I just purchased the Expression yesterday after doing a demo on it in AC Moore. During demo I only used 12x12 sticky mat.

Now at home I am trying to use a 12x6 sticky mat. When it starts to cut the mat moves so I have to stop it.

Am I not able to use the small 12x6 mat? Must I only use 12x12 as the smallest size mat?

If I can use the 12x6 mat, how do I position it so that it stays straight as machine is cutting?

Any help or info would be appreciated.

The 12x6 mat is made specifically for the original Cricut and is not of use on the Expression. The 12x12 and the 12x24 mats are made for the Expression. Why would you want to use the 12x6? You can put ANY size on the other mats.

Shell.......Thanks for your reply. After making my post, I went to the Cricut website and watched the 3 videos on the Expression. I found the info as you told me also that you can't use the 12x6 mat.

The reason for my inquiry is that I have 8 packages of the 12x6 mats and of course don't want to waste them. I'll just have to utilize the original Cricut for smaller projects so that I can use the smaller mats. Oh well, I tried!

Gale.......I don't think cutting the smaller mat to fit would be a good idea, but I'm sure someone has done, just not me.

Thanks again to both of you for responding to my inquiry.

Patti

By the way.......If anyone is new to the Expression, I would suggest taking the time to watch the videos for the machine to get a good background. There are 3 ....Intro through Advanced. I found them to be excellent.

gale.......Thanks Gale. I am not one to sell my craft items. I would give them away before I would sell things. I can use these mats in my original Cricut anyway.

I still have my original bug and still use my little mats. I find the little one handy to use for my smaller projects. I don't have as many mats for my Ebug, and they are a bit more expensive. It's good for me to still use the little bug from time to time.

I'm glad you found the videos and that you were able to use them. Can't wait to see what you create with your new big bug!!!

Thanks for your comments ladies. The additional features of this machine are amazing. If I function with 3 printers for my computer, I guess I can function with both Cricuts.

Now I need my local AC Moore store to run a sale on the Cricut items so I can purchase a bunch of 12x12 mats. At least I have 3 stores in my driving area. Wouldn't take the chance of internet ordering. Don't want them bent in shipping.

Can't use coupons on Cricut items, but I can use my Rewards certificate!

I would try to use your coupon....they have gone through when I use them, for paper, markers, mats etc. just not the carts...

Lucky you!!!! I don't have an A.C. Moore anywhere close to me. The nearest one is about 1 1/2 hours away. So sad.

craftsrlb.....Coupons from AC Moore and Michaels state directly on them that they are not valid for all Cricut products. Can't get around that, just have to live with it. AC Moore does put the Cricut items on sale quite frequently
though.

Exception.....AC Moore Rewards certificates are valid for Cricut products though.

How can I find a list of retired cartridges?

How old is the Cricut unit? What year did it come out?

Does everyone know that on www.costco.com that the Cricut Expression is $279.99 with s/h included?

And that many cartridges are $59.99...

Good thoughts for Christmas

While I love costco I think you can do better on cartridges elsewhere.

http://www.scrappersmusthaves.com/cr...artridges.html Has cartridges as low as $29.95.

Don't pay $59.99 unless it is one of the newer cartridge. Scrappers Must Have has excellent customer service. I have nevered ordered from Creative Express but I have heard great thing about them too.

I believe the Cricut came out in 2006. As far as I know, NONE of the carts are 'retired' as of yet.

The Cricut Expression came out last year, I think, and the Cricut Create came out this year.

Ink? there is ink? I'm even more new than you! lol

I know I saw on the Cricut website, this video of how the Cricut works. Now the weird thing is that they were holding up a mickey mouse and he was all "colored"....i didn't get it. Wouldn't you have to cut the shoes in one color, pants in another, mickey himself, his face, etc?

Default cricut ink

you insert the markers just like you did the blade assembly....the marker will draw the object, switch to the blade again, and it will cut it out just outside the marker so you have a border on your item....play with it, its fun.

Yes. BUT that's really easy if you have the design studio. You can cut all of the pieces at one time.

Hi, I am new to dye cutting also, and I too am confused about how to get things looking like they are in the pictures. Do you have to have the markers to make all the colors? Or Do you cut the same things in differents colors and overlap them some how. For example I just bought the expression and on the front of the cart. that came with it there is a picture of grass with flowers growing out of it. How do you get the flower and the stems and the grass all to be different colors?

I'm sure this is something really basic that I just don't know, but I've been online ALL DAY today and I can't find how to do this any where. Can somebody PLEASE explain the process to me or tell me where I can go to find more information?

No, you cut them in different colors and paper piece them.

Usually the book that comes with the cart will have a little bit of detail inside showing how to do that. Let me know if you need more help.

Hello All - I am new to the thread but have been lovin my expression for a couple of months now. I'm hoping someone on here has the answer to my problem/question...

for christmas I am making my coworkers some candy and I am looking for a box to cut out using my cricut. I don't seem to have what I am looking for on my cartridges. I am looking for something like a little fudge box. Like the square box you can make on Bags Tags but in a rectangle shape. Or even a two piece top and bottom box like a shirt box.

Does any cricut cart have anything like what I am looking for? Thanks so much for any and all help.

PS Found this on another thread here on SCS and thought y'all would like to see it in case you hadn't yet, its regarding Michaels Sale Thanksgiving and day after

Quote:
I was in my local M's today which unfortunately isn't the new
prototype, but I ran into someone I know who works there. She had the
Thanksgiving Day (yes the day of Thanksgiving they will be open from
6-9pm) ad
. She folded it up and handed it to me. Here is the damage-

All Cricut carts will be only $29.99!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is freaking
amazing!

The Cricut Create, the inbetween the regular Cricut and Expression
will only be $149!!! That is 50% off. They are usually $299.

The Cricut Juke Box will be only $49.99 down from $99.99

All Storage cubes are 40% off- not bad if you want to buy a bunch in
one day with no coupons.

All wood rubber stamps will be 50% off

From what I have read around town its ALL cricut carts on sale for 29. I gues that would include the Design solution if they have it in the store. I know that my Mikes has the WORST selection of Cricut carts. I only want two of them but chances of my finding them are really bad. But I keep crossing my fingers!

Default Cricut Deep Cut Blade

I have a new Expression and also bought the deep cut blade to cut craft foam (the kid's stuff), chipboard, etc. Even on the highest settings it will not cut through thin chipboard or craft foam. Has anyone purchased this and had success using it? Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Default Another question

I just saw online an ad from Brandi Gore for a CD (or DVD, not sure) called "Learning the Cricut DS" which purports to give all the answers to how to make the Design Studio work for you quickly so you don't end up wasting time and supplies. The cost for this helpful guide is $37. Has anyone tried this?

Default Answer my own question....duh!

Because I wanted to purchase the Design Studio Cartridge, I looked again at the ad for Cricut Design Studio help. It is an "ebook" with over an hour of "tutorial videos." It is not a DVD or CD.

After looking at that ad I went to the Cricut message boards about the Design Studio Cartridge and have decided NOT to purchase DS cartridge at all. SO many people are having SO MANY problems with it ~ not worth the hassle in my opinion. Is there anyone using Design Studio happily?

I have DS and I don't have problems with it at all. I'm not a great computer operator or anything like that. My computer is old and slow and still it works. All you really need to do is just sit down and play.
First I started with the free copy that only worked George and Keystone, the cartridges that came with my machine. You can only cut what comes with your machine, but you can play with all the cartridge shapes. I'd stretch, squish, spread, shrink and slant away. I pushed buttons until I found out what they did. I got frustrated, but I kept trying. Eventually I figured out how to weld, and save my files. I even figured out how to download and save other files, and actually cut with them.
I still know so little about the DS that it's embarrassing, but I can tell you this, I no longer wish to upgrade my OBug for the EBug. I can do all I want by manipulating images before cutting.
I don't have any interest in the SCAL at this time, but maybe I will down the road.
Just take the free one for a test drive.

Default New cricut owner with question

Hi everyone

I have been lurking for quite a while, trying to get answers to questions that I have being anew cricut expression owner.

Is it possible to duplicate or make similar cuts using the SYI cartridge for "mats" or frames with scalloped borders, like those with either the spellbinders or nestabilities dies? If not SYI is there something in accents essentials? I do not have the DStudio software, do I need that?

Any help is appreciated!

Do you have the regular Cricut or the Expression? The Ebug will let you 'fill' the page with whatever shape you want. The little bug will not.

Whether you use it for this or for other things, you DEFINITELY need the Design Studio. It's a wonderful, fantastic, creative tool that every Cricut owner really needs. It opens up amazing options with your bugs.

To the poster who asked about Design Studio: I have it and use it with the original Cricut, and I really like it. You don't need to pay $37 for an e-book. I must be one of the only people who bought DS who found that the manual it came with was fine. DS doesn't do everything, and PC should make some updates, but it is definitely worth the money I paid for it ($59 at the time).

To the poster who asked about the Deep Cut Blade & Housing: I've heard only bad things about this. No one has reported any success in using it to cut chipboard or other heavy materials. I can cut chipboard with my regular blade, if I repeat the cut 4 or 5 times and use thin chipboard. I usually do that and glue several layers together. (Or I just use my Big Kick.)

HTH, ladies.

Thank you so much for your response about Design Studio; I may consider it after all. TFS.

Does anyone know if there is a cartridge with a pillow box? Tags, bags boxes and more do not. ...
the pillow box die from SU/Sizzix may not be the right size for me; I'd like to have options. TIA, gail
