I noticed in almost every tutorial that I have seen online, they use scalloped oval nestibilities. All I ever see are the Cuttlebug/Kids, and Sizzix and I never see a decent sized oval or circle - Are you guys all getting these from a common place that I am unaware of. I only have looked at AC MOORE and M's.

Thank you in advance

has great deals on the Nestabilities. Join their VIP club (it's free, and they're very reliable) and get a 40% off coupon every month! Makes those nesties more affordable.

I vote for www.cut@home.com, also. Can't beat Marcie's prices with that coupon. The coupon code comes in an email and all you do is enter the code when you make your purchase.

Thanks, Amy. I was starting to do it that way and found that there was so much waste that I figured there was a better way or there were other die cuts for the facial features etc. I shall carry on then. Thanks, again.

From bottom to top:
A Plate
Texture Plate
Cardstock - misted with water, mist-side down
tan embossing pad (wizard or similar) x2!
Chipboard shim - from a cereal box i think
B Plate

Love the look, but only if you mist first! I use a heat gun to dry it out, and you can actually press it beneath something heavy without ruining your original impression!

HTH
So do you need to buy the impressions pad and the silicone rubber that the SU catalog refers to for the texturz plates?

Thank you Amy. I will check that site out right now! The cuttlebug diecuts at Michaels are really pretty sparse.

PS - I have been spending WAY too much money since I have found this website/message board. Which is actually kinda scary with this economy. Oops - But a girl has gotta have a hobby.

WOW - That website is great. It has explanation for every product (which is great b/c I really wanted to know more about copic markers). Although it does say, "VIP coupon is not valid on any Provocraft items. " - But I suppose that isnt true???

I'm not sure about the SU pads, but you need something 'squishy'. It helps to push the paper into the design, and if it's wet, it 'smooshes' even better. (Gotta love the technical terms, right?) Wizard, the company that makes spellbinders and nestabilities, makes a set of 2 tan embossing mats that are just slightly smaller than most texture plates. I use both of them. It looks like the SU ones are similar, but I'm not sure what the difference in the two are. Anyone else able to enlighten us out there? Why do you need two different ones?

Just got my bug today!! Can't wait to play and read some of these posts---but not all!!!!!

It's already 8:45 at night here, and after a trip to Dubai, it's bed time. Will be up early tomorrow morning to try my new toy!!

I've not looked in stores for Nesties, but did look on line. I bought 2 sets today--the oval scallops and square scallops. I paid about $35 u.s. dollars for each set. Did I get "taken"??? Of course, over here, most stuff like that is more expensive--I'm afraid to tell you what I had to pay for the machine!!!!

I think the nestabilities (oval scallops) are high 20's at the website posted above (cutathome.com) but you can use a 40% coupon if you sign up for their VIP club.

Another question that I am sure has been asked and answered but I just can't find it and can't remember! Can you use the Sisix dies in the cuttlebug? They are on sale at Joann's this week and I saw some really cute ones. The side of the box says you can use a Sisix machine or a Big Shot (neither of which I own). I was hoping to extrapolate since I know you can use the Big Shot dies in the cuttlebug that maybe you can use Sisix, too? Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
Not a question but thought this might peek your interest. I've come across a swap for anyone interested in having some embossed cardstock but do not have the A2 cuttlebug embossing folder they need. It will be my first time trying a swap. It is really quite exciting. Here is the link if you are interested in the details.

How do I use my embossing folders to do the middle of the face of the card and not the whole piece? I would like blank on top and bottom and the embossing in the middle.

Cover the places you don't want embossed with scrap cardstock. Test it. Try 1 or 2 pieces in each place.

I don't know if this is a solution, but I am going to and see if my glass store can cut some plexiglass for different configurations. They cut this all the time for safety windows. If you had a small plate in the middle I think that would be all that would be imbossed. If I try it, I will post results. Just an idea.

In regard to using Sizzix dies in the bug, I have found that the larger Sizzix originals (the thicker ones with the red base) work really well. I also have some smaller ones that are the same thickness as the bug dies and the only ones I have had a problem with are the word ones, "happy birthday" etc. They don't cut through cleanly and I have to spend time separating them. I have tried various sandwiches and will keep on trying till I come up with something! LOL.

how are people using the little cuttlebug folders in the middle of the card - for example the heart embossing folder. it's too small to reach to the middle so i am very confused. also, how do you emboss a larger area with the embossing A2 folders - ie: i was trying a 5 x 5 square but couldn't emboss both sides to make a smooth embossed piece without covering up some part in the middle or double embossing the middle! i really hope you understand what i'm writing lol and would appreciate any help.

For the little embossing folders I emboss on a small piece of card stock and mount it on the card with some sort of decorative edge. Often mounting it slightly above the card.

that's how i was doing it too but i've seen some cards with the small embossing cards done in the middle somehow without any cutting. for example there's one card (don't remember who's) with embossing on both sides of the white cardstock and the middle is plain except for a heart which looks like the same one from the small folders. any idea on how that was done? thanks for your reply.

You could use the smaller embossing folders. Or, you could emboss your card stock and then cut it out to fit the middle of your card and layer it in.

Default Adhering ribbon to CB embossed CS

I posted this over in the Tool & Product Talk as well... Hope that's not bad etiquette. If it is, I apologize!

I know this seems like an odd question... But I'm baffled!

I bought myself a Bug for Christmas (YAY!) and have been making cards like a crazy woman since... But today I was looking through the stack of finished cards and noticed that all the ribbon is coming off! What is up with that??? I'm using the same double sided permanent adhesive tape that I've always used. (It's just the Adtech stuff from Walmart, but it's super sticky...) I don't get it. Has anyone had this happen to them? I know there's less surface area on embossed paper for the adhesive to cling to, but still...

Any input/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Angela

Angela, it probably is the reduced surface area. The Tombo Multi works really well, or glue dots!

I've not noticed this, but some of my friends have and they use some sticky stuff they got at the hardware store! Also, check out the tutorial for a non slip ribbon - it is tied so no adhesive required. Good luck!

I agree with Amy. Also, don't know the design of your card or where the ribbon goes, but I always wrap my ribbon across the card front, then scotch tape the ends on the back. I don't actually glue the ribbon to the card.

Default Clean cuts with the small Sizzix - any suggestions?

I agree with Jan R (her quote below) I have just bought the Decorative Accents - a wonderful looking flourish but am ahve the dickens of a time getting it to cut cleanly. Has anyone been successful. If I use too many card layers to cut then I get the embossed image of the foam surrounding the cuts as well as an unclean cut.

You can definitely use the SU Sizzix dies in your Cuttlebug I have the Top Note and snowflake dies and I use them all the time in my Cuttlebug. Your plates will eventually break, from use, but not because of these dies. I have a spare set of plates, since I use my CB a lot and don't want to be without plates when they finally quit I hope this answers your question. Enjoy the SU dies in your CB

yes, thanks so much!! A friend of mine had sent me a link stating that the bigz dies could break cuttlebug, and I have also heard the opposite, so I just wanted to make sure. Yeah! Although my pocket book will not like it..lol
I'll be ordering it this Friday at my stamp club .
Again thanks so much for the info..
