Default Adhering ribbon to CB embossed CS

I posted this over in the Tool & Product Talk as well... Hope that's not bad etiquette. If it is, I apologize!

I know this seems like an odd question... But I'm baffled!

I bought myself a Bug for Christmas (YAY!) and have been making cards like a crazy woman since... But today I was looking through the stack of finished cards and noticed that all the ribbon is coming off! What is up with that??? I'm using the same double sided permanent adhesive tape that I've always used. (It's just the Adtech stuff from Walmart, but it's super sticky...) I don't get it. Has anyone had this happen to them? I know there's less surface area on embossed paper for the adhesive to cling to, but still...

Any input/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Angela

Angela, it probably is the reduced surface area. The Tombo Multi works really well, or glue dots!

I've not noticed this, but some of my friends have and they use some sticky stuff they got at the hardware store! Also, check out the tutorial for a non slip ribbon - it is tied so no adhesive required. Good luck!

I agree with Amy. Also, don't know the design of your card or where the ribbon goes, but I always wrap my ribbon across the card front, then scotch tape the ends on the back. I don't actually glue the ribbon to the card.

Default Clean cuts with the small Sizzix - any suggestions?

I agree with Jan R (her quote below) I have just bought the Decorative Accents - a wonderful looking flourish but am ahve the dickens of a time getting it to cut cleanly. Has anyone been successful. If I use too many card layers to cut then I get the embossed image of the foam surrounding the cuts as well as an unclean cut.

I have tried various sandwiches and will keep on trying till I come up with something! LOL.

Hi Amy I am new to this forum/thread stuff...lol. bear with me.
I have a cuttlebug and SU now has these beautiful dies (top note and scallop envelope)bigz dies. Am I able to use these or any of their other dies in my cuttlebug? I/m asking because I do not want to buy these and find out I am not able to use or they break CB. Any input would be greatful thanks

You can definitely use the SU Sizzix dies in your Cuttlebug I have the Top Note and snowflake dies and I use them all the time in my Cuttlebug. Your plates will eventually break, from use, but not because of these dies. I have a spare set of plates, since I use my CB a lot and don't want to be without plates when they finally quit I hope this answers your question. Enjoy the SU dies in your CB

yes, thanks so much!! A friend of mine had sent me a link stating that the bigz dies could break cuttlebug, and I have also heard the opposite, so I just wanted to make sure. Yeah! Although my pocket book will not like it..lol
I'll be ordering it this Friday at my stamp club .
Again thanks so much for the info..

Thanks flemings.

Yes, you can use the Bigz dies in your Bug. Sizzix has a disclaimer, though, that the Bigz and Bigz XL are designed for the larger Big Shot machine, so they may damage a Cuttlebug.

I was going to order some of the Bigz dies from SU and called the company to see if they would work with the cuttlebug...the lady told me they are too big to fit in the bug .She told me she had tried some in hers and they would not go through.

I understand that Bigz dies fit in cuttlebug,
but BigXL may not.
According to some of the posts here, the cutting pad can be trimmed 1/8 inch to fit the cbug.
I have the pillow box die and no problem in my cbug.
I have just ordered the scalloped envie die.
I guess if my cbug breaks, then I will have to break down and get the big shot!

Hmm, the Bigz dies work in my 'Bug, too.

But I can see that perhaps the Bigz XL might not ... they appear to be too wide for the 'Bug.

But I'll try anything twice ... and if the Bug dies, I'll just have to spring for the new Big Shot. I want a Hello Kitty one ... lol!

Thanks for the information. I also have the Cuttlebug and do not wish to buy the Big Shot just yet. I am very happy to learn that some of the SU dies will work.

Yes, they do. More info here:

And I crank it all the way through and then back and that seems to help make the impression a little deeper.

So is there a special "sandwich" order for using the SU Sizzix dies in the CB? Do I need A, B, and C plates?

I note members saying they use plumber's rubber gasket instead of the tan embossing mat when using nestabilities in the bug. Do any of the Aussie members know where we can get that in Australia. I have asked at major hardware stores and they have no idea what I am talking about!

Google "YouTube Cuttlebug" or "YouTube Cuttlebug embossing"
On the side bars there are a gazillion videos on how to use it

Me too! I just got mine yesterday. Couldn't resist that 50% off. I tried all the embossing folders I have already and it worked just fine. I think trying to use all the different dies is more complicated, so I haven't bought any of them yet. Does anyone have their favorites that they would recommend?

Don't rush in and buy too many dies to start with. I bought a lot (when the Aussie dollar was good from your Ebay) but I find I don't use some very much. I jumped in and bought all the alphas, but find I just mostly use Olivia, Red Tag and Hippy Chick. I use the cut and emboss butterfly, sliders, 3x3 circle, flowers and vintage the most. I have just ordered the 3x3 square too. A friend had a couple of Xmas ones I want to get eventually, they are the combo ice crystal and treetops. I also have the combos "brthday wishes" and "Welcome baby" but I use the embossing folders from them more than the dies. I have lots of the embossing folders and still a couple more on my wish list. I guess a lot depends on what you are doing in the way of scrapping or cardmaking as to what you would use. I am really hanging out to get some Nestabilities when I can. I hope this info helps you.

hi I'm an aussie too. I use a silicon baking mat that I got from the Reject Shop for about $5. I cut it down to size so I got more than one mat. I also use it for the Fiskars texture plates.

Default Sizzix BIGZ TOP Note die cut from SU on Cuttlebug

I love my cuttle bug. I am also a SU demonstrator. I don't have alot of use for the Big Shot, but there are a few dies I like. I wos wondering is anyone out there has tried the Bigz TOP NOTE die cut in there cuttlebug machine. Also, any of the other die cut/embosslets that SU offers. I am mostly concerned with the BIGZ TOP NOTE die cut though.

PLEASE let me know.

HI!

YES!!!!!! I use the BIGZ Top Note die ALL the time in my Cuttlebug and LOVE it!!! I also use the Pillow box (I had to cut the crease pad to fit the Cuttlebug. I use scissors to cut it--very easy!) and snowflake die in my Cuttlebug. They work GREAT!!!! The extra long ones will fit, but the plates are too wide. I need to find a way to cut the plate down so I can use the extra long die in my Cuttlebug. I hope this helps! Enjoy!!!!!!

I would like to know if there is any truth in the fact that the cuttlebug is to be no more.as Someone on uk site as said that the maker of the cuttle bug has gone bust and that provocraft have no other makers in the pipeline, I have contacted Uk sellers and they do not seem to know much about this just that there is a problem with getting stock. I would like to know for sure as I saved up for while for my cuttle bug and if it is true need to stock up on dies and folders while the uk still has them
many thanks Jan

What is the "sandwich order" for the Cuttlekids dies? They seem to be thinner than the regular CB dies and the package says that they work best with the Cuttlekids machine.

i am wondering if Provo Craft would sell/give me a replacement piece...

Are you sure it was caused by shipping?
There are two woman on the Cuttlebug Chat ( part of Cuttlebug spot) that have had the same part break. One has a picture of her broken bug under the thread "Busted"
If it is a manufacturer's defect then I am sure Provo Craft will replace it. The machines are warranted for 1 year.
