Default Do I need special paper with Spectrum Noir markers?

I really want to buy the 72 set of the spectrum Noir markers. Before I make this huge investment, do I need certain card stock/paper? I have never used alcohol markers. By the way is $79 a good deal on a 72 piece set?

That is a good price for the whole set. Joanns sells packs of 6 in different shades of the same color for $14.99 each. Sometimes you can use a coupon for them, but it's a lot of trouble to find the colors you want in stock at the stores.

As far as special paper goes, you can probably get lots of opinions about that.

I use the same white cardstock that I use to make my cards. It is from Sam's Club and is 110 lb weight. I get 250 sheets for about $7, so it is not expensive cardstock, but I think it works very well with markers and for making my cards.

I think Walmart sells a similar cardstock made by Georgia Pacific that lots of people use.

Then there are folks that have their one and only favorite cardstock brand and don't mind about the price. I'm on a limited budget, so whatever works and is relatively inexpensive is what I go with.

I'm personally not a fan of the GP from Walmart, but I do love Hammermill Copy Cover for SN's (look for the specific ream with the picture of the tree frog on the package, there are others but you'll know that's the one). It's $15 a ream but I can never find it in stores. Walmart ships it for 97 cents.

As far as $79 for 72 pens, yes, it's a great price and you should get a variety of colors since that's almost half of them.

Another vote for Hammermill Color Copy Cover! I gave away all of my Neenah and Georgia Pacific after trying Hammermill. I just picked up another ream at Office Depot online for $9.99 for the 80#. (I use Copics, not SN's, but alcohol markers are all the same, right? )

Shhh don't say that too loud. I have all the SN's and Prisma Markers and would love to get som copics but if my husband hears you I'll have no arguement . So far I'm very happy with them and mix both brands.

Oh, but you DO need to add Copics to your collection, because the color range is much larger than the other brands!

And yes, I've heard all the alcohol markers mix beautifully together. I started with Copics though, and have just about completed my collection, so personally, I won't be investing in the others.

I am a total alcohol marker novice, and even I could tell the difference when I tried the Hammermill Color copy mentioned above. The colors blended so much better and didn't bleed.

I just got my order of ultra smooth white card stock for Alcohol markers from Craftar's Companion and I am in love. It is really nice. I also got my untimate storage racks for the Spectrun Noir pens and now I feel so organized I ready to create.

Crafters Companion who sells the Spectrum Noirs has cardstock that is meant to use with the markers. My personal favorite is Gina K base weight white cardstock.

I use HP Premium Presentation paper. I bought a big ream of it at Staples. It will last me a lifetime. I think I paid $15 for it.

Does the Hammermill come in different weights? I get really confused with paper weights.
Not a fan of Georgia Pacific. Maybe I got the wrong kind, but it looks grey next to my Neenah paper which I currently am using,

I believe the Hammermill comes in both 80# and 100#. I have been using the 80#, and LOVE it!

I agree about the GP looking grey. I never liked it.

I did use Neenah for a long time, but it's pricey. When I was running out of it, I decided to find a cheaper alternative, and I came across a recommendation for Hammermill... and the rest is history!

I'm totally addicted to Copic Markers and have all their colours. I use X-Press It Blending Paper.

It is whiter than SU Whisper White and slightly heavier but still feeds through my printer if I want to do digis.

Cheers

I use the Coredinations Smooth white CS available at Joanns (around $2.50 for 50 sheets when at sale). It is 65# so not as thick as other CS but I do love blending on it - it is so smooth! I also have the Crafter's companion CS, it is 80#. It is good but I don't like it as much as I like the Coredinations.

I'm going to try out Hammermill now that so many of you have recommended it! Does it come in bright white?

The package says 100 for brightness, if that means anything.

I held it next to a sheet of Georgia Pacific, and a sheet of Neenah Classic Crest, and it looks brighter white than both of them (to me).

HTH!

Thanks Laura that really helps! I know I find Neenah less bright than I would like it to be so Hammermill might be what I want. Staples here I come

Make sure you get the one with the frog on the package. My local Staples doesn't carry it so I ordered it from Walmart online. There is another version at Staples but it has 500 sheets so it's probably as thin as standard copy paper. The one I recommend only has 250 sheets so it's thicker.

I've used many papers, my old favourite was TEs white CS but now I will only use XPress it and unless they stop making it, I'll never go back!

Wow! So glad I decided to check out this thread! I have purchased a few different colors of the Neenah, and wondered what all the hype was about, since it seemed to bleed on me... thanks ladies! I use Copics, by the way... Can't wait to try the Hammermill.

I vote for XPress Blending card too - every time! No bleeding with red at all unless you really overload. I'm sure its available in the US too. Good price and easily available in Oz. No, don't work for them either!

Hammermill Cover Stock, 8-1/2" x 11", Pack of 250 Sheets: Office : Walmart.com

This is what I have (I think - I'm too lazy to go downstairs and look) that I got at WM. I had purchased some Neenah for way more $$$ than this and cannot tell them apart - and I'd know because they got mixed together!

Don't know if this is the same place the OP got hers, but they have a set of 72 markers for $79.00. It says they will be on vacation until March 4. That is a really good price.

I just ordered Spectrum Noir markers from Stuff 4 Scrapbooking and got 4 boxes of 24 each box, which give me 96 markers. It came to $125.00 which is $31.79 for 24. I just looked on Crafters Companion and it says they are on sale for $145. That is the cheapest I have found them.

I use croygen white or SU Shimmery White with memento ink. No bleeding through the ink lines with alcohol markers.

Great price indeed!

I've been using my Spectrum noir markers for awhile now. I use Gina K Cardstock. It blends super. and doesn't bleed through the paper.

Gina K. cardstock is #1 in my book!

So glad I found this. I have been slowly getting the collection of Spectrum Noir's and new I had to have special paper. But being on a budget I wanted to find the best for my money. So I took a picture of the Hammermill Paper so I can start checking the local stores if I can't find them there then I will order online. I love the Spectrum Noir.

Default Spectrum Noir and paper

Hi all. Have been completely absent since losing my dh last year but hopefully back now,

Have the complete set of markers, and was using GKD paper, but not too fond of the new postage rates to Canada., Am now using the stock from http://http://canuckcrafts.com/mage/...l#.UVRiB1eFWwc and it is the same price Works great with all the markers that are in house here, but since qualifying as a colourist (waiting for my blinkie from them) have been using the SN ones. Check it out.

Had just gotten on here to check out if anyone likes the ultimate set up as am making envelopes for odd sized cards, and was looking into their enveloper. Thanks for any input on them as well.

Shonni, for once I am not going to enable. I purchased the enveloper and did not like it. At all. I felt it was much too difficult to figure out how to do odd-size envelopes on it with the limited number of score channels. For making envelopes, if I want the pointy flaps, I much prefer the Martha Stewart score board, which comes with an insert for the corner to keep your paper on the diagonal. And on my I WANT THIS! list is the new envelope punch contraption from We Are Memory Keepers.

Default Thanks

I went about and checked a bunch of posts and it seems that they are not popular with most who have purchased. Have the MS board, but it dreemed so much less to just choose the line and go for it. Will have to check out we are memory keepers as have to do a list for family. Thanks. That is great to hear., Actually, my markers were from a bad lot, and the woman at Canuck Crafts has been excellent even though purchased from Utah, They are standing behind them and fixing or replacing as found bad, so other than the initial disappointment cannot complain.. Have about 85 copics, but due to my hands find that some days the nib is needed instead of the brush, so these work great those days.
Thanks again for the honesty, would have done the same.

Default ok all you enablers

Checked out the board and seems easy to use.
Thanks guys. Yes I was using Gina's stock, but with the postage to Canada now, tried this from the people at Canuck Crafts so can put in with other stuff as pay exact postage with them, Their alcohol stock is the same price. It is not as glossy think is all.
Now if can figure out how to post the cards, If I put one under baby it got moved, under Christmas, (that was a dog and a gift) for Christmas, it got moved to birthday. Just two examples, but it seemed every one a mail came saying it would be better in another category in the first category drop down, so just quiit. Do you have to use a link in the members gallery one?
