I have 2 of the lights listed above--they are wonderful! One at each end of my work desk. I also changed my bulb in the ceiling light to a full-spectrum daylight-balanced one--and even that made a huge difference in the light in here.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I am definitely going to go with these full-spectrum lights - going to look at a few. I am still wondering about desk lamp vs floor lamp as I don't want to have anything more on my work surface than necessary

I'm with you about using a floor lamp and saving space on my table. I work on a round formica table and need every bit of it!
I got one of the full spectrum lamps at Big Lots about a year ago. It is a floor lamp, with a nice heavy base, and has a gooseneck at the top. I really like it, and it was a great bargain, which I also liked. It even came with an extra bulb.

I've learned my lesson about doing research on products the hard way - buying things and then finding out there is a less expensive substitute.
Sometimes you really do need the Brand X whatever. But sometimes you can find something perfectly good for your type of crafting (and budget) that is not the brand name that everyone is raving about on the forums.
I've always been the frugal sort, not just craft supplies, but life in general. I'm always saying to myself, "Yes, that is nice. But is it TWICE as nice, lol." It keeps me on the hunt for less expensive alternatives.

This is one of the great benefits of Splitcoast's forum - we get to learn from each other's successes and mistakes. I am still looking - looked at an Ott at BB&Beyond today. Table lamp - base is kind of big, so not sure. Going to look at floor lamps later in the week.
Thanks again for your feedback.

I have inexpensive halogen track lighting from Menards and I love it. I have three lamps that can be positioned any direction that I like. I never have dark spots on my stamping area. I think the fixture cost less than $30 and was easy to install. Love it. My stamping area is posted in my gallery.

My mom was the proud recipient of my first handmade card. Cost $200.
If I understand correctly, Ott had the patent or priority on "full spectrum lighting" for some time but now it is open to others to make that same item under other brand names. Mine is the Ott brand and it was a Christmas gift which came from Michaels while they were on sale and offering a coupon on sale items as well. It was about half price. I'm next going to try putting a similar type bulb in the main fixture in my craft cave or maybe some track lighting.

I use my old Dazor desk model magnifying lamp. It's all metal and very sturdy. It has a circular flourescent bulb that hasn't burned out in over 25 years. I have a couple of Ott lamps, but the Dazor is brighter with a larger light field.
My SIL who's a quilter put ceiling tube lights in her converted living room and it works way better for her than all the Ott lamps she had everywhere.
