I see it at Michael's and Joann's. Do you have those near you. I look in the glue section, not the craft section.

Hi ladies,
Yesterday I was cutting out candy canes out of the Christmas Cheer cartridge. It didn't cut them completely out - left little snippets of paper here and there. They are fixable. Anyway, I checked my cutting depth and it is set on max. I also have the speed on max. I was using SU Real Red card stock. So does anyone know what is wrong?

2CuteCats.....I gave up trying to cut any Stampin' Up cardstock and trashed it all. I've never gotten a clean smooth cut no matter what my settings were.

I would not cut on Max though. I almost exclusively cut heavy cardstock but keep the Speed on 3. I think I get a smoother/cleaner cut with that speed.

Nope, that can't be it because I have only had the machine a month. I am going to try it at a slower speed and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for responding though!

I was using Real Red recently and had the same problem. I did adjust the speed but unfortunately that didn't help. I'm guessing it is my blade. I couldn't see throwing out a piece of 6x12 piece of cardstock with 17+ cardinals semi cut out, so I used my trusty old scissors to finish them. I will never do that again. My dh even said "wouldn't be easier just to cut another sheet out." Yes it would but I don't want to waste it... lol...

So anyway, I hope you figured it out... Good luck.

Actually, with heavier cardstock, you need to use a faster speed (unless you have a very intricate shape). Sometimes you need to use Multicut for really heavy cardstock like SU. For these, I usually set everything on 4 or 5 and cut twice. Works like a charm.

Every machine is calibrated differently, you have to see and experiment what works for you and your machine. I know what works for me and my machine. I also know what doesn't work!

It's only paper, if I have an expensive die cut machine and the design didn't cut all the way through, be darned if I would then cut with scissors! I'll up the pressure and cut another sheet of paper. It's only paper and not worth the time and effort of hand cutting.

I am probably not supposed to do this here, but you are the people that might be interested. I bought on ebay two, yes two, Paper Lace cartidges Saturday night by mistake. I thought I had been outbid on one. Really makes me mad every time I think about it! Anyway, if anyone would be interested in buying it, I would appreciate it, I paid $28 and no shipping. PM me if you are interested.

Believe me I wouldn't have cut them all out with scissors if I wasn't annoyed with my design studio. It seems like it takes forever to do anything. Does DS run slow for anybody else??? Plus I didn't save my project, silly me...

Good thing my blade worked from the begining or I never would have figured it out. I had a slice and after changing the blade I neve could get it to work right again, I finally gave it away.

Just another comment to add to the confusion! LOL!! I do agree that machines are different and cuts are different and size does matter! LOL! Smaller cuts and more detailed cuts I slow down the speed no matter the material.

I use just about only SU cardstock with no problems! I have mine set to speed: high, pressure: max, and blade at 6.

Make sure your blade housing in on good with the arrow facing you and tight. You should NOT have to use multi-cut cutting only cardstock.

I haven't used DS in a while but if I remember correctly you can't change the speed when using it. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

The Multi-cut feature makes a big difference with heavier cardstock. Although some people will disagree, I find that the cuts are better if they are done twice at lower settings than once with higher ones. This is also how I cut acetate and thin chipboard without using the Deep Cut blade. This is what works for me, and I hope it helps you too. Have fun with your Cricut.

Default Issue cutting 8 1/2 x 11 paper

Hello,

I recently purchased the MTC software and have enjoyed having an expanded use of the Cricut. I thought it would be an easy way to cut 8 1/2 x 11 paper in A2 Cards. I set up a rectangle in MTC that is sized at 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 but when I try to get it to ct the paper in half it leaves about a quarter inch border on the page, so it is not cutting in half. I set the paper size correctly to 8 1/2 x 11 and have tried several times, but still can not see what I am doing that would create that border. Please help!

Thank you,
Megan

where are you placing the paper on the mat? There is a little edge that it won't cut past. That might be it. I would try lining it up at the 1"x1" mark and placing your image in MTC there also.

Great minds think alike!

I am going into Cricut withdrawals. My DD's Nutcracker rehearsals are cutting into my crafting time too much! I'll be glad when it is over this weekend.

I really don't know all the ins and outs of the Cricut or for that matter MTC but, sometimes when I get to much in a hurry or trying a new cut file I forget to check the mat size.Even if I haven't changed it,some how it gets changed! LOL

Thank you for the responses. I've tried lining it up differently and still not working. I'll go back to my paper trimmer. However, I think this has become an excercise in learning how to line up the paper and image in MTC to get it to cut properly. Given the number of tries, I think the Cricut is winning.

Take Care,
Megan

Maybe I'm just cheap or maybe I hate to admit defeat, but if I'd been in your place, I'd have cut them out by hand too.

I'm so glad it worked for you, Roxane. Enjoy your Cricut. It's a really fun machine once you get the "quirks" of your particular machine figured out.

Thank you! I bought 2 carts on ebay last night with my Christmas bonus. I bought In My Kitchen because it went cheap and I always thought it was so cute! Then I bought PIturesque. That one has some really neat stuff on it. Can't wait to use them plus my Paper Lace that I just got yesterday!

The white on the candy cane was a solid outline and that came out okay. I used Pacific Point from WalMart for the that. The canes cut out of Real Red were more intricate and that may be why I was having trouble.

I have a question. I am trying to use the cards feature on the Sweet Treats cartridge. I don't know what in the world I am doing wrong.

It says that the picture in the upper right corner is used with the "shift" feature on. So I press "present 3", "cards", "shift" and it still doesn't cut the one I want. I still get a standard square card. I wanted a round card and that's what was pictured up in the right hand corner. Am I wrong? I thought that's what you were supposed to use.

If you're using the Shift key, you need to press that first, before you press any other keys. HTH.

Ok, I had the wrong page, but it's the same idea.

There's one on that cartridge that has a circle, think it's on a flower one or something. Anyhow here's what I did. I tried everything. I even did try the presents-3 page to get just that square instead of the present card. I pressed card first, then the presents-3 key and then shift.

So I'm supposed to press shift first? I think I tried that but maybe not. So I press shift first then card then presents-3? Or any of the others? I'm trying to get the shape that's in orange on any of the cards in that cart. I'll try it again tomorrow by pushing shift first.

My sweet children (30, 33, and 35!) gave me a Cricut Expression for an early bday gift yesterday! I just went through the tutorial CD and the cartridges that came with mine aren't the ones on the CD. Does each color come with something different? Mine came with a Classic Font one and I think Playtime? It has lots of kid stuff. It was all sealed up so I don't think someone substituted anything. I had a terrible time getting it to cut through cardstock. I finally rotated the number on the blade to a 4--it was set on 1 and that barely penetrated the paper. I know I have a lot to learn and am excited about using it. Any suggestions for getting new cartridges and a good place for discounts? Thanks so much!

Congratulations and have fun! Do you have a Michael's near you? Sometimes they have carts discounted way down. Also go to the cricut site and decide what you want most on a cart, what will you do most of in way of projects, and then search for the cart with the most of what you want.

Check out this site. It's great to help you find the cart with specific images. Hope this helps.

Yes, as long as you press Shift first, you can press any of the other keys in any order (either before or after you select your image). The only exception to this is if you're using the Mix 'n Match feature. I don't want to confuse you, so I won't explain that now. Hope that helps.
