Default Cricut Vinyl Question

I need some advisement...

I have only used my Cricut a handful of times and my mom is wanting to use it for vinyl words/lettering. What she is wanting is pretty straightforward so I'm okay there. However, my question is about the vinyl. What are the pros/cons of using the Cricut brand vinyl? Is there a benefit to only using that brand? Could I use a different brand and just cut down to size?

Just trying to weigh my options on this. We're trying to be "cost effective" and while what we're using it for the Cricut vinyl wouldn't be a huge investment, didn't know what my other options were.

I appreciate your thoughts!!

I've been told Cricut vinyl is the same as Oracle 531. You can find it online many places including signwarehouse.com for a LOT less than cricut vinyl.

I buy vinyl at one of the local sign shops $1 for 12 x 24 sheet and I personally think it's just as good as the Cricut stuff just much cheeper and better color selection.

I did my homework and found that hhsignsupply has the best prices. You can get 30 feet for 8 something verses 4 feet in the cricut package for 10.00. They have indoor and outdoor plus lots more.
