Saw on Joann's they have some Darice EF on sale for $2! Anyone have a review on these? Just starting out getting goodies for my new Big Shot, so this is all new to me. What's your favorite brands? Any help welcomed!
i recently got the Darice cloudy folder and i love it. I have several brands, no preference, it's all about the pattern for me. They do seem a bit thinner than cuttlebug but they all do a great job. Go shopping!
I like the versatility of the Darice folders and their border sets. I find that they emboss well on all types of paper, including glitter and foils. I also have a collection from other companies (Cuttlebug, Sizzix, Paper Studio, SU, and from Crafter's Companion offerings). If the price is right, go for it! Diane
I love them. They are different. They are so much cheaper. I love them. The Joann’s I go to they are always sold out when the go on sale. I’ll have to buy them online!! Thanks for the heads up.
If you have a local acmoore, they often put their darice folders on sale for $1.98. Normally they sell them for $3.99 so you can always use a coupon when they aren't on sale. I love some of their recent releases.
I like the Darice brand. I only had to return one because it cut through the cardstock. Tried 3 different brands/thicknesses of cardstock and it cut all. It's been awhile ago so I don't remember which design it was. AC Moore often has them for half price.

I had one of their gears folders that kept cutting through the card stock. I lightly misted it with water and ran it through with no issue. That was the only one that I had that did that, but misting worked wonders for this one.
I've had several Darice folders that broke through the card stock. At the time, people online told me to use better card stock. Specifically they told me to use something better than DCWV. I have had the same results with many of my different card stocks with specific folders that are "sharp".
Spraying with water helps, but then the paper is a little warped. I guess I can't have it all.
Oh, and here's a laugh, I don't know how long I've been doing it wrong, but I have been doing embossing folders with only one tab off. Today I finally looked at the platform illustrations to see I should have been down to #3. Silly me!
After using the correct tab, the impressions are still very sharp, but don't always break through. I guess it is always a matter of trial and error. It's a good thing I have plenty of practice card stock.
The only complaint I can make about Darice embossing folders is that the "hinge" split on my Snowflake Background folder the third time I ever used it. However, because they are affordable, it's not too bad a hit to the checkbook to replace a broken folder. I do like the wide variety of designs they offer.

PH in VA you can just put duct tape over the split and the folder works fine.. fyi
I just happen to be in Joanns, and spied the folders for $2 oh my, I was so tickled I bought 6 of them.
Ah yes...I had just gotten a bunch on sale at Consumer Crafts and saw the Joanns sale...isnt that always the case? I have a lot of Darice. Also other brands. Cant say as I have noticed a difference yet in how they work.
As you are starting out, I second the idea of getting 5 x 7 over A2s for background patterns like dots...much more versatile for different card sizes. I just traded out 2 A2s for 5x7s myself.
I got a great idea here..I run a sample of each, punch a hole in the corner and use a large metal ring. I can pick that up and decide which one I want to use and not forget to use them
I am wondering if a fast pass with a fine grain nail file wont fix the cutting problem if it isnt all over the folder? Or the sanding blocks we use for Cordinations paper? I have found heavier paper really does help with it though.
