Classic is dye based ink and craft is pigment based ink. Craft is good for embossing and scrapbooking. Personally I LOVED my classic ink until I got my craft ink spots! Now I'm in the process of purchasing all the craft pads (full size!)
Classic ink, dye ink, is thin-bodied and very quick to dry. It's not as light-fast as Craft, or pigment, ink though. This is why SU recommends the Craft inks for scrapbooking...they aren't as likely to fade away over time.
There are lots of reasons to get both, lol. If you're just starting out in stamping, I'd go for the Classic unless you are strictly scrapbooking. They are easier to work with.
I have some of both. Classic dries quicker, so if you are only card making, that might be the one for you. With craft ink, I do clothes stamping and scrapbooking, too.
I have both.... I have all the full size classic inks and all the craft ink spots. Craft ink works much better for solid images, while classic is much better for fine lines. Some people will say craft works better with acrylics also... but I've never had a problem using clear stamps with classic ink.
I mostly use classic ink, but craft has its uses. If you want to stamp a color onto another color (like navy onto red), then craft works best. Also, with craft ink, you can emboss. So if you have a set of craft stamping spots and clear EP, it's like having 12 colors of embossing powder!

Well said! I'd never really thought of it that way, but that is very true.
Overall, if I had to choose between the two, I'd go for craft, because I've had "juicy-ness" issues with the classic pads in the past.
I have the full size Classic Pads and all the refills (very important to have refills) and all of the Craft Ink Spots. My project this year is to stock up on the craft refills.
I recently heard that you can add color to clear embossing powder by tapping on versa mark then tapping on classic and stamping the image then applying your clear powder to get a custom color. Is that not right?? I am getting rid of my soft subtles craft ink, looking to trade. I prefer classic. But, I have only been stamping for a few years.
