WARNING: Do not play with the trial version unless you already plan to get it. IT IS ADDICTING!! LOVE the melding feature, the slant feature, the stretching, the layering of objects. I cut out a couple of things to try it. LOVE IT!!
They are going to make a killing on people trying this out and then "HAVE" to have it NOW!! Taxes could not be here fast enough for me.
Can you tell I LOVE IT already and only have the trial version?

That was so weird! I was responding to your post and you edited so it came up different. My mind can't take that!!!
I was about to say I thought the 17th. Does it mean to us on the 17th or leaving her hands on the 17th? I can't wait either!!! Trial version is great. I haven't cut anything yet just playing around a little.
Sorry! I posted, then it hit me, maybe I should check. So I did and her website said the 17th. I think that is the date that Kim thinks the software will be to her. I think the Paperdolls date was the 1st if that gives you any gauge. Yea! I am so excited I can't handle it.
I got mine at Creativexpress.com for 320.00 plus shipping but it was not much plus got to build a bundle at really discounted prices. Plus, they have great customer service. A friend of mine got hers at customcrops.com with your choice of third cart for a good price, but I can't remember what.
Good luck! I have only had mine for about a week and I love it!
I love the new software.... wow .. I was skeptible going in.. but that free trial has me droolin! Please post your link to your projects you create with this.. I would love to see what everyone is doing!
make me buy this software! hehehe (like you would have to twist my arm...)
Oh and glad to see we can upgrade the firmware on all the machines.. that is VERY cool to keep adding features as we go... I would *almost* buy the software for that alone!
I have a few questions about the Design Studio. The answers are probably obvious, but I can't figure it out.
I was playing with the trial version. I typed my daughter's name w/Plantin and then put a frame around her name w/AE.
When I have the cricut cut it (don't have a cable so can't try it), do I have to switch cartridges? Does the paper have to be reloaded? Not sure how that whole thing works w/using multiple cartridges.
Will the name/frame arrangement come out as it looks on the screen?
I just thought of something while playing with the trial program. If you had the full version, you could stretch the scalloped circle to make an oval without the hole you get on other carts.
Great idea!

As far as I know, acmoore.com (or the store) has an expression bundle for $379. It comes with Plantin Schoolbook, Accent Essentials, Paper Pups, Stretch Your Imagination and cricut pens. I'm not sure what shipping is from them.
hallmarkscrapbook.com has it for $299 w/free shipping. It comes with the 2 standard cartridges: Plantin Schoolbook and Accent Essentials. I ordered mine from them and they have wonderful service and fast shipping. I had mine in less than a week.
I don't know what the prices are at other retailers.

Yes, it will cut like it looks on the screen. Yes, you will have to switch cartridges. The software will tell you when you need to make the switch. No the paper doesn't have to be reloaded because you will switch them without turning off the machine. Even though Provo Craft has said in the past to not "hot swap" the cartridges, they have said that it is okay to do with the software.

So I tried the Design Studio free trial. Please tell me why I need to get the full version? What can I do with this that I can not do just with the cutter. I tried the welding with my name and it did not weld the first and last letters. Only the letters in between. I used the George font to do that. Why did it not weld them all? What do you love about the full version?
They are on Ebay right now.......I know how a lot of stampers hate that place, but, if you can get it for less, why not? It's not like it's a Stampin' Up! demo thing!!!

I played with it tonight and I have a cord
The soft ware will tell you when to switch carts

I think it is because if you get it off ebay from someone that is not an authorized dealer the bug is not covered under warranty. I wouldn't want to risk it.
Okay I played with the trial software tonight...Now it only letts you use the cart for the machine you have so thus I used George.
The hardest part was figuring out how you want to load the letters and things so you can weld them ,but alos how not to link them together alot of playing and deleteing everything i did went into this but this is eventually what I designed and cut.

Each letter takes up an amount of space on the screen. The computer simply takes the margin on each side of the letter and cuts it out. Due to the shape of some of the letters the margin on the sides do not allow the two to touch when the margin is cut away. Make sence so far....sorry if it was confusing. Anyways, if you look at your string of letters, when they are all selected one of them will be dashes and not a solid line. Double click on the letter to the right of the gap. It should now be dashed lines. Just above the welding button there is a nudge arrow. Nudge the letter to the left until the gap is gone. You can actually do this with all the letters if you want them to overlap further.
I hope that helped.
You can also attached characters from different carts in the same way. Place them touching one another. Hit the melding box and click on apply. Check that they are medled my clicking on the preview button on the left side of the screen. If any characters appear in red they are a separate cut and not melded. Go back and click on the red items, click meld, apply and check the preview again. Clear as mud.
I use heart and stretched it, then stretched the letters longer and the flower I skewed and cut. I learned that if you load a characture withthe line thingy there it will join the letters as one word to weld the word has to be in one box. TO get the boxes to open and layer you have to click in the upper left corner of the individual box which will be a faded grey line around each. each sid eand corner has a separate purpose to skew strech squish or lengthen the letters. The order you place the vboxes is not neccesasrily the order they cut and it does take longer to cut. You can put objects closer together also and change to varying sizes so you are not limited to the cut size options on the dial you can cut it how ever you layer it and put it ont he screen
I t takes a little bit of fusing to figure it out but I can tell I am going to love this it is going to open up the use of the cricut alot...I cant wait until I get my full version.
I downloaded the software (forEVER on dialup!) and when I went to install it it said I needed to upgrade the microsoft .net framework or something like that. I clicked to upgrade and it failed and now the software won't even open. My computer is less than a year old-I can't believe it doesn't have whatever is necessary to run the program. I wonder if that upgrade will be on the cd if I was to buy the software.

DO you actually have the software already because I thought with the trial you can only use the cart that came with you machine
For some reason it said something like "file size not specified-upgrade failed" and it quit. It did finish installing the software but won't open. I checked the microsoft site and that 2.0 is a 2 hours download for me so I'm not messing with it tonight. I don't leave my computer on all night and definitely not connected to the internet all night and I'm not staying up another 2 hours either. BUMMER!

thats too bad do you want me to check the exact version # for you or does it tell you?

Many on ebay are authorized dealers. I just bought two cartridges on ebay and she is an authorized dealer. Also, customcrops.com also sells on ebay. The key is to ask first.
I was just lucky I already had a cable that would work so I could use it...Because I definately wouldnt have bought one because I have the software with the cable included coming.

What kind of internet connection do you have? I put it on my computer earlier today and it took only a couple of minutes and it is now downloading on my laptop. Maybe you were trying during a primetime or something.

Does just a regular usb cord work? I know I have a few of those.
Hi Kathy! You are up late. What time is where you are? It is almost midnight here so I should talk!!!
Its almost 1 I was waiting foe my DD to get home from Babysitting and she got in at 12:30 I was talking to Molly on the other thread and Gale off an on here I was jsut going to shut down and go to bed.
Does just a regular usb cord work? I know I have a few of those.
I have one that has various tips on it I bought it when My DD lost hers for her digital camera but The I had to put the part on that works onthe back of the cricut its like a printer port. SO if you have a cable that is USB with your printer and has the same shaped plug on the back you could use it

I'm on dialup. It takes about 10 minutes per mb and the download from the MS site says it is 22.x mb so it would be over 2 hours. The worst part is that it bogs up my connection so I can't do any surfing while it's downloading. So I have to do it during a time when I'm able to be online, yet I'm not trying to look at any websites.

When I try to open the software it shows the exact version but the only version I could find at the MS site was 2.0. The version it gives on the error message is 2.0.50727 so I have no idea if the one on the MS site will even work.
btw who is my "application publisher"?? The error message says "Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET framework".

after you load the 3.0 version if you need the other part you can get an update at Microsofts web site if you need it that is where the comupter is looking for it I'm sure
What type of computer do you have? Because it is not a Mac Software? On line for the full version it says XP or Vista
