My friend got this idea from a stampcamp. It looked good. I would think you would be able to color it with your inks and sponge. Also, you can cut it down to make it the width you want. Just an idea.
Yes, Kelly, it is easy to color the dry wall mesh with your ink and sponge. You just go over it several times to get a darker color. The nice thing is that you can leave it a lighter shade if you want to!

This is an awesome tip!!! Never would have thought of this. Just told DH that I needed dry wall tape and he about fell out of his chair, he can't imagine what for. It's so fun to keep him guessing what of his, I may need next. LOL

I use drywall tape too. Purchased a large roll at WalMart. What I do it cut a piece and stick it to wax paper while I rub my ink pad over it (you could probably sponge it too). That way you can color it and it doesn't lose it's stickiness (SP?)
I honestly haven't tried it yet. But when I do, the wax paper tip should come in handy. When we (my friend and I) first heard about this, we were so excited. Anyway to save an extra $$$!!
Some places also carry colored dry wall tape, my sweetie got me a roll of this tape that is Summer Sun in color, no joke, looks so great!! Look around..lol. He can not believe the number of things I make him buy for me at the hardware store now, drywall tape, oderless paint thinner, metal tape, colored duct tape..hehe, will the list ever end?

Another idea for drywall tape is to spray paint it. I had some colors and did some experimenting. Glossy paint does not work well, but flat or matte works great. And the best of all is the silver and gold paint. I used the $1 cans from Walmart, pulled off about a 4 foot strip of tape and loosely laid it on newspaper and sprayed. When it was dry (which was almost immediatley) I lightly rolled the colors up into little rolls and put them in a shoebox. You can get incredibly intense colors with the paint and the metallics look so good.

I've used drywall tape but never colored it because I was worried about it loosing it's stickieness. Love the waxed paper idea.

I can't imagine, so, what's the oderless paint thinner for?

Metal tape? Do you have any card examples with that? How much is it and where in the hardware store do you look for it?
hehe, oderless paint thinner is for use with colored pencils (prismacolor) for making the magic colored pencils technique. The stuff is also called Gamasol. As for the metal tape I have not used it yet, but saw this card that made me want to get it: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
As to where it is found..not sure, my sweetie found it for me and brought it home after me telling him one time that I needed some..lol! Gotta love that man, he remembers everything I tell him!

Love the idea of using metallic spray paints! I tried using metallic pigment inks - what a mess. Even after leaving it sit for 24+ hrs. & then using the heat gun to set/dry it kept rubbing off on my fingers. I finally embossed it with copper EP (over the copper pigment ink. Liked the final effect Will have to try the waxed paper next time! I had to use Elmer's spray adhesive - the 'sticky' on the drywall mesh wouldn't stick & even glue dots didn't work.
A lot of trial & error...but it was worth it (nephew's college grad card & he loved it!)......but discovering new ways to get to where you want to be is part of all the fun {:>))

I bought dry wall tape at Home Depot, but it is fiberglass (kind of plastic-y feeling) and doesn't really 'take' the ink...do I have to keep working at it, or do you gals have a different kind of tape??
Wow! I have a roll of drywall tape in my laundry room? Who knew its potential!? LOL
Just curious.....Has anyone tried their Xyron on the drywall tape for adhesive?
I used dye ink on it the other day. It looked great. I know of people who chalk it also to change the color. It's so much more inexpensive then the real deal.
Here's a card I just did where I used Night of Navy on the drywall tape.
I have used the metal tape to make a cute (mirror) for a compact of which is a bookmark. See my gallery.
I love the idea of the dry wall tape.
Thanks,
Ooops,

You need to use the one that's more like fabric. Also, I've been told the fiberglass kind should not be used in scrapbooks. Perhaps the cloth tape can be treated with that spray that's supposed to fix the pH to make things archival. Also, inhaling the fibers that can become airborne when you cut into the fiberglass tape is bad for you!

I love using drywall tape, several cards in my gallery have it. Another interesting thing to do I found out by pure accident. I had laid my drywall on a piece of white CS and went over it with my ink pad to color the tape, well when I pulled it off the ink had stained the CS in reverse pattern, it looked interesting so I made a card with it.

Look for the metal tape at a local hardware store or HomeDepot, Lowes. It is usually sold in the A/C ducting dept. It is on a roll and is sticky backed. Make sure to get the one that is NOT foam backed. You can cut, emboss with stencils or just use a stylus. You can get a stamp impression if you press hard enough, but it will take permant dye ink also. Lots of fun ideas!
I use the sticky drywall mesh and stipple over it, remove and you have a beautiful woven backgreound also!

Double Stick Carpet Tape!
Stick it down on wax paper, peel off the top. Lay a piece of scrap lace you have laying around on top, make sure it is really stuck. Sprinkle irrediscent ice all over it until it is really coated. Shake off all the excess.
Peel the lace off and sprinkle with a different colored glitter. the colored glitter will stick to where the lace was and you just make a really sparkley lace for an accent for your card.
this works very well with the crack and peel labels you can buy also (and the post office gives away)
the carpet tape also is a great WIDE double stick tape. your imagination can probably help you here!
