I have a bit a $$$ to spend and would like to get a few Cricut cartridges. I went to Michael's yesterday and they didn't have any on sale. So I was looking through Amazon last night. But before making my purchase I decided to pop on over here and ask if you know of a reliable place to purchase carts online (and who would have the best price)

scrapbookpal.com is great and no shipping if you spend over $25.00. Fast delivery too.

Maslex, "A Child's Year" is another one that includes pretty much all holidays and seasons within one cartridge. It's a nice go-to.

This is a total long-shot, but does anyone have a simple solution that worked in this situation? My Cricut Imagine powers up, but all of a sudden, it doesn't make the whirring noises that it should at start-up, and it won't go past the welcome screen (where it says "Cricut Imagine: Print. Cut. Imagine.").

Hallmark Scrapbook usually has good prices. I'm not sure how their shipping charges are, but I bought my Cricut Expression from them years ago with free shipping.

I read through 20 plus pages of this thread and still haven't found the answer to my question. (probably on the pages I didn't read lol) I have the I have the original cricut machine. Small, 6 inch by 12 inch cutting area, called the baby baby bug at one time. I am wondering if the all the cartridges that have been released for the imagine, Cricut Expression 1 and 2 and the others will work with my baby bug as long as I have the universal overlay? I use mine mainly for cutting titles out and have never been able to justify going to the bigger machines because of that but I love some of the recent carts.

I believe all the cartridges will work on it, except for the ones for the Imagine. I'm not sure how the universal overlay works with the older cartridges, as they have their own overlay. I hope that helps!

The Imagine carts will ONLY work in the Imagine. The universal overlay has nothing to do with the capabilities/programming of the machine you use. Hope this helps you.

I called Cricut about my Design Studio issue with my Create machine. They recommended using Craft Room. Which I finally got to accept my machine. But it cuts SOOOOO slowly. To cut a basic circle, it takes 15 minutes. No lie. I have been told that it might be an issue with my laptop (Windows 7), but when I cut to my Silhouette, it works just fine.

So you think my Cricut cable could be bad?

I have a Cricut Expression but haven't used it much since I got it. My teen daughter helped me re-learn some of it last night. It was fun.
I find it harder to use creatively as I have to stop and look through each cartridge book to see what I have to decide what to make. Is there a way to print out minis of the contents so I can put them into a binder?

Also, I heard someone say the online program is no longer available. I am not sure what it was called (Design Studio?) and how to access it if it still works.

I have a Brother ScanNCut now and find it much easier to use, but still want to make use of my few cartridges I have and my Cricut, if I can.

I decided to try Cricut Craftroom one more time and this time I used the Cricut cable again but plugged it into a different USB port on the laptop. SCORE!!!! It works. I was shocked and delighted.

Just wanted to update.

Thanks.

Cool Question on Cricut Craft Room and the new Yosemite

Hi All! I just want to tell you that I am a little perturbed with ProvoCraft regarding Cricut Craft Room and the new (as of Sept., 2014) Apple operating system, Yosemite. They told me that they were still working on making them compatible, but it hasn't happened yet. I have an Expression and all my carts. are digital so I cannot do a thing. Their response was I will just have to wait. Huh?

My question for you is: Has anyone updated the firmware for CCR that is using the new Yosemite (10.10.3)? What does anyone know about this dilemma?

I guess I can get the old computer out and hook it up (space is an issue, but I will do this, if this is the only thing I can do).

ProvoCraft was very nice when they answered me, but could not solve my problem. Can you help me?

I just bought my first and last Cricut Mystery Box. I know, it is a "Mystery" as to which carts you get, but I decided to give it a tray. Crafts by Two have videos on their monthly mystery box, and I was excited to see they received 3 carts I would have loved to have... so I ordered, thinking I'd get at least 2 of those 3. No such luck. I was given Victorian Romance, The 1st Few Years and Ole. I know without a doubt Victorian Romance will NOT cut good since it has way too many intricate cuts. I have changed the blades in my Expression, E2 Special edition and the baby bug... they all still cut the same (not clear concise cuts on detailed images). The 1st Few Years has scrapbook pages, which again, I will not use since I only do cards... Ole has a few cuts I might make do. I plan on taking the other 2 to the local craft store to see if she will buy them from me. The other items in the box matched Crafts by Two with the 5 sheets of 12 x 12 Washi paper, 6 sheets 12x12 foam Explore papers and USB cable. To me, not worth the total of $40.55 ($29.99 plus $10.56 in shipping even though I used the shipping code). But, I wanted to see what it was all about - not being sure if they will stop the Mystery Boxes since the Cricut web site is now closed, I wanted to at least buy one Mystery Box. Good Luck if you order one !

The Cricut.com message boards have closed. They're blaming it on the spam (and there was a ton of it), but it had been obvious for the past year or two that Provo Craft wasn't interested in maintaining the boards.

Does anyone have suggestions for other Cricut message boards? I know we've got this thread, but it was handy to pop into the Cricut MB to get nearly immediate, up-to-date info and advice.

Thanks!

Here's the announcement:

posted to the Cricut Chat forum on June 3, 2015

Hi, Cricut friends! We are sorry to announce that the public Cricut forums will be shutting down on June 17, 2015.

We have experienced a large number of spam posts in the last few months. These posts are causing many issues on Cricut.com. As a small team, we have spent a large amount of time maintaining message boards. We would like to concentrate those resources on improving Design SpaceŽ, Cricut Craft RoomŽ, and other improvements you have asked for. Shutting the message boards down will allow us to provide the best experience for all our Cricut family.

We understand that these message boards are a place where you have made friends and held conversations. However, when we created the message boards, we didn’t have social media platforms like Facebook. These social media are also places where Cricut fans make friends and talk about Cricut machines, projects, and life in general. Since they aren’t cluttered with spam, you’ll find them a better place to carry on your relationships with your Cricut friends.

We’ve chosen the June 17 date to give you time to identify other groups where you can continue to have those exchanges. Please keep sharing projects and conversations on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. If you have questions about products or need to contact Customer Care, please visit www.cricut.com/support.

Sincerely yours,
The Cricut team

Didn't know about the groups. I will have to check it out.
Today with my cricut explore I decided to cut out a box from the Box it Up cartridge. But, I have no idea how to put it together. Anyone know where to find such information?

Hi!
Here is the link to the digital handbook

http://content.cricut.com/b/pdfs/res...ks/BoxItUp.pdf

Go to the Cricut website, in the search bar type in the name of the cartridge, and follow the links to the digital handbook.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I just wish it gave you some type of visual on how to put the box together. It shows you the pieces and the score lines, but not actually how to put the box together. Think I won't be using the cricut for boxes much.

Samantha

Cricut handbook language is like those how to put a bookshelf language. Takes a bit of practice, LOL!!!

2 of the side pieces were cut

1 box lid was cut

4 little rectangles were cut

The two side pieces, each get folded on the score lines, you have 2 sides and a tab. Glue the tab on piece one to the side on piece two that doesn't have a tab, lining up the straight top. Now glue the tab to the remaining side. Fold up the bottom, glue or tape.

The lid is folded along the score lines, the sides with the tabs are tucked and glued or taped down to make the lid.

The 4 little rectangles get glued behind the cutouts in the boxes.

Watch some videos on making boxes with or without the Cricut and this will make sense. The box it up cartridge makes very nice simple boxes so, once you've had fun with the cartridge you'll be able to tackle any boxes out there.

Enjoy

Thank you for the info. I have the E2 and noticed the last time I tried to update, it seemed to go too fast; and yes I have a MacBook Air! I must admit I haven't cut with it in a while, and last time I used it was with an older cartridge rather than with one of my newer ones or with the CCR. I hope I won't have any issues; and I'm glad now I didn't buy the Explore!!!

Default HELP!

I have the Cricut Explore and I set it up to cut something out of vinyl, and the cutting mechanism won't put the blade down. (Yes, I replaced the blade and it still won't work.)

I have the Cricut Expore, and today, I decided I needed a new cutting blade. I've had my computer connected original for over a year now. I still like it. My first Cricut was the Imagine. It was really cool, and I liked the print and cut features of the Imagine. I really like the Explore for the intricate cutting, but I could always learn more~

I hit the "like this post" button and met to hit the "quote" button. Anyway, this sounds like an issue I would call Cricut support and ask them about. If your setting is on vinyl and you replaced the blade there must be something else preventing the cut.

I love my Explore! I haven't used my Imagine in a long time and actually thought about selling it. I should probably try it out again as it sits behind me in my craft room.

DH bought me a Cricut Explorer last year for Christmas. Now what?!? LOL I downloaded the Design Space on both the home laptop and my iPad and bought a wireless adaptor...I also went through the set up steps and the sample card. But it seems like everytime I've found YouTube videos or projects I want to try, my screens aren't the same. It's so frustrating and has put me off using the machine. I just feel like I need a solid 2-3 hours (or more!) just to figure out how to use it (yeah, I don't have patience for that and I have an 'almost' 4-yr old at home)! I've read through some of this thread, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to get to using this machine? I always hear about all the great/cool stuff you can use it for, but I'm just not seeing it...

Default Cricut help

If you have a face book account there are a lot of Cricut groups on there. "Lets learn Cricut Explore' and "Cricut Newbies and Pros" are two of them. The people are great with helping. Also, on You Tube look up Troytube and Melody Lane, they both have great learning videos. Also, of course Cricut has their own videos.

Maybe someone here can help me, please.
I have emailed cricut still waiting for response.

I am so disappointed... I bought "edge to edge" not thinking anything
about it, thinking I could use it with my gypsy. Apparently you can't, so
then I tried on expressions machine, but there's no overlay.
Do I have to buy a special overlay to use it??
I love my cricut!!! But because I use an android it makes it difficult.

Thanks for listening and your help. Just a little frustrated.

Just received an email from cricut. They are good about getting back to you.
I do need an overlay.
They are going to send me one. If I would have known that
I would have bought one. You know how you get so excited
when you get a new toy/tool and just want to go home and play
with it, well... that's ME. Next time I will do my homework.

Hi!
I would recommend watching You Tube Videos from Cricut, they're called "Official Cricut" and they are very short.

I think the best way to learn is to simply start. Open Design Space. Push each button, icon, tab etc. See what it does. Add an image, play with sizing and coloring. I played with Design Space for 3 months before I even got my Explore. Practice saving a file, deleting a file, slicing, welding, etc.

Then start cutting things out. Remember all those cliches, Rome wasn't built in a day, Michelangelo's first piece of art wasn't the Sistine Chapel, etc.

Watch You Tube videos in the last 3 months, there has been some major updates so screens and features are different than a year ago.

Watch videos from a year ago to recreate their projects, I do that all the time.

Practice and patience. You'll get this machine and have so much fun.

You'll get used to Design Space and the Explore. Start with simple projects. Then branch out to intricate designs.

Start by making things for your child. Shirts, window cling, paper dolls or animals, stickers, stuff like that. It doesn't have to be perfect enough to "sell", just make stuff and learn.

When my kids were little they're got the "not good enough" stuff and had so much fun. Images that didn't stamp well, they didn't care, they colored them like coloring pages. Die cuts that weren't exactly the right size or didn't cut just right became collage art pieces for Grandma.

Enjoy

As one member suggested, YouTube is a good choice with lots of
free tutorials (especially the Official Cricut videos), but I also take on-line classes from

Cara Miller email address: cara@caramiller.com -
tel: 413-822-7670

and she's really excellent... the classes are $10.00 to $15.00 each and she offers several 'bundles'. I am currently learning Inkscape.

Good luck and don't get disillusion, the Cricut Explore is a lot of fun!
