Default Quikutz 4 x 8 alphabet dies

Has anyone used these dies in a Cuttle Bug? They have a great sale at Cut at Home - buy one, get one free.

Thanks!

Yes you can use Quickutz in the cuttlebug

It's the same sandwich that you would use for spellbinders dies.

See the very first post in this thread to a link with a printable sandwich list.

I have used other QK dies in my CB - but I was concerned that the size of the 4 x 8 dies wouldn't work.

It says they require the 12" platform for the Revolution.

Saw something either in this forum or on a blog, about using embossing folders and for example, an oval scallop nestie--wanting to leave a blank space in the embossed area. I thought I remembered how to do it, but I didn't!!! Now I can't find it. Can someone direct me.
Thanks,
Cindy

i must be doing something wrong, tried the double embossing with CB and nesties after watching and rewatching the above video. i keep getting the initial embossing partway into the space that should be blank !

i tried several combos of shims, chipboard/CS....finally gave up.

so i will just appreciate what others have done ! really a neat technique if you can do it right

All the dies will fit but not all the MATS will fit

The Bigz XL dies have to run through the machine TWICE to get the full length of the die.

The Premium Crease Pad and Extended Cutting Pads are TOO WIDE.

Be sure to post and let us know your results. I want to try this, too, but the SU stuff is so expensive! I'll wait to hear if you think it was worth it. Have fun with your new toys!

Kathy - I do believe you are correct that they are a little too wide. However I've seen a couple of posts here (I tried to find the quotes but couldn't) where people were able to alter them to fit. Someone said that their father trimmed off 1/4 inch, someone else said they were able to sand off the edge until it fit.

I don't have any Bigz XLs but I'm interested so I'm absorbing all the info!

Some Bugs will take the dies, and some won't. Some of the Bugs that take the dies, will have breakage issues from using dies that were really designed for a bigger machine. That said, some people have had no problems whatsoever.

If you'll check out the Big Shot FAQ in this same forum, Alicia has a TON of info on how to try making the SU exclusive dies work in your Cuttlebug! Good luck!

I use my 4x8's in my CB. They work fine you just have to make sure you don't have any portion of the letters overhanging the plates or that overhang spot won't cut.

I don't know for sure about the sizzix but I doubt it - because the regular sized CB dies cannot be used in the cuttlekids machine. THe Cuttlekids machine uses smaller dies.

Very cute avatar, btw.

However, I use my Cuttlekids dies in my Cuttlebug all the time. If you have not bought the Cuttlekids machine, I would spend the extra money to get a Cuttlebug. There is a whole list of dies you can use with the bug.

I'm SURE this information is already on here, but when I search this thread, I keep getting an error message. Will the SU dies (like the top note die) work in my cuttlebug, or do I have to purchase the Big Shot? Thanks for any information!

I went to utube and found a bunch of videos, on the different dies. I bought the top note die, but have not tried it in my cuttlebug yet.

I have the top note die and it works PERFECTLY in my CB. I only use the 2 "B" plates, the die and cardstock.

Here is a comparison of Big Shot and Cuttlebug from Julie HRR's marvelous blog.

Here is a fantastic resource on the "sandwiches" you can use for all different brands of dies and texture plates, as well as other media. Cat's Fantastic Sandwich Stack List This is the place to find out which dies you can use. (Hint: pretty much all of them. Some will require a few extra accessories.)

When you die cut, it will leave marks on your cutting plate. This is normal. Eventually, your cutting plate will wear out (Provo Craft says it will do about 500 cuts). Then you will need replacements. You should be able to get those at a Michael's, or ask the online retailer where you purchased your Bug.

Eventually, you may want to use brass templates or texture plates. You can use the homemade sandwich described in Cat's Sandwich chart, or you can purchase a Wizard Charm Kit or a BISK (Big Impressions Starter Kit). These kits contain thin, soft rubber sheets ("plates") that allow the embossing to occur with brass templates or texture plates. These kits are available at many of the online vendors listed below.

Vendors (this list cannot be complete *ever*, but this is a sampling)

Michael's and Joann's stores (not Joann.com)
They take coupons on the Cuttlebug, but you may have to explain that the Cuttlebug is NOT a Cricut product, just made by Provo Craft

Online Vendors recommended by SCS users:
Busy Bee Scrapbooking
http://busybeescrapbooking.com

Happy Scrappin' Scrapbooking
http://www.happyscrappinscrapbooking.com/

Paper Dreams Store
http://www.paperdreamsstore.com
(good selection, but the website does not notify you when things are out of stock)

Ellison
http://www.ellisondesign.com/
(a little higher priced, but have BISK and other somewhat unusual dies/plates)

Joann.com
http://www.joann.com
(often will not accept coupons on any die cut stuff, including Cuttlebug. does not always notify you that things are out of stock until much later.)

All That Scraps
http://www.allthatscraps.com/

Can anyone help me with the "stacking formula" I can use to avoid the lines that are made when using the border embossing folders? I know I need a plumbers gasket, which I have, but I forget which goes first. Thanks in advance.

Default Work around for Bigz Dies and Cuttlebug

Jane on the DieCutsAll yahoo group recommended this possible solution:

I cannot believe I didn't think to try this earlier. Smacking my hand to my forehead.

Anyways, if you have a yen for cutting those long dies but don't want to cut in more than one pass, you can sub out your B plates for Accucut commercial 5" x 15" mats. Okay, so they aren't as wide as the die, but guess what? The actual designs on the dies usually fit within this 5" wide area. And the length is longer than any personal die on the market at this time.

These are the plates:

http://www.accucut.com/Cutting_Plast...ath1,904.html?

The Accucut cutting plastic mats are the same thickness as the Cuttlebug B mats.

Remember--this would be out of warranty and at your own risk should you attempt this solution. I just happened to have the mats handy because I have a commercial machine..... I have not tried it with the new lavender mats, so I can't help you there. $6 for a pair plus shipping of about $8--and there is stuff you could buy to CUT (not the dies, unless you own a commercial machine, too.)--such as heavy acetate or chipboard if you want to stretch your shipping dollars (it's the same amount until you buy $115 worth of stuff).

Jane in San Diego

A Plate
C Plate
Die
Cardstock
B Plate

basically the "wafer thin" die sandwich that you use for Quickutz and Spellbinders

Hi Everyone:
I have an interview with Provo craft on my blog, where I ask them questions regarding the rumor of Cuttlebug being discontinued.
You can read all the info at cuttlebugchallenge
http://cuttlebugchallenge.blogspot.c...ouncement.html

Please a comment on what changes and folders you would like to see. They will be reading the comments.
Thanks

Default CB interview

I tried to post a comment, but I don't have a Google/blogger account and you can't comment without that identity. Someone PULEEZE go and make a comment about the SIZE of the embossing folders! They should be larger so as to cover the front of an A2 card front! This is our chance to be heard, but they can't hear me because I don't have a blog!
