Billie, wanted to add if you are interested in alphabets, check out the new Cuttlekids alphabets. They only seem to be available online (haven't seen them in the stores), but they will fit in the Cuttlebug and are quite a lot cheaper than the Cuttlebug alphas.

Here's a link:

Sorry to be such an enabler.

Hi BillieDee! I agree, I would get some generic embossing folders (swirls, flowers, the new paisley and dots look cute too), even though you have templates. These work well for backgrounds and really make cards look elegant and beautifully put together. As for die cuts, maybe the tiny tags and flower dies, they are always useful. Hope this helps!

I found a 40% off coup for Hobby Lobby that expires today ... so I may just HAVE to run over there (again).

Make sure you check out eBay for you buy your alphabets anywhere else. You can get them for around $20 (some with free shipping). I think I paid from $13.50 to $30 for the alphabets that I had. Check at Provo Craft's website to see what extra shapes come with each of the alphabets to help you decide which to get.

Ok, so I'm thinking of getting a Cuttlekid for my daughter. I don't have the cuttlebug, but do the regular die cuts or embossing folders work for that? Or vice versa?

The Cuttlekids stuff will work in the Bug, but the Bug stuff won't work in the Cuttlekids. Safety design factors, I think.

I am now a proud bug owner!! I was finally able to play with it last night, and I think I am going to love it!!!!

I realize that when using dies that it does cut the "B", but man I sure didn't realize how much! yiikes! Do you use a separate "B" just for the dies and another for the folders? If so I guess I am going shopping again!! lol

One question tho. I bought the sliders cutting die, and the oval one does not cut all the way thru even just on plain paper, let alone the chipboard I tried. I put the sandwich thru 3 times trying it on different spots on the pad, to no avail. I then tried the square slider and it worked just fine. Did I get a dud? Should I return it and try again? (the die I mean)

tia!!

You really do need a couple of embossing folders to go with it. They have them at Michaels and Hobby Lobby and they don't cost much.

I like some of the die cuts with the Bug, but my favorite feature is the embossing. It is simple and makes your cards look so professional and elegant.

I would recommend getting D'Vine Swirls for a basic embossing folder if you can just get one at a time. If you're making a birthday card, they have a darling birthday embossing folder.

Have fun!
I bought a D'Vine Swirls folder the day after I bought my very own CB (using the 50% off coupon at Micheal's - Labor day sale). You're right. The Swirls folder is so versatile - B-day, wedding, thank you, sympathy, even as a bg for Christmas cards. I had so much fun embossing paper that day! Now I need to buy some dies.

I think you did get a dud. You could either return it, and hope you get a non-defective one next, or call Provo Craft directly.

Default Buying dies

I saw the earlier blog on where to buy the dies for my Cuttlebug. I just got mine and can't wait to start using it. I saw that Michaels carries the embossing dies for around $6. With the coupon, they are $3.60 each. Can anyone tell me what they think of the service and shipping delivery/cost of the online sites for materials needed for the Cuttlebug? Also, any new sites?
I am trying to see if I should just go to Michaels and use the coupons or shop online. I am a stay at home mom and of course convenience is the key at the right price.

Thanks for your help! Not sure why I did not buy this item earlier!

i would start with michaels using their coupon (they honor joann's coupons as well) unless the drive is long....getting surprises in the mail is fun if you can exercise "delayed gratification"....that's a tough one for me. i want it NOW!

allthatscraps.com has a great selection and they are good for shipping quickly. they also have the older embossing folders for a good price now and i think shipping is free if the order is >$10.....they send emails regularly and now are showing the newest embossing folders (waitlist only as they are not out yet)

our michaels isnt at the cutting edge of what's new !!

either way you will be a happy girl playing with your bug ! enjoy

The Bug will cut chipboard if used with the correct type of die. Cuttlebug dies, Sizzix Originals, and Ellison Thickutz will cut chipboard. (There may be others that I haven't used.) Sizzlits will *not* cut chipboard.

You should be able to use the same stack you used for cardstock. If your Bug is really new, it probably isn't broken in yet and will be very tight when cutting chipboard. Try regular chipboard (like cereal boxes) before trying to cut the coasters. Good luck!

The cbug sure is fun to use. I'm really decorating my b plate . I even made my first boo boo! I got so excited at the price of an alphabet on Ebay - that I bid and won! Then realized I'd bought that alphabet yesterday. GAH!

After buying my Bug yesterday, and reading through three pages of this thread-on-steroids, I have a question - WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR MY NEW MEDICATION???

But seriously, this is an awesome thread, but I just can't get through every posting, so I'm going to risk duplicating someone else and ask: Are there any dies or embossing folders that WILL NOT work in the Bug? I see from Cat's sandwich list that every die/folder that I have heard of is listed, so can I go ahead and buy anything I want, or do I need to stay away from anything?

TIA!

But, but . . . you should have seen our other *bigger* thread! LOL

Yeah, I think every die works in the Bug. Go for it. I haven't heard of any that don't work. The only trick is, some of them only cut paper and cardstock, not chipboard/cardboard. That's the only thing to watch.

I am assuming that some people who looks at this thread might not have a Cuttlebug and are still contemplating on buying one, or waiting for just the right sale. Well, I just wanted to inform you all that Hobby Lobby this week 10-01-07 thru 10-06-07 has the entire stock of cuttlebug products priced at 30% off.

I just wanted to let you all know about the sale this week. Have a great day!!!

Hello all....

Proud new bug owner! It's the only bug I love!

I got it for 30% off...then picked up 2 embossing templates (snowflakes and flowers) and also 2 dies - also 30% off.....YAY!

I am so happy it works with the sizzix dies (I Didn't find this out until after getting it!!!) ...I have 2 sizzix alphabets I am too lazy to use b/c the sizzix is under the bed somewhere...LOL

for those of you that have it - any must-have dies for cards? I thought the ones that came with it (look like postage stamps) were super cute!

Since I spoiled my folks plans to get me one for christmas...I now need a die/embossing folder wishlist!

Oh, I think I love all the full-sized embossing folders! Swirls, dots, stylized flowers, snowflakes, . . . Yup, I love 'em all! For dies, I think flowers 1 (these are the ones you'll see on the big clippies everyone is doing), asterisks, tiny tags or sliders, and then whatever seasonal ones you like. I find there are more Sizzix dies I like than Cuttlebug, now that I have all the basics. I like the larger shapes.

Question Nestabilities

I caught the bug. I have the nestabilities without the charm kit. I used the sandwich that was suggested here by someone sorry I can't remember names The die stuck to my plate so bad I didn't think I would get it off. Is there something else I could use beside the charm kit? What did I do wrong?

Yes, I just emailed. I kind of thought I would have a quicker response time here, though, so that is why I didn't do it earlier. I will post her response once I get it.

Thanks!

Default Got my Cuttlebug today!

I've been wanting a Cuttlebug since July, and today, I finally got it for my birthday! Went with my sister to pick it out. We got it at M's for a steal! Used a 50% off coupon, originally was 79.99, got it for $42!
Also picked up an embossing folder at M's and one at J's for 50% off.
Can't wait to start using it!
I've got my wish list made for the next dies and embossing folders I want!

I just got home from buying the CB at Michael's, using the 50 percent off coupon that is good through today only. The cashier didn't question using the coupon at all. I was so excited!!! Now I'm here.....staring at the thing........feeling a bit intimated by it all. I bought two embossing folders. I was going to buy more but I was overwhelmed by all the dies. I've read here thatI can use all the dies regardless of who makes them, but I was worried that I had to buy something else to use the other dies, like an adapter or something. What should I buy first for dies or things? Are any dies on sale? Why is there a B and a C cutting pad? And most importantly, how do I hide the box from my husband? LOL

Yea! for your new Bug!

As far as hiding from your hubby, you're on your own. I've been married a long time, and I'm lucky that mine doesn't pay much attention most of the time.

The first thing you need to do - and this is important. Get the little instruction book and READ it. Then KEEP it handy to refer to.

This is really a simple machine to operate, but you do need to pay attention to which plate goes where, and whether your paper faces up or down.

I have more of the embossing folders than I do the die cuts, but that's just my style. The dies I do have are only the Cuttlebug kind and I've enjoyed using them. The dies I use the most are the set of 4 different sized scalloped flowers and the ribbon slider dies. They are very versatile and can be used in a lot of ways.

Just take your time and follow the instructions and you will be Buggy in no time at all. Have fun.
