use for cutting ribbon.

I could not agree more. I have 3 pair of CutterBee scissors, 2 non-stick and one regular....I use these for ONLY cardstock. I have 2 pair of the old CM scissors that I use for glitter covered paper and other specialty paper and ribbon. All my fabric scissors are kept in a separate leather bag and used ONLY for fabric.
While my husband does not know his way around a sewing machine like the one in the following article, he does understand different materials cause different kinds of abrasion on cutting blades. He sells industrial diamond saw blades for cutting a host of different materials. He does understand the fabric vs paper scissors. I grew up in a household where everyone was threatened within and inch of flogging for using fabric scissors on paper.
