Thanks to both of you for your answers. I've wanted those for a long time! I guess it's time to spend more money

If you are talking about the doily dies, they primarily cut. If, by "emboss," you mean a Spellbinders effect (where parts of the design are cut and other parts are raised areas revealed by a 2nd embossing pass through the machine) then I don't think they'll give you that effect.

The doilies do have a lot of "texture" to them, though, because of the great deal of intricute cutting.

On another note entirely, the doily die looks amazing if you use it just to emboss (that is, run it through an embossing sandwich INSTEAD of cutting).

Other Cheery Lynn dies appear to have more of a Spellbinders-style open-face design where some design parts are created through cutting and others through embossing. But I'm speaking for the doily die that I own from them.

Yes, it's the embossing effect like in the Spellbinders Shapabilities that I'm talking about, where you cut with one pass and emboss in the next. It's the reason why I use the die cutting machines instead of cutting doilies on my Pazzles. I love my Pazzles, but I miss the embossing on doilies and borders and things enough that I'm willing to spend big money on dies.

I understand what you mean. I will say that the doilies I get with the Cheery Lynn dies are SO detailed and have so much texture from the tiny little cuts that they don't seem completely flat. They have the look and feel of good-quality paper doilies you'd buy in a package for serving desserts, etc. (and I can use any weight of paper, including nice hefty cardstock). I wouldn't strictly call them "embossed" but they are beautiful, and not flat-looking, to me.

It might help you to get a sense of how the dies come out if you check out the videos from the lady at Dutch Paper Crafts. She shows samples up close that she has made from each die. Here's a link:

Would love to know how you do that, and what the URL to the site is. I buy loads and loads of dies, and they cost a fortune here in Australia. (I make cards for a local gift store, and am seriously considering selling at craft markets too.)

Nesties are generally $42 each here, and I now buy more Marianne's than anything.

I tend to buy my Nesties from OhMyCrafts in the US as they are 50% cheaper and often more than that.

Thanks so much in anticipation.

Default Marianne Dies

I've bought Marianne Dies from Joan's Garden. www.atjoansgarden.com. Ships quickly and low shipping. Love Marianne Dies and also Cherry Lynn Dies. Scrapbook Supplies, Rubber Stamping & More - Frantic Stamper also sells Marianne dies, but shipping is quite high.

I buy mine from www.cardmaking.net/ in Australia. They have a huge range of both Marianne and other European designers.

Default Spellbinders Lawsuit dismissed

After finding this on searching for Marianne dies, I decided to look for any additional info on it. Just thought I would post/update the findings of the SB lawsuit. It was thrown out and the judge didn't paint a nice picture of the owners. This is very sad for me as I love their dies. I won't stop purchasing them, but I sure don't think much of the owners at this point. What they did was plain wrong and they even got others such as Gina K involved. Here's the link to the official court document:
http://docs.justia.com/cases/federal...?ts=1352877895

This is what the judge had to say:
Moreover, Plaintiffs’ pattern of deception and discovery abuse make it impossible to conduct a trial with any reasonable assurance that the truth will be available. See Anheuser-Busch, 69 F.3d at 352.
Therefore, QuicKutz’s Motion for Terminating Sanctions Based on Discovery
Abuse (Doc. 164) will be granted, dismissing this action with prejudice under the Court’s inherent power as remedy for alleged discovery misconduct by Plaintiffs. (can be found on page 28, line 13).

I think there were 10 mentions of Gina K and the first one was on page 9, line 33 which is when QuicKutz contended that she had a financial relationship with SB.

It is a very good read, but sad to see and difficult to understand why SB would do this when they enjoyed so much success. Why risk it?
