I found a blog yesterday about it. You will be able to purchase all the parts needed to covert you current E into a Cake from cricut.com THis what I paln to do. I will see how much cheaper it will be to do it that way. I may end up buying the new one.

If I can find the blog again I will post the url here.

I was told that they will have sheets of gum paste available to use in the machine. It will come in several colors.

I did a video today featuring the cake. The inside of the Cricut Cake is made out of Stainless steel and special plastics that are all food safe and easy to clean. The blade is also stainless steel. And they have matched the red to Kitchenaid. They will be selling sheets of the gum paste in various colours!

I'm debating on getting one......That's still a lot of money, but something I think I would enjoy.
I think I would want a seperate machine for food and such.....I have no idea how much lead maybe in the E....but that's just the way I think. It maybe perfectly fine too.

I showed it and told hubby it would be a great Christmas present this year, got the E this past summer for my bday, so I think Christmas would be a great time to get this, and like you Savannah, I don't think I would want to combine them, but who knows price may dictate I do it anyway, and here's hoping the gypsy hooks up to it also!!!

He's still trying to figure out how it would save space though (according to the video) Told him I would find a home for it without issue!

It's getting a lot of talk on the Cricut message boards. It seems to be one of those "love it" or "not the least bit interested" things.

Bakers have been using Cricuts to cut fondant/gumpaste for years. Provo Craft just decided to make more money off it by putting out a dedicated machine with washable parts.

I don't believe anyone uses the same Cricut to papercraft and to bake. I think those who have been using it to cut fondant have been using a Cricut they've dedicated to baking. For one thing, you have to cut off the rollers so they don't put impressions in your fondant. (You can slide them a bit to the sides, but they don't go all the way and the DVD & videos I've watched show the rollers cut off.) For another thing, you risk getting oily residue on your nice paper if you go back and forth between paper and fondant. Then there's the hygiene issue of going back & forth between edible and non-edible products.

One cool thing about the cake system is that you can use the same cartridge (not machine) to make the party invitations, thank yous, & decorations and to decorate the cake.

I already have the E and love it. I make all the invites, favors, thank yous and such. That is the reason I am getting the Cake now I can make cakes to match. With 3 Granddaughters I can make their parties more personalized.

The Cake is a sealed system and is made with food grade materials.

Hope it's better at cutting the gum paste than Cricut E was at cutting through SU cs. I had a terrible time with mine and ended up selling it instead. Tried new blades, setting the blades higher, lower, etc. I just never got good quality cuts with it unless I was using thin DP instead of heavy 80 lb cs. :(

Craft Critique emailed a review on this today! I'm attaching the link, which I really hope works b/c if you go to the site, the posting for today is post-it paper, not the Cake.

http://www.craftcritique.com/2010/01...ft+Critique%29

I don't know if this will help anybody learn anything about it, but I think it's a quick synopsis of what it is/does.

I saw this one in an email I got from Cricut. I LOVE the red color. Is it the same as the expression? I have the original Cricut but planning on getting the Expression soon. I would love this red color.

This is the same as the E but it is for food. All the moving parts and exposed thins are made of food safe product. I don't see th price coming down from the $3??.?? any time soon. If you are wanting an E I would just buy the regular one.
It is a very different price point. Try www.customcrops.com
I got mine from them and 2 cartridges for 250.00, that was 2 years ago. The price I am sure has come down.

Just found this thread and just wanted to share my opinion. I made the make-n-take and saw a demonstration of it at CHA and fell in LOVE with it right away - I even started saving up for it already.

My sister and I have been throwing themed birthday parties for as long as I can remember and the fact that the cartridges will work on both machines, for me, is the biggest seller. Sure is an initial hit to the wallet since it will mean another machine, but in the long run, I think it will pay for itself.

I already have friends signing up for me to make their cakes and cupcakes for their kids parties. They hire me to make their invites and favors and love the idea of having a matching cake and/or cupcakes to go with it.

I posted a photo of the make-n-take on my blog and some close up photos of the machine in action if you care to check it out HERE.

Thanks for all the info, my mom and I were trying to come up with some ideas for our craft shows and so I went to the Cricut website today and just saw this. Totally neat! We do cakes too...not sure I can convince the hubby though...
