They are the same ink in both. Sketch comes in a different shape with more ink in it, but both have the same Nibs. Sketch comes in all the colors, and Ciao comes in a subset of those. Sketch has the color number on the cap. That helps depending on how you store them. I have labeled all my Ciao caps though.

My preference is Sketch, mainly because they don't roll and I can fit them easily in my airbrush (although I have been known to use the airbrush with a Ciao - awkwardly). I use both to color and while coloring there is no preference. Again, my main thing is that they don't roll and I don't have to label the top of the cap.

I prefer the way the Sketch marker feels in my hand. The plus is that the Sketch markers comes in so many colors AND has more ink!

I prefer the sketch also because I love the shape and how natural it feels holding them, plus they come with the most colors!!!

I am happy with the Caio- they really don't roll - the caps have little nubs on them-and they prevent them from rolling on the table. there are a lot more colors in the sketch-- but I am totally happy with the choice of colors with caio-- and they are cheaper- less ink- but I have had mine about 6 months and even my most used colors are going strong. The name on the cap is more convenient with the sketch- but not a really big deal to me. You can't go wrong with either one!

I prefer the Sketch because they're so much more comfortable to hold, they have more color choices available, and contain more ink.

They color the same so one isn't better than the other, as they have the same ink. I have both and don't really have a preference, I buy all the colors I can in Ciao since they are so much cheaper and fill in with the sketch. Love them both.

I have the sketch, too. They also work with the air compressor. The ciaos will if you use something to lift them up, but the air grip is made for the sketch. I like the numbers on the ends of the caps on the sketch, too. With my storage, I can find the markers I need easier with the numbers being on the caps.

I agree with the other Michelle...it is smart to buy ciaos and then fill with sketch if you are on a budget!

I find there are colors I don't use very often so getting those in ciao is more economical...those would be the darker colors in each color family- u don't use as much ink with those. I would say get sketch for all your lighter colors, skin, and hair colors because you will use them up faster if you are coloring people images.

For the record-I have never had a ciao roll away and you can still use them with the airbrush by using some double sided foam tape to secure them. You can even put a label on the cap with the color name too. Unless you are OCD in which case get all sketch markers so they all look neat and organized!lol!

I have both and have no preference over which type is better. I actually do like colouring with the Ciaos better though as I like the circular shape in my hand better. I sort of find that I have better control with the smaller barrel in smaller spaces but that's probably bc I have stubby hands LOL!

If the colour I want is available in the Ciaos, then I buy them that way as I get almost two colours for the price of one. They are refillable anyways so the bigger marker doesn't matter to me.

I started off exclusively with Ciaos due to the cheaper cost but now I fill in my colours with the Sketches (if not available in Ciao) as there is a bit more variety in tones in each family.

Hi ladies,
I just realized last week that the Copics came in two types and was wondering the same question. One thing I found is the Ciao are 2.00 less. So is the amount of ink difference that big? 6.95 vs 4.99
Have you found that??

Thank You Derby Lea,
I am going to go to oozak.com to check them out that is a great price and thank you for
responding. SCS said I didn't ask a question did I not follow the rules for their forum?
I figured seeing I wrote in that forum the question /comment was responding to these comments. I will have to form a question next time. I love these sites.

Thank You again
Diana

To answer your question above, the price of a ciao marker is 66% of the price of a sketch marker and the amount of cc's of ink that a ciao marker holds is 66% of the amount of ink a sketch marker holds (2ccs of ink versus 3 cc's of ink). When you look at it that way you are paying for the amount of ink you want. If your budget is tight you can get ciao markers for your darker colors in each color family and then get sketch markers for the lighter colors to do your blending , and for hair and skin colors because you will use a lot more ink with those.

Thanks Chrissy! I am stuck in front of the computer all day so I figure I may as well share what I learned through trial and lots of error from a layman's perspective when I started out with copics.... I would love to get certified...just wating for them to come back to New Jersey. By the way, I luv your blog and your tutorials.

Hi Martha, if you do try Copics, I think you will love them. You can add lots more color options to your neopikos and triarts. You're cards and projects are already so beautiful, I love the way you use all that gorgeous trim. That mini from August 13th is fabulous!

I prefer the Original because of the small tip for coloring smaller stamps.

I started off buying the ciaos because of the price. I did buy a few sketch but don't find any benefit to having them. The only reason I got them was because the colours weren't available in the ciao markers. What I think I will do is buy empty barrels(or blender pens & empty them) & nibs for the ciao markers and use refills to make the ciao marker colours that aren't available for sale. I don't like having to have two different storage containers for my markers. This way I can have them all stored in the CTMH marker towers.

When I started out with Copic about two years ago the sketch were very expensive here in OZ I bought three to see what all the fuss was about. My husband then bought me 36 Ciao from USA for Christmas. Some where between there and my birthday Copic really caught on in OZ and prices became more realistic so I got another 36 to compliment the first 36 Ciao. I qualified as a Copic Designer in July and every now and again I buy a couple of sketch to fill in the gaps between the Ciao. The shape doesn't really matter to me it is what they do on paper. I love the way they merge and what you can do with them. I play with my pens every day, talk to them touch them and colour colour colour... I really quite like them.

AT a recent class on copic markers the teacher said the ciao markers were the better buy dollar wise for the amount of ink. I personally like the ciao markers as they fit in my hand better and i didn't mind spending one afternoon with my grandson marking them on the end with the color number. cheryl

I am not an expert, but I took a little class regarding Copics. The lids for the sketch are different from the ciao. The sketch does not have an inner ridge like the ciao and will not split the nibs if you happen to not place the lid on perfectly. The ciao has an inner ridge, so if you are not careful you can split the nib. Just a thought.

Default copics

yes that is true you can split the nib, but the cap on the ciao will stack on the other end of the marker whereas with the sketch it will not
